A 20-year-old soldier stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, is missing, and Army investigators are reaching out to the public for help finding her.

Pfc Vanessa Guillen was last seen wearing a black T-shirt early Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of her Regimental Engineer Squadron Headquarters, 3rd Cavalry Regiment. Her car keys, barracks room key, identification card and wallet were found in the armory room where she was working, Fort Hood said.

Mayra Guillen, the soldier’s sister, posted on Facebook that her sister’s phone was last pinged near Belton, about 20 miles east of the Army post. “Something is not right,” she wrote, “please help me find her.”

‘Extensive search’ continues for missing soldier in Texas after keys, wallet found

Agents at a U.S. military post in Texas are searching for a soldier who has been missing for three days.

Private First Class Vanessa Guillen, 20, was last seen Wednesday afternoon in a parking lot at Fort Hood, where she’s stationed, wearing a black T-shirt.

“Her car keys, barracks room key, identification card and wallet were later found in the armory room where she was working earlier in the day,” officials said in a press release.

Friends and family of Guillen have flooded their social media accounts with pleas to the public to contact the authorities if anyone has any information.

Mayra Guillen wrote on a Facebook post that her sister’s phone was last tracked on Belton, Texas, about 20 minutes away from where she was last seen. Neither her boyfriend or relatives have heard from her since she disappeared, she said.

“Please help me find my girlfriend,” Guillen’s boyfriend, Juan Cruz, tweeted on Friday. “Please anything helps.”

“An extensive search is underway by military members, as well as civilian and military police,” authorities said. Special agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command are also involved in the search.

Domingo García, president of the League of United Latin American Citizens, (LULAC) announced Tuesday that the national advocacy group was adding another $25,000 to the reward pot for information leading to Guillen’s whereabouts or that leads to the indictment of anyone involved in her disappearance. The military has already offered a $25,000 reward.

“This young lady put on the uniform to serve our country; the least we can do is find out where she is now and what we can do to help her,” García said.

Didn't her sister say she was sexually harrassed, not sexually assaulted?

Yep. But you know how these rumors get started...
And since she didn't report it, of course there would be no evidence of that.
Vanessa was last seen in workout clothes. From your post below, apparently this sergeant would often follow her when she went for a run / workout. She wanted to "put a stop to it herself". I hope somebody knows the name of this guy and I hope they are putting him under a lot of pressure.

From the Find Vanessa Guillen – PFC, U.S. Army page;

Three weeks before I disappeared, my mom asked me why I seemed different. My mom knows me better than anyone else. She noticed I had become withdrawn and that I wasn’t able to sleep like I used to.

I finally told my mom that I was being sexually harassed by one of my sergeants on Fort Hood. My mom tried tried to convince me to give her the name of the person who was harassing me, but I didn’t want to get in trouble. My mom told me that she would report it for me, but I told her that I knew of other female soldiers that had reported sexual harassment and that the US Army didn’t believe them. I told my mom how the same sergeant that sexually harassed me would follow me whenever I would run and exercise and how uncomfortable it made me feel. My mom told me she would put a stop to it, but I told her I would take care of it myself. I felt I could put a stop to it myself. All I had to do was do something, say something. I was ready to take care of it.

Yes! My first thought on reading that as well. Maybe some on social media you know how that can go, made it into that but I look at the above things and it seems pretty clear to me what they are doing and it is what they don't say as well.... I know this place has and had other things and I just can't put my finger on them but the superior and women strikes a serious bell with me... I can't swear to it, however... Or quite remember. I looked when this case first opened here quickly with a few searches...

Family attorney talks next step in search for missing soldier

As the search for missing Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen continues, calls for an independent investigation continue to grow.

Guillen was last seen on April 22. Since then, her family has pushed for answers in her disappearance. They are now represented by attorney Natalie Khawam.

Khawam says her job is to get answers for the family and continue their push for transparency.

“I have my eye on getting the Office of Inspector General (OIG) involved to pursue and look into what was done because of their familiarity with protocol, she said.

Earlier Wednesday, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) released a statement about Guillen’s disappearance.

“The question everyone is asking is ‘Where is Vanessa Guillen?’. It’s unacceptable that a young soldier simply disappears from a military base and is unaccounted for this amount of time. I agree with Congresswoman Garcia that there should be an independent, federal investigation into this matter. We need to get to the bottom of what happened and find Ms. Guillen,” Gonzalez said in the statement.

As far as the allegation that Guillen was a victim of sexual assault, officials said “at this point, investigators have no credible information or report that Vanessa Guillen was sexually assaulted.”

But, Khawam says that doesn’t tell the story.

“It’s a norm that women...victims don’t report sexual harassment and assault when it happens because they are afraid of retaliation. God forbid this is an example of that,” she said.

Col. Ralph Overland, commander of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment, appointed a team to perform a standard investigation called an “AR 15-6 investigtion” in order to figure out if Pfc. Vanessa Guillen was sexually harassed before she went missing from her unit April 22.

“I opened an investigation concerning the information provided by the Guillen Family that Pfc. Vanessa Guillen was harassed prior to her disappearance,” Col. Overland said. “I take allegations of sexual harassment very seriously and we are conducting a thorough investigation.”

NOT Vanessa. The other missing soldier.

Skeletal remains discovered in field are those of missing Ft. Hood soldier Gregory Wedel Morales

The mother of Fort Hood soldier Gregory Wedel Morales said Saturday the skeletal remains discovered Friday morning in Killeen, Texas are those of her son, who had been missing since August 2019.

