Foul play suspected in the disappearance of two Kansas women whose vehicle was found in Oklahoma

Foul play is suspected in the disappearance of two Kansas women whose vehicle was found abandoned in the Oklahoma Panhandle last weekend, authorities said Friday.

Veronica Butler, 27, and Jilian Kelley, 39, of Hugoton, Kansas, were driving to Oklahoma to pick up Butler’s children to attend a March 30 birthday party in Kansas but never showed up, Tom Singer, the pastor of the church Butler attended, told KOCO-TV.

Hunter McKee, an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokesperson, said investigators believe foul play led to women’s disappearance based on what was found their vehicle.

McKee declined to say what evidence was found in the vehicle, citing the continuing investigation.

The sheriff’s office has turned the investigation over to the OSBI.

“We’re still looking into where and when they were last seen,” McKee said.

McKee said no children are missing.

Investigators are searching the area in Texas County around where the vehicle was found, according to McKee, about 11 miles (18 kilometers) south of Elkhart, Kansas, on the Oklahoma-Kansas state line.

Court documents reveal suspect admitted responsibility for death of missing Kansas women

Newly obtained court documents by KSN reveal that one of the suspects in the case of missing Kansas women, Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley, admitted responsibility for their deaths.

In the motions to hold defendants Cole Twombly, Cora Twombly, Tad Cullum and Tifany Adams without bail, it is stated in part that Adams “did provide a recorded statement to law enforcement indicating her responsibility for the death of the deceased.”

What Adams said in the recorded statement was not revealed in the court documents.

Court documents state, “Now faced with the consequences of a sentence of death or life in prison, the defendants would be willing to do anything since they have shown to be willing to commit capital murder in order to limit Veronica’s visitation.”

The newly obtained court documents also revealed that the bodies of Butler and Kelley were found where the burner phones were disposed of – on a pasture below a dam that Cullum rents for cattle grazing. The property, which is located 8.5 miles from the location where the women disappeared and where Butler’s vehicle was found, had fresh dirt work done.

“The area of disturbed dirt was excavated and the bodies of two individuals were discovered,” the court document states.

The court documents also stated the two died of foul play but did not go into details.

Prosecutors say there were many attempts made to take Veronica’s life. Other court documents show the years of turmoil between Veronica and Tiffany, but efforts to secure a protection order did not get approved by a judge.

But no arrest? He was actually mentioned as being there at the murder site.

Some YTer is claiming he's on the run, but being a YTer I tend to take that with a grain of salt.
it depends on what YTer you watch. They run the gamut as do FB pages. etc. so not sure what you mean by that. There are so many serious and retired LE and active attys on YT it is not even funny. There are also your average Joes and pop up iditos that get all nuts over one case start a channel and disappear. Most responsible ones and probably some shady ones run the gamut an are on FB, ,YT, Instagram, Tik Tok and more. So I am just wondering respectfully who you are looking at that you'd take it with a grain of salt? Probably not the ones I watch nor on FB etc either which I don't go on.

Linda, Melanie Little, Scott Reisch, Nate Eaton, Justin Lum, and a ton more and now Vinnie. Nancy Grace, etc. are ALL on YT. Fox News, News Nation, every single one. Law and Crime. CBS. AS well as all the shows.

So no offense but I don't get what you mean.

And I won't even start with ever single news station almost who has learned they had better keep up with the entire change in times before it is too late and some LE as well, ACTIVE ones.

Why one SM site and some are more SM than YT like FB is considered better sourcing I don't know but just saying...

But yes why was he not arrested or is he on the run? Personally I've seen none of that as havent had time to look elsewhere on this case but apparently you have and by some Yter that you don't trust. So some average idiot trying to do a channel that you took a look at?

I'm being honest, I have done that over time with a few but then when disgusted leave them after giving a chance. Not on FB etc. though. I have seen some BAD ones but the ones that don't end up disappearing after one certain case or some such not so much. There are a TON of good solid people on YT.

He dug that hole the day before.

Considering what's going on in my county, I can kind of understand. Professionally, it doesn't look good.
Yeah, but usually municipal judges don’t have anything to do with major crime. At least they don’t where I live. I think the closest he ever has are cases with DUIIs. Maybe it’s different over there.

Not here either. They handle some minor stuff and are I won't say a joke but not any big judge and if bigger it goes over to county. Some traffic, maybe a kid shoplifting in the city, parking tickets. NO CRIMES that could be CHARGED and tried to speak of.

I watched about half of this or more while it was being streamed live last night. Has a lot of tidbits in it and put some things together that I wasn’t sure about.

One thing that they brought up in the live was about that judge. They think he might’ve gotten fired because he said he was friends with one of the perps. I don’t know about that? I have a feeling they were already having problems with him before this even happened.

