ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

This is horrible. I don't know how she managed to get anywhere with such burns nor how she named him. I go a bit back and forth on the people who would not open their doors but did call for help or at least someone did. I can understand the fear of opening the door but she kept going or trying to get help it sounds like... Regardless, this man needs to face the death penalty.

Normally I would be suspicious of this and I am but when reading it, it sounds as if he was devastated, although they are doing the appropriate thing and investigating anyways. If this was an "accident", it is absolutely tragic. I do have questions though, was it that dark? If she was up and about, did she have no light on when pregnant and trying to see where she was going, that seems a bit risky... Was the dog under the blankets to mistake your dog for your wife...? If it is normal for the dog to get into the bed, why would you assume it was your wife? If worried about intruders, is the area known for it to easily come to that conclusion and shoot? Had there been other break-ins/concerns?

I think saying it was one of New York City's most notorious murders is saying a LOT. This is quite the couple, and she is out on bond(!). He has no bond thank goodness but just the fact this woman could be part of this, know this, watch this, etc. is horrid enough.
