PAUL & MAGGIE MURDAUGH: South Carolina vs. Alex Murdaugh for Double Homicide of wife & son *GUILTY*

This case is being kept pretty quiet, no major details released to speak of (other than it does say there were two different guns used), but no info regarding who found them, who called 911, very little else.

Of interest, the grandfather died just a few days after these murders and it sounds as if he was ill from various articles so probably not unexpected. I think of the typical motives, did grandpa have a big estate? How big in the overall family of grandpa's on down? They sound like a pretty well known family and a powerful one in their state, more on that in the article.

I didn't say the juror shouldnt have been dismissed This was me giving an opinion and asking a question on possible grounds for appeal because the dismissed juror was selected by the defence and allegedly thought AM was innocent.

"Anyone think there may be grounds for appeal? The dismissed juror possibly could be grounds. Plus the fact he was not allowed to take the fifth on selected questions. Maybe also too much emphasis on his alleged financial crimes which had not been tried yet."

No, it would not be grounds for appeal. They have solid proof she broke the rules of being a juror.

His not being allowed to plead the fifth was explained AND he didn't have to testify. Then after deciding to testify, he lied and lied and lied and lies that were easily proven to be lies. What a dumbazz. He probably would have had more on his side if he had not decided to go up. This is 100% on AM, not the court or any of their rules.

I won by default so all rules of my winning must be obeyed.
And here's your prize

They treated him with kid gloves because of his status that he demanded and flaunted. He flashed his badge that he shouldn't have had, etc. They did collect brain matter. What was left could not be collected and had to be cleaned up, which would be the owners responsibility like any other case. This is all defense theatrics.
They should have done a proper and complete job and closed off the whole property. This was a violent double murder. Skull fragments and brain matter were left behind. They did not use non absorbent tarps or tents to cover the bodies or crime scene so the rain and mud destroyed evidence. This was a murder scene and they did not preserve it IMO. I have seen crime scene tents where they are very carefully sifting thru the evidence. This was a shoddy job by LE and was not anything to do with who they were IMO.

Did they replace her with a juror chosen by the defence?

Did you all see when AM left the court, the camera clearly showed all the jurors and that was a mistake? The judge mentioned it and said to the jurors they can speak if they wish but if they want anonymity and they get contacted because of this mistake, they should contact him. The judge also mentioned that some crime scene photos have made it onto the net, apparently leaked from the courtroom. Not sure whether it was media or general public or the legal teams that have done it.

I agree about he didn't have to testify but there is still the admittance of all the financial cr@p which they deliberated on initially as to whether they would allow it. Regarding the fifth, I have never heard this before that pleading the fifth has to be regarding the whole of the testimony. That would be the same as just not giving evidence at all IMO.

(Apparently witnesses can pick and choose what answers they can take the fifth on but not the accused )

Popping in to offer verdict and sentencing congrats to the Murdaugh case watchers. I haven't engaged in this case, but it's always good to see news of justice done. I understand there may be more justice to eek out related to this case ... hope it arrives swiftly. (y)

He is going to appeal all the way up to the Supreme Court apparently.

His attorneys wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't. I don't know of any serious convictions that don't try. None. Totally no unexpected. I just want to know how these attorneys think they are going to get paid, especially since his cases are far from over.

I thought he already admitted the financial crimes, so what cases are you talking about?

Yes! An Appellate Court can look into the amount of 404b evidence that was allowed in by Judge Newman.

(2) Character of Victim. Evidence of a pertinent trait of character of the victim of the crime offered by an accused, or by the prosecution to rebut the same, or evidence of a character trait of peacefulness of the victim offered by the prosecution in a homicide case to rebut evidence that the victim was the first aggressor;
(3) Character of Witness. Evidence of the character of a witness, as provided in Rules 607, 608, and 609.
(b) Other Crimes, Wrongs, or Acts. Evidence of other crimes, wrongs, or acts is not admissible to prove the character of a person in order to show action in conformity therewith. It may, however, be admissible to show motive, identity, the existence of a common scheme or plan, the absence of mistake or accident, or intent.

And, SLED misleading the Grand Jury regarding blood spatter evidence from Alex's shirt which turned out to only include 3 alleles (I think that's what was in the indictment; I'll correct my post after reviewing that July 2022 document again).

*Correction the Grand Jury met 11-19-2021 for the financial crimes; still looking for the July 2022 murder indictment)

Oh yes, that was a HUGE mistake that Judge Newman addressed on the record as well as one external photo of one of the bodies during the autopsy that I did see but unless you paused the live feed and enhanced the image you wouldn't really know what you were looking at, imo. The point is though, those records are under seal and is being investigated. Neither of these issues fall under the scope of appeal though.
