So I guess she asked to be handcuffed and taken from the mob?? Not sure if I totally understand the logic of that one

Keimani Latigue's grandmother was not arrested, Toledo police say | wtol.com

She said police called her and told her that there was a "mob" outside her home, and that police would assist in escorting her from her home.
"I asked to be handcuffed," she said. Police corroborated this, describing to WTOL 11 the "arrest" as a "ruse."
This guy that killed her had a very violent history. If he was actually in jail where he belonged, she would still be alive.

The Hearald? Is that a play on Herald? Or a play on they "hurled"?

I make enough typos these days, I quit caring so much but then I'm not a reporter. When I worked where it mattered, I'd have never let that stand and like triple checked.

Anyhow....

Sky News I believe is the one in Petito I think it was that went off the the rails... They lost any chance of respect right there.

Don't know about all of these but just saying...

Yeah it should be the NZ Herald. Have visited relatives in NZ many times. It's like a local rag Not sure what is being combated. Guardian is liberal UK news. Some good ones missing off the list. Like the Independent, Daily Mail.

Not really sure why this is on the crime thread at all.

Yeah, it didn't have me deciding to use them. We get fair coverage from other countries, you bring a lot of it lol. Nice to have that. It's helpful too as in some cases we hardly have coverage but you do and so on.

Personally I don't do news anyhow. I will read links posted of news but other than that i don't do it. I'll watch someone too that covers the headlines in crime or something, I ge.t it that way.

I guess I do watch Nate. Occasionally some Law and Crime or Court TV but I don't consider them news and I'm not their biggest fan always either.

Yeah I noticed some were not on the list and some were on it that I wouldn't follow anyhow lol. Didn't know them all though. No offense to the bird meant, but I know just from time here that I wouldn't watch the news he follows anyhow lol.

Nothing wrong though with getting news from other countries and seeing what they are saying too versus here but not for me that's for sure.

Imo one of my best life decisions was to quit watching news anyhow, I was a news junkie at one time until I saw so clearly through something and that was the end of it. It's also depressing and makes people combative lol. I see it in my mom now, she watches it too much and in the way I used to a long time back.

Anywho I do read it and such here in cases and all but as for me, others can have it. Just a general opinion on news.

Boy found dead in Oxnard was with soccer coach before going missing, family says

The body of a missing 13-year-old boy was found in Ventura County on Wednesday, the family confirmed to FOX 11. Relatives say that he was with his soccer coach just before they reported him missing.

Oscar was reported missing over the weekend, according to the LAPD. He was last seen near Lancaster.

Oscar's family told FOX 11 on Thursday that he was supposed to be with a man they described as his soccer coach on the day he went missing. Oscar played soccer regularly at Whitsett Park in North Hollywood.

Older brother Jose said he tried to call Oscar on Saturday, but the coach answered the phone, saying that Oscar couldn't come to the phone. The phone went dead after that.

Daniel Hernandez, Oscar's father, eventually got in touch with the coach, who said he had dropped Oscar off "near" their house. That's when the family called the police.

A Labour MP has been arrested on suspicion of rape and child sex offences.

Dan Norris, a former minister and the serving MP for North East Somerset, was arrested and taken into custody after police raided his constituency home on Friday.

Mr Norris, who previously worked as a teacher and child protection officer, has been immediately suspended from the Labour Party pending the outcome of the police investigation.

A party spokesman confirmed his arrest on Saturday night, saying: “Dan Norris MP was immediately suspended by the Labour Party upon being informed of his arrest. We cannot comment further while the police investigation is ongoing.”

Mr Norris is currently the Mayor of the West of England as well as an MP.

He won the seat from Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg, the former business secretary, at the general election in July by more than 5,000 votes.

‘Active and sensitive investigation’

Avon and Somerset Police said it was investigating a series of allegations against a man in his sixties.

It said “most of the offences are alleged to have occurred in the 2000s” but added that it was also investigating an alleged offence of rape from the 2020s.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: “In December 2024, we received a referral from another police force relating to alleged non-recent child sex offences having been committed against a girl.

