ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

Curtis Jack arrested for poisoning his 18 day old baby

Atlanta GA , Oct 12
Officers were called to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite on Monday in reference to a child with serious injuries. The infant tested positive for ethylene glycol, a chemical compound commonly found in antifreeze.

Investigators identified the child’s father, 45-year-old Curtis Jack, as a suspect in the case, according to the post. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail on charges of criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree cruelty to children and child endangerment, jail records show. No additional details have been released.

It was difficult to read this. Skull fractures are a very big deal and severe and 9 rib fractures? And he DRESSED the child and left?? Stating he dressed the child is odd to me. I don't know what it means if anything, just an odd statement.

May he reap his just "rewards" and ROT and be tormented for what he did. This one is EVIL.

Lisa Montgomery is expected to receive lethal injection on December 8, the Justice Department says. In 2004, she was convicted of strangling a Missouri woman who was eight-months pregnant, then cut out and kidnapped the baby.

On 16 December 2004, Montgomery, entered the home of 23-year-old Bobbie Jo Stinnett whom she had befriended on an online chat forum. It is thought that the two women had never met in person until Montgomery called at Stinnett’s house in Skidmore, Missouri, under an assumed alias ‘Darlene Fischer’ a prospective buyer of a rat terrier puppy from Stinnett’s dog-breeding business – Happy Haven Farms. It is believed that Stinnett, who was eight months pregnant, let Montgomery into her home believing her to be a legitimate customer. She was subsequently attacked by Montgomery, who strangled her from behind with a piece of cord then slit open her stomach with a kitchen knife, before removing the unborn baby which she then took home. Stinnett was found in a pool of blood about an hour later by her mother Becky Harper, she was rushed to hospital where doctors tried to revive here but pronounced dead soon after arrival.

Missouri deputies use drone with thermal camera to find missing 93-year-old woman

Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office used the equipment in a dark farm field Sunday evening, The Kansas City Star reported.

The woman’s husband called authorities about 8:30 p.m., saying his wife had gone for a walk at 5 p.m. and had not returned.

Deputies searched several acres on foot but were unable to find the woman, KMBC reported. Officials decided to use an unmanned aerial vehicle, a DjI Matrice 210, which was equipped with the thermal camera, the television station reported.

Within five minutes of launching the drone, deputies found the woman about a quarter-mile from her home, the Star reported. She was tired and missing a shoe but was in good health, the sheriff’s office said.
“This is an excellent use of current technology to help our citizens,” Cass County Sheriff Jeff Weber said in the news release. “The ability to deploy a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) in these types of situations saves time and resources, especially when time is of the essence. Every minute counts.”

That is remarkable! She is safe and the drone found her.

Grrrrr....!!!! 😡

“The evidence in this case will show that Zyaire Reed suffered abuse for almost half of his very young life,” Worthy said in the news release. “He was 13 months old when he died. The alleged facts of this case left seasoned prosecutors shaking their heads and vowing to seek justice for him.”

OKLAHOMA CITY -
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is seeking the public's help in the investigation of a crash on Interstate 40 on Saturday that killed four people.

Investigators need information about a possibly impaired driver they have identified as Ashley Ricks, 33, who caused the crash.

Ricks survived the crash and was taken to OU Medical Center where she is in critical condition. Troopers are asking for people who know Ricks to contact OHP if they know what she was doing in the hours that led up to the crash.

The deadly crash shut down Interstate 40 near Country Club Road for several hours Saturday morning. First responders knew it was bad when they heard it was a head-on collision. <snip>

The driver, who was approximately 30 years old, was shot once in the chest and once in the left leg, investigators said.

He was taken by police to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital where is was listed in critical condition.

Neighbors in the area said they are shocked by the shooting and that many in the area know the FedEx drivers by name.

One person has been arrested in connection with the shooting, police said. No weapon has been recovered.

I'm glad this lady has been found, but the stories between the rescuers and her daughter are polar opposite. Daughter says she was too weak to self rescue and could only take a couple of steps at a time and she couldn't even open her mouth because of dehydration (she was found next to a stream) and the rescuers saying she needed only minimal assistance to get out. Not sure what to make of this one.
