Foul play is suspected in the disappearance of two Kansas women whose vehicle was found abandoned in the Oklahoma Panhandle last weekend, authorities said Friday.

Veronica Butler, 27, and Jilian Kelley, 39, of Hugoton, Kansas, were driving to Oklahoma to pick up Butler’s children to attend a March 30 birthday party in Kansas but never showed up, Tom Singer, the pastor of the church Butler attended, told KOCO-TV.

Hunter McKee, an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokesperson, said investigators believe foul play led to women’s disappearance based on what was found their vehicle.

McKee declined to say what evidence was found in the vehicle, citing the continuing investigation.

The sheriff’s office has turned the investigation over to the OSBI.

“We’re still looking into where and when they were last seen,” McKee said.

McKee said no children are missing.

Investigators are searching the area in Texas County around where the vehicle was found, according to McKee, about 11 miles (18 kilometers) south of Elkhart, Kansas, on the Oklahoma-Kansas state line.

Well yeah I mean they were burner phones and they figured no one would ever know who was on them much less that they were on one of the very likely suspect's property with the bodies. They re still likely dumbfounded at how LE figured this all out. I know gma confessed but I think that was after they had them in a bit of a corner wasn't it

Regardless, yes BRILLIANT.

God's misfits after all. He didn't name selves that they did. They are misfits--they don't fit with being a decent, law abiding, moral person nor one who tries to use their smarts (none) for the right reasons.

Were they all ready to go to prison for life over this? If so, and it mattered that much to them get rid of her (friend was just necesssary), then I guess being dumb isn't the biggest thing nor is having a good plan. However, it would seem not or they would have just shot her in a courtroom and went to prison for life instead of all this plotting through the years. So that brings me back to dumb.

And I'd kind of doubt she wanted to leave her grandkids entirely alone forever so that to would play into they thought they were brilliant. You know maybe it wasn't even all about the kids but she was afraid what they'd tell on them if with their mom spending time. I mean the teenager daughter knew... How old were these kids again? I mean they've got a drug addict son, kids' father, a heroine of an "aunt" and a group of people practicing some weird sh*t and probably on something themselves. So how good were they treated? Daughter saw a life of all this stuff and told of it.

They thought they were smart enough to get by with it and probably thought that they had the important people on their side to keep it quiet.

Yeah there's a bit of that there too it has sounded like. the important people thing. Maybe more need to go down or at least lose jobs and face public shame.

So who is Paul Grice and the connection? This isn't dad is it, or is it? Can't recall if I heard his name. Thought I had and doesn't sound right. For those that I know do the rumor mill or some SM just asking as even if not stated by LE, I am sure it is out there and known who he is to them.

Oklahoma prosecutors charge fifth member of anti-government group in Kansas women’s killings

Paul Jeremiah Grice, 31, was charged in Texas County with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder.

Grice told an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agent that he participated in the killing and burial of Veronica Butler, 27, and Jilian Kelley, 39, of Hugoton, Kansas, according to an arrest affidavit filed in the case.

Grice is being held without bond at the Texas County Detention Center in Guymon, a jail official said. Court and jail records don’t indicate if Grice has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.

A fifth suspect made an appearance in an Oklahoma courtroom on Wednesday for the murders of two women from southwest Kansas.

A hearing was held for 31-year-old Paul Grice of Keyes, Oklahoma on two counts of first degree murder and kidnapping, and conspiracy to commit murder. He said he could not pay for an attorney and would need a public defender. A judge denied bond during a hearing in Texas County District Court in Guymon, Oklahoma.

All five suspects in the murder and kidnapping of Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelley were in court Wednesday for a status hearing.

Tifany Adams, Tad Cullum, Cole Twombly, Cora Twombly and Paul Grice are charged with two counts of murder, two counts of kidnapping, and one count of conspiracy to commit murder.

On Friday, Adams' attorney filed three motions, including one asking for the judge to issue a gag order and to seal the warrants.

The defense argued doing so is necessary to "avoid excessive publicity that could further taint the jury pool."

Gag order issued in Texas County double murder case​

At today’s hearing, the judge denied the motion to seal the search warrants in the case.

However, the judge also ordered a motion to withhold the full medical examiner’s report for six months, however the summary report will be available once completed, NewsChannel10 has requested that report.

The judge also issued a gag order in the case because of extensive local and national coverage.

Attorneys believe that this will help mitigate media coverage and help with the jury pool and venue to ensure a fair trial.

“They may have silenced them, but they aren’t gonna silence us, we are going to continue to fight for them and we want justice for our girls,” said Arcela Garcia, Veronica’s aunt.

Discovery motions were also ordered, giving the defense council access to evidence.

The next court appearance is a discovery status hearing scheduled for June 19 at 9:00 a.m.