“Most of the offences are alleged to have occurred in the 2000s, but we’re also investigating an alleged offence of rape from the 2020s.

“An investigation, led by officers within Operation Bluestone, our dedicated rape and serious sexual assault investigation team, remains ongoing and at an early stage.

“The victim is being supported and given access to any specialist help or support she needs.

“A man, aged in his sixties, was arrested on Friday on suspicion of sexual offences against a girl (under the Sexual Offences Act 1956), rape (under the Sexual Offences Act 2003), child abduction and misconduct in a public office.

“He’s been released on conditional bail for enquiries to continue. This is an active and sensitive investigation, so we’d respectfully ask people not to speculate on the circumstances so our enquiries can continue unhindered.”

This is likely to cause a headache for Sir Keir Starmer and his team as they attempt to negotiate a trade deal with the White House amid a spiralling global tariff war.

Personnel issues in the parliamentary Labour Party have blighted the Prime Minister’s first months in office, with one MP already stepping down after being sentenced for assault.

Mike Amesbury, the MP for Runcorn and Helsby, assaulted a constituent following a verbal fracas in October.

Amesbury was later convicted of assault and resigned his seat, triggering a by-election due to take place on May 1.

The 55 year-old admitted drinking “about seven pints” before the assault took place and said he “should have walked away” instead of repeatedly punching Paul Fellows.

Amesbury was given a 10-week prison sentence, which was suspended on appeal last month after he had spent three days behind bars.

Appearing on ITV’s Good Morning Britain last month wearing an alcohol monitoring tag, he said voters in his area felt “quite vexed” about a number of issues, including the removal of winter fuel payments. He said: “It does make you somewhat anxious.”

If an MP is convicted of a crime and given a custodial sentence, a recall petition is triggered in their constituency, usually leading to a by-election.

Mr Norris previously sat as the Labour MP in the same area he now serves from 1997 until 2010, when it was known as Wansdyke. He served as an environment minister under Gordon Brown from 2009 to 2010.

At the 2010 election, he was beaten by Sir Jacob.

After leaving parliament, he worked on the Labour leadership campaign of David Miliband, ran businesses and was employed by the Russell Group of universities.

Mr Norris was elected as Mayor of the West of England in 2021 and has held that position alongside his seat in parliament since the election.

He was due to run for re-election to the position in May but was disbarred from doing so under Labour’s new rules against second jobs.

Mr Norris holds a master’s degree in social work and has described himself as “a qualified and former practicing child protection officer”.

An animal welfare charity said Mr Norris has stepped down from his role as its chairman.

A spokesman for the League Against Cruel Sports said: “We can confirm Dan Norris MP has stepped down from his role as chair of the League Against Cruel Sports, and an interim chair has been appointed from the Board of Trustees.

“The charity cannot comment further while an investigation is ongoing.”

Wow. Sounds pretty political but very well may be true. Hard to say. I keep saying idiots run the world but regardless of who the party is or what country, could be abuse of power by all, politics, etc. and I may change it to creeps run the world although often it's an agenda. Doesn't mean for one minute though most aren't the same...

Enough said I guess but why does it all become political? Just do JUSTICE. Not sure how your country works vs. ours but I see it in most of the civilized countries, can't think of the word, sorry. If he did this that is ALL that matters, if he didn't that is ALL that matters. And justice for victims becomes a political thing...

I known better than to talk politics but I AM talking generally and others get away with it, my position has always been at least in our country they are almost all the same, and we think they are enemies but they aren't. It's just what they do for the public...

Who can judge when an agenda comes in. Race cases tend to be the same...

So what do you think of your country and this? Not sure what to think here. I would normally jump to he needs to go to prison for life but when they have to add the political thing well... They need to separate politics and justice in every single way imo.

Hopefully the younger generations than us will try to do something but it won't work.

I lean towards guilt but again politics here...
