Foul play suspected in the disappearance of two Kansas women whose vehicle was found in Oklahoma

Foul play is suspected in the disappearance of two Kansas women whose vehicle was found abandoned in the Oklahoma Panhandle last weekend, authorities said Friday.

Veronica Butler, 27, and Jilian Kelley, 39, of Hugoton, Kansas, were driving to Oklahoma to pick up Butler’s children to attend a March 30 birthday party in Kansas but never showed up, Tom Singer, the pastor of the church Butler attended, told KOCO-TV.

Hunter McKee, an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokesperson, said investigators believe foul play led to women’s disappearance based on what was found their vehicle.

McKee declined to say what evidence was found in the vehicle, citing the continuing investigation.

The sheriff’s office has turned the investigation over to the OSBI.

“We’re still looking into where and when they were last seen,” McKee said.

McKee said no children are missing.

Investigators are searching the area in Texas County around where the vehicle was found, according to McKee, about 11 miles (18 kilometers) south of Elkhart, Kansas, on the Oklahoma-Kansas state line.

That article has a lot of info in it. Wow. Another cult of some sort. I have no words.

I'm shocked that they didn't throw the burner phones in with the bodies🤣
They actually did didn't they? Seriously. Or right there at the same spot of the land. I recall it and thinking how DUMB are you. Maybe not in the freezer but in the hole or some such?

I'm pretty sure they found them on the property but not right there. They used them right there though and they all turned off together right there. Should have at least tossed the phones somewhere before going to the exact spot with them all still on. Geniuses these guys are.

yeah not sure, just recall it was the same place basically but unsure if in freezer, hole, nearby or just on that property. we read it and know, I just don't recall HOW close on the property or in WHAT spot.

yes regular Einsteins the misfits are LMAO.

They found something and I'm thinking it was the phones near or below a dam of a pond on the property.

I don't have the time or wherewithal to look but I recall well that the burner phones were stupidly found about where the bodies were, at least on the same property. It was said in some article, by LE or news somewhere in this thread. I'm only not sure if in the freezer,, I want to say in the hole (we only recently learned of freezer) or nearby on the ground.

But yes for sure ON the property. I recall it well as I remember the thought I had of their sheer stupidity. And maybe we weren't given detail just both on the property or thereabouts. Bodies AND PHONES found.

No argument on this one about the sheer geniuses they are lol. Not. We agree.

I have to chuckle that I think they thought they planned all perfectly... Burner phones. Check. A FREEZER. Seals, Contains. No smell they probably figured and if buried even better... But the obvious? LOL. Good Lord they are stupid. First, going to be primary suspect. Custodial issues and the women were coming to get/see the kids. Second, burner phones are NOT uncrackable. THIRD you have a daughter that knows way too much that you apparently assume thinks like you and is evil but not the case. So much more... and we don't know the half yet of their stupidity but it is already off the charts...

I don't know about you, but I get the Benny Hill theme running through my head when thinking about it.

Well thank you, it was not but it is NOW lol.

Medical examiner’s report still missing in Kansas moms case

Defendants accused of killing two Kansas mothers appeared in court Wednesday as attorneys noted a key piece of evidence is still missing from discovery.

At one point, nine deputies, seven defense attorneys and three prosecutors were present in the courtroom. All five defendants were also present in what the judge called a “physical arrangement [that] is unprecedented in this courtroom’s history and this courthouse.” The courtroom had been outfitted to accommodate all the defendants, using space in the jury box to sit all those who needed to be present.

Defense attorneys complained to the judge about not having received evidence from the prosecution as part of the discovery process. There was also concern about the fact that discovery would be coming from multiple agencies, including the FBI, which can be difficult in state cases.

Defense attorneys expressed concerns that the lack of discovery would not give them enough time to review evidence prior to a preliminary hearing. The prosecutors noted that the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is likely turning over four terabytes of discovery and will produce two terabytes prior to the preliminary hearing.

One key piece of evidence that has not been received is the medical examiner’s report on how the two women died, with both defense attorneys and prosecutors saying they did not have the final report. According to prosecutors, that information is expected in two to three weeks.

What’s next for the case?

The judge appears to be set to proceed with all five defendants present at every hearing as long as it can be done safely. Once defense counsel has a reasonable amount of time to prepare, a date for the preliminary hearing will be set.

While all defendants may have a joint preliminary hearing, the judge noted that any defendant who wishes to have a separate hearing can file a motion to do so. The next status hearing is set for July 17.

I still can't get over how stupid this many people were. Not a brain cell amongst the bunch. This was cracked fast and the bodies found even because of their stupidity and obviously also they'd be of course prime suspects to at least look at right out of the gate. Even without the daughter doing the right thing and telling, this would have been cracked in no time flat.

I've wondered in the Daybell case and now am wondering in this one - Are they so wrapped up in their religious cult that they think true justice can't touch them? Maybe that's the explanation as to why they leave so many loose ends.

I can see and believe that in some cases as perhaps that plays in. In Chad's case I don't buy it because I don't believe Chad believed one word he was spewing or touting and I'm unsure Lori did either but she MAY HAVE, I'm convinced he did not. I think he thought himself invincible as he turned all phone and such things off and was always (it seems) hands off while others took the hit and did the dirty work... I do not believe he believed on word of what he "preached". I see them as total cons. Lori MAY have bought some of it, not as sure there but I am on him. Don't know if you've watched Part 1 with Agent Hart but he said similar and you know I've always thought such. He mentioned that Lori never paused or hesitated when it came to the kids and in fact she asked CHAD if he had a foolproof plan for the kids yet and pushed it so to speak. I paraphrase.

I think like many a criminal, they thought cops dumb, changed jurisdictions, used burner phones, Lori had talked her way out of sh*t before and thought selves invincible in that way and I think were entirely surprised when the whole kid thing turned big. And she blames Kay to this day I'd bet on it. If not for Kay AND the fact they were looking for the jeep due to an attempted shooting at Brandon, would any of this ever have been found out or have come together...?

Now the people in this case, I have no idea. They sound an entirely different type.... And yeah maybe they did feel justice couldn't touch them...

I think in the end though they are all dumb criminals who mistakenly think themselves smarter than everyone else... Jmo though.

POSSIBLY the rest of the bunch of Chad and Lori may have believed in what was spewed/taught them and thought they were invincible because Chad hold them all so but I'm not even convinced of that...

Like they said at the trials, this was about sex, money and power was it... It wasn't about religion, that was what was used.

I do believe what you say here and that some are that way and get such delusions, convinced they are chosen and special and believe selves to be invincible. Not so sure Chad or Lori were really about our that at all. It was all an excuse to do the evil things they wanted to do imo. Or get others to do them. But then that's messed up in and of itself no doubt and who can understand such minds or ways...

This case though, I'm not as sure. We lived Daybell for years and saw so much that my opinion is very solidified in my mind but this one, I have no idea. God's Misfits, perhaps they did believe such...

I should add though that when one preaches falsehood and lies constantly about their specialness they can start to believe their own b.s. and maybe that's Chad to a point...
