THIS JUST IN ~ CURRENT CRIME STORIES #2

Who knows how it will turn out but right off the bat it made me think of the Holloway case. That one really hit me and it was long before here or even at JT, still watching TV. It just really struck me I guess because my own kids were not far from her age.

Over time though I changed thoughts on some things, some reporters, some networks, etc.

Since then I've also as many of us have seen many a case where someone goes missing on a cruise, when out of the country on a vacation, etc.

I'd only say as a parent WHY let your kids travel somewhere like this even if they are "adults". If you are paying the bill for college, putting a roof over head, buying clothing, paying for their cell phone bill, you still have some say and control! Hey, one of my kids scared the heck out of me on two trips but I couldn't do much to prevent her going and didn't know it in one case. BOTH trips out of country with friends. I was very limited and unknowing as she paid for herself, planned, and I was not paying for anything for her and she lived with friends and took care of her own bills and worked.

I'm just saying for any parent here IF you do pay, or even pay for the trip, do NOT and stop such. Many a one of us have been there, those years, even if never traveling out of country but partying or drinking, etc. I actually wasn't as my life was a bit out of order.

I've never been to the Dominican but have a sister and a close friend who have. But I've learned in many years to the same area of Mexico that many are so clueless. It took me a few years to start really seeing beyond the "tourist" front and if you get to know the real people, they will start to tell you of it as well. Kids in these countries are even more clueless imo than most of us and we are ignorant ourselves....

And spring break??

I hope she's found safe and it's all just an overdrinking or put on thing.

Here's another article:

My God did I enjoy this. Best thing I've watched in awhile. Tired as heck but don't know what to look up first. Lots of things covered and don't quit watching, it was just so good THROUGHOUT. I highly recommend. I really liked the comments and thoughts on things like whether cameras in courtrooms are good or bad, the skewing and bias a documentary can have and so forth. It was just a GOOD watch, I didn't know what to expect but I enjoyed this a lot.

This sounds terrible. 16 year old Miranda Corsette, kidnapped, murdered and dismembered by couple in St.Petersburg, Florida. Haven't checked if there is a thread for this yet. Looks like they have the perps anyway.

ETA doesnt look like there is a thread.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- A 16-year-old from Florida was allegedly kidnapped, killed and dismembered by a couple after meeting a man through social media, authorities said.

Steven Gress, 35, was arrested and is charged with kidnapping Miranda Corsette in St. Petersburg, Florida. Authorities said his partner, 37-year-old Michelle Brandes, turned herself in on Saturday morning.

Gress and Brandes have now been charged with first degree murder in Corsette's killing.

Police believe that Corsette was killed sometime between Feb. 20 and 24, following a dispute between Corsette, Gress and Brandes.

Corsette was reported missing to Gulfport Police on Feb. 24.

A witness contacted police on March 6 to report information about a possible kidnapping and homicide of a missing teen, the St. Petersburg Police said in a statement.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Corsette was allegedly lured through a social media app to meet Gress on Feb. 14, police said.

After meeting him the first time, Corsette went home. The next day she returned to his home where she remained with Gress and his domestic partner, Brandes, according to police.

After Corsette was killed, Gress allegedly put her body in a car and drove to a house in Largo, St. Petersburg Police said.

Evidence gathered at the Largo home indicates the body was dismembered, driven to Hillsborough County and placed in a dumpster, police said. Officers said they located the dumpster and are working to find the body.

Gress was already in jail on unrelated charges. He was arrested on March 5 for pointing a harpoon at his domestic partner and for possession of drugs, according to police.

The investigation remains active and more charges are expected, police said.

Attorney information for Gress and Brandes was not immediately available.
