ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

that most likely has to do with people catching their decks on fire than for the smoke. An apartment complex not far from here went up in flames because somebody was grilling on their wood deck and dozens of families were displaced. Many, including the person that caused the fire, had no renters insurance.
Very likely but I have also seen regulations on outdoor wood furnaces because the smoke bothers neighbors. Just talking generally, it is something lit in your apartment, something lit on your deck. Smoke. And as far as fire, surprised candles have not been outlawed.

People don't chain smoke pot, or cigars. Chain smoking will permeate the walls severely.
Not all people who smoke cigs chain smoke either. I have seen continual smoking of cigars. Not arguing, just saying one would think it would be no to all of it. I can also tell you of homes that reeked of nothing but years of pot smoking... In one case, it was the home of someone very loved and it had permeated everywhere.

That's funny since everyone can light matches, smoke and everything else like that on the balconies/patios, at least in the one I am familiar with. And renter's insurance is required. Just talking about things that don't make sense...
Grills have active fire though and many places dont keep up on their tenants having insurance. Insurance also doesnt prevent a fire from displacing people and losing their stuff if an irresponsible tenant sets their deck on fire. It just keeps them from financial ruin if it does happen.

Okay, who wants to go with me and hold one foot while I take the other and dangle this woman upside down from about a 50 story building?? WTH is wrong with people?

Well this agent's cover is probably now blown with his surveillance. And what is the end of the article where police showed but left when she did not answer?
