Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Oh no!! This is not exactly next door but quite close to home!! An hour or so. This doesn't happen "here"! and I mean really, it doesn't!! What in the heck!! A ten year old!! I never went into the link expecting it to even be in this state much less the upper half. No clue on who? Shows you how busy I am I never heard this or a hint of it today.

Sounds like an ahole teenager thing to do. What would someone think that would do?. I can see it being lobbed to start something on fire, Such as a tree. But a 6 yr old?. I just can't see an adult doing this.

It was another child. 8 years old. History of bullying the 6 year old.

Thank you very much. I went back to the first one and saw this article but I thought I had reached the end and I didn't. That's more alarming. 8?! I hear more and more of younger and younger violent offenders. I was playing with barbies and matchbox cars. We never had anything like this happen when I was growing up in any of the schools I went to. Or heard of anything. They need to lock the 8 yr old up for mental evaluation, Because what is going on there. I'm guessing problems started at home for him to act so violently at 8.

A sheriff's office in Alabama issued an alert Friday night after an inmate and the assistant director of corrections went missing earlier in the day. Authorities said the inmate, who was being held on capital murder charges, should be considered "armed and extremely dangerous."

Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton told reporters Friday night that Vicki White, a 25-year veteran at the department, left the local detention center with Casey Cole White at 9:41 a.m. He said she told other officials she was going to drop him off at the courthouse for a mental health evaluation and then was going to seek medical attention because she wasn't feeling well. Despite having the same last name, the two are not related.

Shortly after 11 a.m., someone found her patrol vehicle in a parking lot of a shopping center. At 3:30 p.m., officials became aware that no one had been able to contact her, and that the inmate had not been returned to custody.

I am with you on that one! What a world it seems we live in some days with bad headline like this after bad headlines. I am still reeling from the 14 year old killing the 10 year old in WI.

At first I thought or tried to that well they are probably new parents, young, naive as I read through it but then I see she was required to keep a feeding log because of an incident with another child! And then of course there are TWO parents here!! Both forget/forgot???
