ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

More info on the above, I looked back. It explains a lot more. The dad did save the ones that were saved or so it sounds... Tragic choices at Thanksgiving time no less. Heartbreaking.

The video in the above article shows the truck pulled out, the creek, what type of truck and how deep it was... Reading more, my heart can't help but break for the parents knowing more now than on the first more recent article... So many "if onlys" though...

Missing. They do have a description of her car, a purple Kia, and her plate number so I take it the car has not been found nor her.

Found Safe!

I'm waiting to hear how this would be enforced.
Ya know it is the hypocrisy that bothers me. For years they have continually advanced the war on non smoking and cigarettes and when they are actually getting to the point of accomplishing it in most places, businesses, etc., the legalization of smoking pot indoors starts advancing... And I am not talking in one's own apartment only...

It sounds like something San Francisco would come up with... Be prepared for someone to manufacture a cig that looks like the other and smells like it too.

Even simpler, cig smokers who never smoked pot will take it up to cover the smell of the cig... Duh.

How sad. Witnesses were able to get dad out. They got out all FOUR children. Two died and two are fighting for their lives.

I will say this is what good people do! They help and these people did despite fear and the car on fire. Kudos to those that got the kids out. I pray the other two survive and pray for the loved ones.

GOOD! I followed this case and so many commenters trashed her (on a site that does not allow that but let it go on constantly) and even after she was found and other evidence was known, many seemed to think there was no case. Imo this man would never have pled if the evidence was not there.

I am tickled to hear this, thank you for sharing it! Just so he gets the 50 years at minimum...

they smell differently, but it seems that the same LOGICAL rules should apply to both

Sure is. You can't even grill on most balconies or patios attached to apartments nowadays for goodness sakes and that is outside. Lawmakers (many) have no common sense nor rhyme nor reason...
that most likely has to do with people catching their decks on fire than for the smoke. An apartment complex not far from here went up in flames because somebody was grilling on their wood deck and dozens of families were displaced. Many, including the person that caused the fire, had no renters insurance.
