PAUL & MAGGIE MURDAUGH: South Carolina vs. Alex Murdaugh for Double Homicide of wife & son *GUILTY*

This case is being kept pretty quiet, no major details released to speak of (other than it does say there were two different guns used), but no info regarding who found them, who called 911, very little else.

Of interest, the grandfather died just a few days after these murders and it sounds as if he was ill from various articles so probably not unexpected. I think of the typical motives, did grandpa have a big estate? How big in the overall family of grandpa's on down? They sound like a pretty well known family and a powerful one in their state, more on that in the article.

A circuit judge on Friday ruled that Alex Murdaugh and convenience store operator Greg Parker will be tried together in the upcoming civil trial involving the 2019 drowning death of Mallory Beach. Although Parker attorney Pankaj “P.K.” Shere argued that the “media hurricane” surrounding Murdaugh — the convicted killer of his wife and son — would damage Parker if the two were tried together, Judge Daniel Hall ruled that the trial will start with both as co-defendants on Aug. 14. Hall also denied Shere’s motion to transfer the trial out of both Hampton County and the 14th Judicial Circuit in southeastern South Carolina. “The court has full confidence it will find competent jurors in Hampton County,” Hall ruled.

Hmmm. Not so sure of this but then what do I know...

Murdaugh Murders: High-Profile ‘Boat Crash’ Case Settles

ess than a month before it was scheduled to gavel to trial, the highest-profile civil case tied to the ‘Murdaugh Murders’ crime and corruption saga has reportedly settled out of court.

According to multiple sources familiar with the situation, a “global settlement” – meaning a settlement between plaintiffs and all remaining defendants – was reached over the weekend in the wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of the late Mallory Beach, a Hampton, South Carolina teen who died in a tragic boat crash more than four years ago. Unconfirmed reports suggest a settlement north of $15 million — however no terms have been released.

Remaining defendants in the case included convicted killer Alex Murdaugh – who owned the boat that crashed – and wealthy Savannah convenience store magnate Greg Parker and his company, the Parker’s Kitchen chain of gas stations. A Parker’s Kitchen store in Ridgeland, S.C. sold alcohol to Murdaugh’s son, the alleged driver of the boat.

Unless this is an insurance payment, they'll have to get in line for payment from Alex, good luck with that.

My guess is once Parkers was kept in the case with Alex per the recent decision by the judge, they all came together and contributed to an offer and a settlement and probably mostly the insurance companies and then Parker's maybe contributing to some of it additionally. Or not and just insurance. Whether Alex had the right company or not, if they were still named (were they?), they'd buy out to a point. Guessing Parker's insurance paid the bulk but who knows. Both companies (if Alex's not released, honestly can't recall) would definitely want out at this point and with the Murdaugh saga.

I now in the Satterfield matter, the insurance was all wonky, work comp versus was she working or visiting and he played it as as homeowners liability and played the family. Can't recall on the boat case but it isn't the same. He didn't have the same game he played on the boat victims like he did on the Satterfields. He tired but this is the first case that was legitimately them against the Murdaughs without Alex providing their attorney and getting them to do as he suggested. If my recall is right. It is also why this case, the boat case,s concerned Alex and could wipe them out and bring him down. And probably in his mind all because of Paul.

IMO, they'll never see a dime then.
Well then any settlement on the case would likely be null and void. Been through this before. The claim is dismissed in return for payment and there'd be no dismissal or it would go right back to court if no payment and they don't do their part. Parker's probably agreed to pay the bulk of it or their ins. Don't ask me why or why they'd release Alex too then but it is coming from somewhere. Or both company's paying half, etc.

Lafitte due for sentencing 1st Aug. Possibly 11 years?

"White collar" crime never gets what it should imo. 11 years isn't much for what he did.

So Lori gets sentenced is it Monday? And Lafitte on Tuesday? PUT "EM AWAY!

You know, this guy missed his calling. He puts such a good show together. He could do documentaries for any big channel but then why? TV and channels are losing viewers every single day.

I watched him from the start and now he has a couple of hundred thousand subscribers and he doesn't put things out regularly or even often.

I watched as much of this trial as I could and still he has testimony clips I hadn't seen, etc.

Well worth watching imo. And he is moving onto another case which he talks of at the end.

This isni't his real job but boy it should be. He's very talented.

I have NO time to keep up on the cases I try to stay up on but I have to watch his next set and find time. The lead in to it at the end of this on ensures one will want to.

Again, very talented.

criminal fiduciary actions that lined his own pockets. I don't know Gma. I tend to lean heavily toward "hang 'em high"

must repay $3.55M, serve 7 years & 5 years supevised release
"White collar" crimes never seem to get fitting sentences. Imo. The amount stolen, the people harmed, the selfish lining of his own pockets, the position of trust he was in and of "professionalism" then says to me this is way too light. The other thing would be the number of instances and how long such went on.

Jerry Rivers pleaded guilty to a slew of money laundering, fraud and drug charges in front of Judge Clifton Newman today.

State prosecutor Johnny James says Rivers’ drug deals went down during the 2020 Covid-19 lockdown.

That’s when the Walterboro native sold a large quantity of pills to Eddie Smith who in turn gave it to his “cousin” Murdaugh.

The State says Rivers profited as much as $40 dollars for every pill he sold to Smith, in all collecting more than 16 checks from Smith totaling $88 thousand dollars

Interesting that we've hardly heard of this guy, at least I don't recall hearing his name or much if I did. And I've followed this case throughout even before many out there on the internet were.

I for one don't believe this is as far as it goes for a minute. Maybe they are still working their way up the ladder and sideways too but I'm not counting on it.

Not sure what to make of it right now but I think there are many who aren't going to be held accountable not just with drugs, not just with money but with knowledge, help, turning a blind eye, going his way in cases and court and so much more. Judges, cops, other attorneys, higher ups at all levels of the legal system, etc.