Another part of that live that was interesting to me was that they said in the courtroom the current judge didn’t say anything when the families were screaming out at the perps. The judge let them express their pain.

It would be hard in most rural areas for a judge to not know most defendants. If they were rescued or dismissed for only this reason, there would never be trials in those counties.

(NewsNation) — The four suspects jailed in the killings of two Kansas mothers are being kept apart from one another at Oklahoma’s Texas County jail, the county sheriff told NewsNation’s “Banfield.”

Tifany Adams, 54; her boyfriend Tad Cullum, 43; Cora Twombly, 44; and her husband Cole Twombly, 50, have each been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping and one count of conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree, of Veronica Butler, 27, and Jilian Kelley, 39.

Texas County Sheriff Matt Boley provided details on procedures at the 96-bed facility, which currently houses 47 inmates — 36 men and 11 women.

The jail features separate sections for men and women, with the men’s side consisting of six pods, each with varying numbers of beds, while the women’s side comprises two pods. Women inmates have access to both dormitory-style accommodations and individual cells, with shared shower facilities.

Cullum and Cole Twombly are deliberately held on opposite sides of the men’s section, separated by four pods, to prevent any potential contact between them. Similarly, one of the women, either Tifany or Cora, is housed in a holding cell typically reserved for temporary stays during processing, while the other resides in a designated women’s pod, ensuring they do not interact.

No visitors are allowed except for attorneys and spiritual advisers. Family and friends must communicate through video calls on provided iPads.

The jail provides three meals per day, which Boley described as really good quality. Inmates can also purchase snacks, hygiene items, board games and office supplies from an online commissary service.

Recreational time is limited to an indoor “cement room” with a metal grate roof allowing views of the outdoors. The jail lacks an exercise facility.

The suspects arrested were officially arraigned in an Oklahoma court Wednesday, when a judge denied each of them bond. The quartet, allegedly part of an anti-government religious group called “God’s Misfits,” have become central figures in the investigation.

I think I'd consider housing them out to other counties. 100 beds isn't huge and it must take some real effort to ensure they can't get word to each other, ever pass each other or anything else. I'm not criticizing whatsoever, just think it would be a more secure way to keep them apart. without a lot of extra work for staff to keep FOUR people of 47 inmates from encountering one another, even considering the men's and women's areas are separate.

I'm unaware of any county facility I've ever seen having an outdoor area for inmates. Our old one nor new one does and of the many I've seen none do. They aren't (or weren't meant) to be where prisoners are housed for years. That's prisons.

I can't get over how dumb these people where. First they are going to be the first looked at because of the history and because of where the women were headed and what they were there for but then the dump them on the friend's land, dump their burner phones there (I am sure they felt smart with burner phones)) and leave it obvious fresh dirt work was done. Duh. And add to it tthat their teenage daughter, the heroine, knew all about everything and they stupidly assumed she woudln't tell or was just like them and clearly she isn't. Beyond damned dumb. Whatever judge denied a restraining order out to be shot himself (not seriously). They are so wrong when they make crimes in domestics DIFFERENT than the crimes they ARE in anything else. That needs to change. Imo. Or family court, domestics, etc., a crime is STILL a crime. Or maybe more so SHOULD BE and treated the same and under the same statutes.

The leaving the burner phones with the bodies and using those burner phones right up to the time of tossing them was brilliant🤣

Well yeah I mean they were burner phones and they figured no one would ever know who was on them much less that they were on one of the very likely suspect's property with the bodies. They re still likely dumbfounded at how LE figured this all out. I know gma confessed but I think that was after they had them in a bit of a corner wasn't it

Regardless, yes BRILLIANT.

God's misfits after all. He didn't name selves that they did. They are misfits--they don't fit with being a decent, law abiding, moral person nor one who tries to use their smarts (none) for the right reasons.

Were they all ready to go to prison for life over this? If so, and it mattered that much to them get rid of her (friend was just necesssary), then I guess being dumb isn't the biggest thing nor is having a good plan. However, it would seem not or they would have just shot her in a courtroom and went to prison for life instead of all this plotting through the years. So that brings me back to dumb.

And I'd kind of doubt she wanted to leave her grandkids entirely alone forever so that to would play into they thought they were brilliant. You know maybe it wasn't even all about the kids but she was afraid what they'd tell on them if with their mom spending time. I mean the teenager daughter knew... How old were these kids again? I mean they've got a drug addict son, kids' father, a heroine of an "aunt" and a group of people practicing some weird sh*t and probably on something themselves. So how good were they treated? Daughter saw a life of all this stuff and told of it.
