Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Okay. All have their different focus but for me, sometimes the surface or hot issue is not the depth of the overall problems going on underneath. This kind of thing has to stop. This is ridiculous! And any judge that could do this needs to go or whoever is responsible for it!

Me and you both. On the other hand it sounds like prosecutors cut a deal so to me it sounds like the county in general maybe needs a good look at... Then again, it may not be the prosecutors either, just someone telling them we can't spend the money, this will take years, etc., etc. we don't have the resources or the people OR it could be well this is not a big case, no one knows about it, it has no national attention... And afater all, you don't want your area known for bad sex offenders... OR a bad crime rate... Who knows? All I know is it goes on too much. Why is that?

ahhh, I had missed that little bit about the bf being with her.

So was she being set up by the bf? Who else would have wanted her dead? They called her by name before she was shot, so it definitely was not random.
