ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

This is scary. I think it's the same person. And someone familiar to her. Terrifying an old woman. All disguised. BIG MAN!
Something is really wrong here. Do you mean to tell me it is just vandalism and no theft? Just causes damage and probably scares her to death but does nothing more? And with all of these measures, they can't catch him? Hmm...

Also, he dresses up like this and goes to all that trouble to cover up, is hers the only house he hits? No one else in the neighborhood or elsewhere reporting a similar person, same build and disguise...?

Just vandalism. I think that's what they are trying to do. Scare her. I really think she is familiar with this person.

Yeah, something is up. While it is good the person is not striking elsewhere and doing more damage, there is a reason she is the focus. The part that bites is it should not be that hard to figure it out and arrest the person...

I wish someone would recognize the shape, Stance, Etc. Of this guy.
Where does he come from? How does he get there? No security cameras catching those things? Where does he head to after? He seems to know when he can hit. She has had people stay, etc. all to no avail. What is the intent and what is the person getting out of it? Just a teen punk getting a thrill? Why there and only there? Someone want her to move or end up in a home?

I don't know, just saying it is strange. May not be a priority of the PD but I don't think it would take much of their time to solve it and nail the person...

He hits when no one is there. That's one of the reasons I think they know her.

Yeah, I noticed that too. They don't just know her, they know the activities or plans or so it seems. This is someone in the inside circle most likely... I mean really, even a punk kid that is somewhat a stranger is not going to get enough thrill out of this to obsess or spend so much time on knowing... They would also be more likely to be stealing or getting something out of it...

Someone with a grudge, I'd think.

I don't want to accuse anyone of anything, but could it be an inside job?
This is where I am leaning. It's not accusing a certain individual either. I would look at though the entire inner circle starting with adult children and their spouses, then grandchildren and their spouses, then down all the way to great grandchildren or their friends and things like that even. Then branch out to neighbors. I worked around a lot of theft and vandalism claims and it should come as no surprise to anyone that more often than not, it was someone who had been in the home, even welcome in the home. The way this repeats and it seems to be only at her...

I cannot believe I never heard this when it happened. This is sad, tragic. I know of people who have pushed through a short shallow depth of water on a rare occasion in our state but never around a barricade. I am trying not to judge but this is Arizona where it flash floods and sweeps away and on top of that 7 children in the vehicle and 3 of them nieces and not your own? I have to say I don't think most people would make this decision. The remark that more could be done bothers me as well, he went around a barricade. What does he expect them to get out there and do as conditions change? If a live electric wire was on the road and he chose to move it and it just came down from a storm, is that on someone else?

I don't doubt these parents are devastated and I do not doubt he regrets his choice more than likely (but get past blaming others please) but three children are dead.

I also guess any vehicle large enough to legally carry nine people (assuming all were seated and belted in appropriate seats) he probably thought would hold against the water.

I don't know but it is sad all of the way around. I don't know all the ages but my guess is the older ones and parents survived and it was the youngest who couldn't hold their own or be saved that died or were in a certain spot in the vehicle, no idea....

The grand jury brought down quite a few charges against them...
