THIS JUST IN ~ CURRENT CRIME STORIES #2

kind of sounding like foul play. supposedly there is an IA guy who is a POI in the Dominican Republic spring break missing female student case. ARound 10:25 into the video. Just a few minutes long, Scott's never too long in these videos.

Scott's fair, he said there's not enough info yet to put the IA guy guilty but it was an interesting clip with questions asked of him and his stories, etc...

No it doesn't

Punta Cana spring break mystery: A timeline of the missing Pittsburgh student case - ABC News

Authorities said Riibe is not a suspect and is cooperating and being questioned as a witness.

Also,

The sources also explained that her parents acknowledged in the letter that there is no suspicion of foul play in the incident regarding their daughter's presumed death.

Well supposedly he got a lawyer filed some habeus corpus thing to fight the detention with a hearing scheduled for it today. Scott's info was yesterday too and he said it depended on who you believed with reports of whether he had passport taken or gave it voluntarily. Not sure why you'd to fight for a hearing if not being held.

And whether he did something to her, let her drown, lost her or what, is up in the air. I don't tend to believe he left her standing in shallow water but who knows and good chance they'll never be able to prove anything unless she ends up found and possibly not even then.

Anyhow, I was just reporting the news which again he said is varying and I guess you've got a variance.

Sounds a lot like Holloway as well as the stories, and she was never found.

It's linked and they get all from news which clearly if they know there are varying accounts, they looked at more than one.

Anyhow, I'm simply reporting what he said and I linked it. And he's certainly not been able to go home yet although I imagine he will be going home, at some point. Seems to me if you have to fight to do so, you're being detained.

I'm just the messenger.

It was nothing but being smart for him to get an attorney. I will not ever disparage somebody that has been detained for any reason, especially if they are innocent, for retaining help in negotiating the matter. They aren't in the US so detention rules there are not the same as here. I will believe officials reporting that he is not a suspect over some youtube blogger's rendition of the law in another country.

This is the show of his where it's taken from the news not a "rendition" of his. It's all headlines and news of the day. It's better by far than the MSM it comes from, his news team and editor and more are great.

I've got no beef, I was simply putting news in threads, it wasn't the only case he covered on that video, like I said I'm just the messenger and no one asked you to believe anything.

I'm aware of your opinion on lawyering up.

Have a good one.

I didn't realize she didn't have a thread here..... the family believes the young man that is in custody

Yeah, that's why I posted in here too, no thread.

Be interesting to see how much news continues on it, many cases in other countries don't always net much news after a bit. Of course the vacation spots prefer many of them be quieted but his one may be different, I guess we will find out.

And now he's free to leave with the prosecutor stating he was never a suspect to begin with.

.
“Both sides of the authorities have shown us how high the ocean waves were at the time of the incident, and both sides of the authorities have clarified the person of interest was not a suspect from the beginning,”

Lawyers for the Dominican government denied Riibe was being “detained,” and was only a witness in the case – and said he voluntarily turned his passport over to authorities.

My question is that they are stating he handed over his passport voluntarily, but did they ever offer it back to him? If not, then they were 100% detaining him and the judge saw right through it.

I thought we supported victims here?

So what was not victim friendly, as you complained? Is it just because you do not like him?
Where did i say anything wasn't victim friendly? Where did i say i don't like him or complain? This is a discussion forum so i am discussing a situation.

He is someone she had just met, a POI plus he is the main/key witness. He is not a victim IMO.

They had only just met and i think it sounds fishy.

Full story:
The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office in Virginia, where the Konanki family lives, said in a statement Tuesday that "the disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki is tragic, and we cannot imagine the grief her family has been feeling. We have supported them throughout to ensure a rigorous, wide-ranging investigation. We have also met personally with them and continue to provide emotional support through our Victim Advocate Unit.
"Sudiksha’s family has expressed their belief that she drowned. While a final decision to make such a declaration rests with authorities in the Dominican Republic, we will support the Konanki family in every way possible as we continue to review the evidence and information made available to us in the course of this investigation. We thank the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Dominican National Police for their dedication to this investigation and collaboration."
Riibe, a senior at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota who has not been accused of a crime but is considered a crucial witness in the case, has been held under surveillance at the resort since Konanki was reported missing.

His family has called his continued required presence in the country "irregular."

In a leaked transcript of an interview with police, he allegedly told detectives he last saw her on the beach after they were both pulled offshore in a strong current.
Riibe said after struggling back to land, he last saw her walking away in knee-deep water, and then he vomited and fell asleep on a chair, according to a transcript obtained by Fox News.

On Monday, his attorneys filed a writ of habeas corpus, challenging his de facto detention in the country. He has been holed up in the Riu Republica resort since Konanki vanished. They were both staying there for spring break vacations when they met.
Riibe is not accused of a crime, but authorities confiscated his passport while investigating his version of events.
A hearing on the habeas petition is expected to be held Tuesday afternoon, sources said, but the timing could change.

A link dated 17th with a bit more info.

"Riibe is a former pool lifeguard. He said he struggled to pull Konanki ashore, according to the transcript. Once they were on their feet, he said she walked away to get her belongings and he threw up and passed out. He told police she was walking in knee-deep water when he last saw her."
