Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

I tend to go there when it is a pregnant woman. Not that I am a statistic fan but so often is the case. Just as I go to parents if the story of a missing child does not add up. And just as I believe when a woman, like Suzanne Morphew (just for one example) disappears I would look to the husband first.

All that said, I don't convict and am not sure and even probably a year ago I would try to hope otherwise but it is just so often the case... For men too, not just women and children. I truly think in MOST cases it is someone they know... Are there random shootings and killings, sure... However, drug or gang related, etc. seem to have different elements usually...

Just like baby Thaddeus right now, the parents' story just was "hokey" from the start with little further explanation... Do we know yet? No... I just don't believe some random stranger came in after that particular child who in fact allegedly was just moved there...
