ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

I haven't checked current crimes in a bit because of life but this one is tragic and I had not heard of it. So she was only 7.5 months pregnant, some woman cut the baby out and took it to the hospital where it died! Sad that not only mom but even the baby did not survive. I hope justice is swift and fast in this one. No perp named at least as of the time of this article, but someone was arrested.

A Pregnant Texas Woman Was Killed and Her Baby Was Taken from Womb, Suspect in Custody
Her "friend" was faking a pregnancy and killed this woman to take her baby. The "friend's" fiancee was also arrested - their FB was full of gender reveals, shower plans, etc and she was never pregnant. Sounds almost like the one in Austin earlier this year but at least that baby survived.

The fiancee too? So she was not faking a pregnancy for the man, he knew about it and was involved?? Yes, I think the other one you are talking about is the Heidi Broussard case. Sad. I never heard about this case here until I read it today.

Babysitter charged after leaving injured 8-month-old in dumpster, assaulting baby’s child’s mother in Connecticut

An 8-month-old baby girl with burn injuries was left in a dumpster by her babysitter, who also attacked the child’s mother, police said Tuesday.
Andiana Velez, 24, left the child in the trash bin at the Presidential Gardens apartment complex along Dixwell Ave. in Newhallville on Monday, New Haven police said.
She abandoned the baby after assaulting the infant’s 21-year-old mom, cops said. Velez now faces several charge, including assault, reckless endangerment and risk of injury to a child.
The 8-month-old was discovered with burns on her hands, but authorities have not yet determined how she got them or who was responsible.
he baby was discovered by maintenance workers at the complex around 2 p.m. Monday after they heard the child crying.
“You can tell she was freezing, freezing in that trash can,” Rick Chardon, one of the workers who found the girl, told Eyewitness 3 News.
Authorities said the child was alert. She was rushed to Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital in stable condition.
Velez is set to appear before Superior Court in New Haven, and is being held on a $250,000 bond.

My God, what is wrong with people?? Thank goodness the child is alive. Sometimes I just don't have words and this is one of those times.

Jason Ravnsborg, South Dakota attorney general - pedestrian killed

Man struck by South Dakota AG's car died from vehicle impact, initial autopsy confirms

Ravnsborg called 911 on the evening of Sept. 12, but a blood sample wasn’t given to authorities until the next day at roughly 1:30 p.m, Price said.

The public safety secretary said that Ravnsborg's blood alcohol content was 0, but also said the average body sheds .015 percent alcohol per hour. An individual with 0.08 percent blood alcohol content is considered to be driving under the influence, according to the state’s public safety website.

It would take about six hours to return to 0 blood alcohol content from the legal limit, based on the average given by Price, and Ravnsborg’s sample was taken about 15 hours after the accident.

Audio from the 911 call and a transcript were released on Tuesday, along with Ravnsborg's toxicology results. In the audio, Ravnsborg identifies himself as the state attorney general and tells the dispatcher he hit "something."

"It sure hit me," Ravnsborg said in the call. "Smashed my windshield."

"Oh no, OK," the dispatcher responded. "Do you think it was a deer or something?"

Full transcript of 911 call from the night of Ravnsborg’s fatal crash released

Hmm. Not sure what to think. Of course notable is right off the bat he states he is the Attorney General. Go figure, big surprise. He did call 911, one has to give him that, however, I don't know... Stating his position and who he is right off, his car so destroyed that he has to take what, the sheriff's car home?? Wouldn't they test anyone else right then no matter what they hit for an accident that caused that much damage? Maybe not, hard to say, perhaps their radar would not be up if the person actually called it in... I mean who would call in if they were intoxicated or anything? Yet weren't there car parts, etc. in the road, no reason to bring in a crew or test him nor anything...?

I find the statement that it was in the middle of the road very odd. I find it very hard to believe the other man was walking down the middle of the road towards oncoming traffic likely with headlights on... No one does that. That statement sounds like butt covering... The damage to the car should bear that out one would think if an honest reconstruction takes place.

I would be interested in his phone records and whether anyone was called or contacted prior or after that call.

Same case as the other day. Boy this woman sure has her "woe is me face" perfected. Too bad. I can't help but wonder why you would take a baby at 7 1/2 months? Why would you think it would survive? Or was stealing the baby not the real reason behind this?!

soooooo...he knows it was right in the middle of the road. How does one not know the difference between a person and a deer if they know it was in the middle of the road AND it hit your windshield enough to break it? I get it if it came from the side, but he states he saw it in the middle of the road. Surrrrrre.

Yep. That part bugs me too. You can see one thing but not another, you knew you hit what it was in the middle of the road but did not see what it was? People following the law walk on the left side of the road at oncoming traffic in that same lane coming onwards on their right. Not everyone does it but no one walks down the middle. The only time you would be in the middle is if you are crossing the road. It also still gets me that this area in an article a week or so ago is supposedly like streetlight lit... I find it very hard to believe he saw nothing.

Now a deer may come into you from the side that you did not see, as you say, running and bounce off your car, people do not collide with your car running towards it and into it and bounce off your car.

I truly even wonder if this man was moved or at least I wonder it at times based on some of the details.

In which lane was he at impact? Photos of thee car showed the passenger side windshield was bashed.

What really stands out to me is that the first words out of Ravnsborg's mouth was "I am the AG."
Agree with this too. Isn't that the truth...? What's the need for that... And then she gets his name wrong, first name... Not sure what to think of that... And then towards the end of the call, the fact the license plate is a government vehicle, etc. but I guess that could have come up naturally and it did seem to...

Yep. I would think he would have wanted to keep that one the downlow, hoping that not everybody would associate the name right off the bat. It probably would have worked, too (ot not raised as many eyebrows immediately) since the dispatcher didn't even know his name after he mentioned he was the AG prior to that.

Yeah, telling people you're the AG seems like a way to "muscle" your way in a conversation.