The remains were found during a K9 search of a wooded field in the 3200 block of Florence Road after the Fort Hood Criminal Investigation contacted Killeen police in reference to a tip it received.

Killeen officers, Fort Hood CID personnel and a Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife K9 team searched the field Friday morning and discovered the remains and established a crime scene, police said.

Attorney Natalie Khawam said she's discovered at least two alleged incidents of sexual harassment -- a superior walking in on Vanessa showering and another verbally assaulting Vanessa with vulgar remarks in Spanish. Khawam said she's worried about how this case might turn out. She said Vanessa told loved ones she didn't want to report the sexual harassment out of fear of retaliation.

"The facts aren't good. I don't like them," said Khawam. "There were a few incidents where she had told her colleagues, her friends, her family about being sexually harassed but she was afraid to report it. How does someone disappear on a base that has more protection and safeguards than anyone else on the planet?"

On Thursday, the Army's Criminal Investigation Command said it's launching an investigation into allegations that Guillen was sexually harassed.

Texas Equusearch temporarily suspends search near Leon River for Vanessa Guillen

Texas Equusearch is temporarily suspending the search for missing Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen saying they have thoroughly combed through the area near Leon River.

The non-profit started their search on Sunday, June 21, 2020, with help from U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command, Texas Rangers and Texas Game Wardens.

Equusearch's Tim Miller says this was the 5th time they have come out to this location.

Sexual assault advocates call Vanessa Guillen case example of military's disregard for victims

State and local sexual assault advocates called the handling of missing Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen's case an example of a systemic problem within the U.S. military and how it handles assault, harassment and rape.

The statement came in a press release Thursday from the leaders of Aware Central Texas and Families in Crisis, both of which are in Bell County, and the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault.

"We are equally disturbed by the inaction from the military; the United States Army took nearly two full months before addressing Vanessa’s disappearance publicly and taking the allegation of sexual harassment seriously. This is unacceptable," the press release said.

The release said Guillen's story is "all too familiar and similar to civilian stories - disclosures are met with resistance, disbelief, victim blame and no justice."

"We must acknowledge that Vanessa’s case is also emblematic of a larger, systemic problem within the United States Military: a sheer disregard for the assault, harassment, and rape that too many victims experience while serving their country," the press release said.

Missed this before they called off the search...

Items found in river could be linked to missing Fort Hood soldier, Vanessa Guillen

Days after searching a local river, Texas EquuSearch continued their efforts Wednesday in the search for missing Fort Hood Pfc. Vanessa Guillen, 20, and they may have been productive.

“I think we found some things and they’re doing some testing on some things. If it has anything to do with it or not, I don’t know. We were all pretty optimistic on it. We won’t know for sure until results come back from the lab,” EquuSearch founder Tim Miller said.

“Yes, there is a reason we have been every place we have been,” he added.

'Unidentified' remains found near area where soldier's remains discovered, sources say

Witnesses reported finding unidentified remains in a Killeen field on Saturday evening, according to police.

At 1:33 pm, officers were called to the 3400 block of Florence Road for an area check after people say they spotted remains while in the area.

KWTX-10 said the discovery was found within walking distance of the site where investigators found soldier Gregory Wedel-Morales' remains on June 19.

This information comes as search crews continue to look for missing Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit have removed the remains and sent them to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for further review.

Wow, I did not realize there has been some developments here. Sad it takes having to get support and push and push to get it to occur. It likely could not have even been done ten years ago and would have just ended up swept under the rug. Even now, it has taken them a lot of pushes and getting people behind them.

It is disgusting this sexual investigation was not opened until the attention got bigger and they were in the limelight, just as disgusting as showing the family nothing nor giving them any answers or apparently even conducting searches.

If this is Vanessa and she was found in the vicinity of the male soldier who went missing at an entirely different time, I would guess someone at the base has some big concerns about his own arse right now and perhaps a few others who assist in covering.

Just listening to the press conference above and heard there were no cameras "that day". Wow, how original. How many cases have we seen that in... And at a military base no less. No check-in data, etc. Wow so convenient. Smh.

I had a hinky feeling when I heard another soldier was missing. And why no cameras? I'm with you on that one! I hope they're already installed now!

Glad you pointed these details out because they were the ones standing out in my mind as well!
I wonder if the surveillance was active/inactive during the time that the other soldier met his unfortunate fate..
Stating that there were cameras "that day" causes me to wonder if they were installed but not active, or were no cameras yet installed in that area??..
Did someone know of this lack of surveillance within this area and take advantage of it?

A US military base that periodically turns off/disables security cameras?
The movie A Few Good Men comes to mind...

Yes, and I may have gotten it wrong but it sounded to me like they have cameras but were not using them that particular day or something? It sounded like a question that was answered to the family but still vague maybe...? I can't tell you how many cases either lack of cameras in the type of facility or one day of them not working still bothers me. Serenity Dennard, why none? Christina Morphew, conveniently not working, many dash cam or LE video not used or disappears, or did not work, or more.

My memory is so bad with some things when one reads so much crime and more but I think I have said before, there is something about this facility that rings bells in my head. And the faint glimmer I have is that other women have disappeared or reported sexual harassment or assault and a touch may hit the news and then bam, it's gone and one never hears of it again. I may have my military bases mixed up but I don't think so, I do remember this, thinking way back when there is a serious problem there with a senior officer and perhaps others in helping him cover up that goes deep.

I am so glad this family has some backing now from some higher up people. They tried and tried and could get nowhere. ONLY now that it is going to instead of being small in the news, get bigger and some higher people are involved and notice is on them did we get a search for instance. And look! One missing soldier was already found. Lo and behold.
