ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

Well, they are not saying it was a hoax but they are doing a criminal probe into whether this hiker was pulling a hoax... The Holly Courtier case. One can say this, maybe she will think twice before ever again taking off allegedly without her family knowing and without her phone to hike in a park in another state, experienced hiker that she is one would think she would know better anyhow but who knows...

WOW! I just turned 16. Unreal. Of course ANOTHER case where they let someone out of Jail only to go on to kill.
Yeah, five whole years for 2nd degree child sexual assault. What a joke. Then he comes out and rapes and murders this time a 22 year old woman? Apparently any age will do. To me, any provable sexual assault of a child should be life in prison but clearly that's not our system.

Last seen running from her bf's car after an argument would normally have me suspecting the bf but the DNA did not match. What are the odds and then she runs into this man somehow...

I will say there are a ton of cold cases getting solved lately, so many it is noticeable. In this case, they pulled from a cigarette butt and beer cans from near his home belonging to him. I guess when he went to jail DNA was not taken so he would not be in the data base.

Connecticut Won't Retry Kennedy Cousin In Martha Moxley Murder Case

Connecticut prosecutors are closing the door on the 45-year-old murder case involving Kennedy cousin Michael Skakel, who was previously accused of bludgeoning to death his 15-year-old neighbor Martha Moxley in Greenwich.

Chief State's Attorney Richard Colangelo Jr. said Friday — exactly 45 years after Moxley's death — that the state will not seek a second trial for Skakel.

The decision comes after Colangelo's review of the case found that of 51 potential prosecution witnesses, 17 have died, making it difficult to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt, his office said.

This decision effectively ends a case that has garnered wide public attention for decades, due in part to the Skakel family's wealth and the grisly details of the brutal crime.

Skakel was convicted of murder in 2002 and has been free on bail since 2013, when a state judge vacated his conviction. Superior Court Judge Thomas Bishop ruled at that time that the the trial defense presented by Skakel's original lawyer was flawed and required a retrial. One such gap in the defense was the failure to call an alibi witness for Skakel.

The Connecticut Supreme Court ordered a new trial in 2018. Seeger said his office was working to prepare for that trial leading up to Friday's hearing.

Moxley was found dead in the wealthy Connecticut suburb of Greenwich in 1975. She was beaten with a golf club, which was later found to belong to the Skakel family, and also stabbed with the broken metal shaft.

The case was cold for 25 years until Skakel's arrest in 2000. Skakel was also 15 at the time of the murder.

Skakel, now 60, is a nephew of Robert F. Kennedy's widow Ethel Kennedy.

Not sure whether to be mad or sad or both. Wow, 34 potential witnesses are not enough? I guess not.

I love the last sentence. He is Ethel's nephew who is Robert's widow. So the he77 what? Big hairy deal. Of course it can be when it comes to justice I guess...

Poor you
Poor shame filled boy. Uh-huh. Youtube is full again right now of things about him and the case and the women and I refuse to watch them. He needs to go bye bye and be forgotten. No one will forget what he did EVER but as for him, his ugly little head can quit rearing itself for attention imo. It's interesting, people who are shame filled don't usually want movies and media attention...

Lori Loughlin also is in the headlines lately, total PR campaign/spin trying to look humble now I guess and committed to doing her time, etc. I refuse to share that stuff either or look at the articles...

Everyone in that deal got off pretty easy imo. That's the "elite" for ya...

CW is a scum bag. Then of course we have Scott Peterson back in the news and a retry on the penalty phase...

I have said it before but for a ton of reasons, I am not enamored with this year of 2020...

Demetrius Samuel Roam is charged with rape, kidnapping, aggravated sodomy and aggravated assault in connection with the attacks. Police said Roam met his victims on social media before assaulting them at his home. Roam was booked into the DeKalb County Jail on Oct. 24, and he remains there without bond.

note: if you choose a life of crime, such an easily identifiable tattoo is a bad idea

this is a story we talked about when it happened (now in lost data)

Two of five defendants pleaded guilty Friday in the deaths of two South Georgia teens who were found buried behind their mobile home.

Candace Crocker, the stepmother, pleaded guilty to the murders of Mary Crocker and her brother, Elwyn “JR” Crocker Jr., who were found in December 2018 in shallow graves near a dog pen in Effingham County, according to The Savannah Morning News. Crocker was sentenced to life without parole, escaping the death penalty. Roy Prater, the only defendant who hadn’t been facing the death penalty, pleaded guilty to murder and hasn’t been sentenced.

The two are expected to testify against their co-defendants who pleaded not guilty.

Authorities have said they believe the siblings were both 14 when they went missing two years apart, JR in 2016, Mary in 2018. Authorities have said the siblings were beaten, starved and forced to live in a cage.
