Thoughts on this other female's hair that was found. Could it be a hair from Karen from when she was in the house that was found on a later victim? Did they actually say a woman who lived in the house or a woman who was just in the house? Eg a visitor or previous victim.
I am pretty sure it was said a woman he was living with or that was living with him. I and some even speculated it could be his mom or sister but I think it was clarified after that to be no, another woman like someone he dated and lived with before Asa, I can't swear to this last part but believe so.... it wouldn't be Karen's, this came from someone who lived with him, this hair. And that also means and I think it sounds like they either found her or she came forward and they have verified she was there and lived there. I do still wonder about it being mom or sister but I'd have to go look, I think Tierney said enough that it seems it was a gf or some such woman CB was with prior to Asa...

I still find it VERY odd the hairs of three different women were found on the victims. I know that can go on from having them in the home and such but so few of his. I get theirs may be longer than his. But he also likely kept them in the basement where you'd think the women weren't allowed unless involved. And the way he wanted to change plans and throw cops off and read the books of the profiler, and made notes, etc., I have to wonder if he didn't plant them so to speak to really confuse any investigation or so he hoped....

Ok I have found a link that has the 37 page bail application in it and also has the detail of the female hair found on Costilla. Not sure if this was posted before.

"The court document detailed how a female hair found on Costilla's mutilated body “share a common base at all compared positions" to a witness who once lived at Heuermann's residence in Massapequa."

yes and that one could be mother or even sister. however, I think it was somewhat more clarified to seem like it was a gf but not really directly said... when people were wondering if it couldn't have been his mom's hair, sister's etc... they were all raised here, lived there, etc. But I think it was clarified after or hinted at, very cryptic, that his was a gf or some such and not mom, etc.

They have put a lot out in this case but we have not seen 1 percent of what they know or have imo.

and I'd also reiterate this is the THIRD DIFFERENT female hair of someone connected to CB found on a victim while his have been found, but less so by far.... I find it odder than sh*t. Gives me many a thought...

I am thinking it could also have been his first wife's hair. They married in 1990 but I am not sure when they divorced so she could have still been married to him and living there in '93.

I always had the impression that was the only or main time in his life he lived elsewhere than the 'family" home, when he was married to her or perhaps in his young adult years. MAYBE they'd protect her and she would not want to be assassinated like Asa and V but she has spoke out as far as his penchant for prostitutes, etc. I don't think it's her for some reason.

Whoever it is the women's hairs keep getting found on DIFFERENT victims more than his. And different women, THREE now that he lived with whose hairs were found on various victims and more than one as well. I mean three as far as the women who lived with him...

I think it more likely to be mom or sister then the ex wife but again I think Tierney said something when wondered that made it a gf or woman he was living with before Asa and not a family member. I could be wrong but seem to recall that because my first thought was his mom or sister but then something aid made me think it was not the case...

I have just come across this new link which is a recap of the case from CBS.

Opened it but haven't had time to read past the first part yet. The first part ticks me off a bit wherein it talks as if some extensive search was done for Shannon. I don't recall it that way at all, they were under fire for making little effort until much later after family and public outcry and grumbling. Not saying news got it wrong but the "story" by LE like some major effort occurred is false as I recall it.

Well it was their searching for her that caused all the others to be found - that bit is true. Not exactly sure why she wasn't found sooner but perhaps she wasn't actually there at the start of the search.

The interesting thing about the Gilgo 4 is that burner phones were used to contact them. The tragedy is that it took so long to track down the murderer.

Looking for Shannon did result in all the other finds. I recall and remember that from that. The way I remember it is was the whole Burke administration though and they did not search or search had until all those months later and then only imo because some flack was being given and people yelling a bit. It might not have been quite the online thing today is but her family kept on it, etc.

All of this imo big time was due to him and just that these were prostitutes who went missing and THAT is the ones that were reported missing, not all were right?

And even if they were in some cases, families didn't know where they last were. Shannon was NOT stupid in that she let people know, she had a driver, etc.

I will never believe what to this day is tried to be said there. I know what I hear in her voice now that we have he 911 call which was withheld and kept for YEARS I think even after a night court order to release it. They can talk schizhprenia or drugs, some women know exactly that something more was going on and that wasn't it. IMHO.

And the guy called her sister didn't he? How the heck did he just happen to have her phone number? They have never properly explained what that was all about.

They need to reopen Shannon's case and take another look.

Well CB called someone's sister and friend didn't he? I thought at one time that someone had called Shannon's sister but I had that confused I believe and people, you perhaps, told me it was some other victim's family or friend/s called. The doctor wasn't it called Mari Gilbert and said he ran a home for wayward girls or some such and didn't that just get talked of in depositions John Ray took or some such?

Sp who do YOU mean by "the guy" here, LE doesn't think Shannon was murdered... Are you confusing it as I did somewhat?

Shannon's case should BE undetermined at minimum and should remain open/be reopened, I 100% agree and think almost all do out there except for some LE types, retired and current.

I will never believe Shannon just died by accident alone any more than I will ever believe Alex Cox died of natural causes. Nope. At MINIMUM she was chased imo and probably worse at maximum...

Peter Hacket, I believe his name was, and yes he spoke to Shannon's mother and mentioned the wayward girls home, but denied it for years, I believe. How did he even have her phone number? I also have a feeling he was an ex police surgeon or something wasn't he? CB called several victims' relatives too, but used the victims phones to do it. I don't know how Hackett contacted Shannon's relatives. I don't believe LE properly investigated, for whatever reason.

This is a transcript of a podcast about Hackett that came out prior to the arrest of CB.

New Evidence in the Long Island Serial Killer Case

April 02, 2022

Suffolk County Police have recently released a photograph of a black leather belt embossed with the initials “WH” or “HW”. The belt is believed to belong to the Long Island Serial Killer and was recovered during the early stages of the investigation. Police are asking for anyone who recognizes the evidence to contact them or post a tip to their website.

In the spring of 2010, a 24-year-old online escort named Shannan Gilbert went missing after placing a frantic phone call to 911 while out on a date in the Oak Beach area. She fled from the client’s house and was seen by witnesses running from door to door seeking help. Residents of the neighbourhood were afraid to let the panicked young woman inside of their homes but offered to call 911 on her behalf.

Shannon went missing that night and her skeletal remains were found over six months later, on the North side of Ocean Parkway. The discovery lead police to search the area where they found the bodies of four more women buried relatively close to one another in the marsh on Gilgo beach, leading them to believe that the area was a dumping ground for a local serial killer. Suffolk county police did not believe Gilbert’s death was a murder or was in any way linked to the suspected serial killer and ruled her death as accidental, proposing that the young woman had, in a state of confusion, drowned in the marsh or died of exposure to the elements. A second autopsy was performed on the remains revealing that the hyoid bone in her neck was broken, an injury indicative of strangulation.

The client Gilbert had gone to see that night was later named as Joseph Brewer. He was later cleared as a suspect.
Two days after Gilbert went missing, her mother received a strange phone call from a Dr. Peter Hackett, a neighbour of Joseph Brewer. Hackett told Gilbert’s mother that he ran a home for wayward girls and that Shannon had come to his home that night, so he had given her some medication to calm her down. Shannon’s mother asked him where he had gotten her phone number, to which he told her that any girl who stayed at his home had to provide emergency contact details. He called a couple of days later to deny everything he had previously said and denied running a home for wayward girls. He would go on to tell investigators that he never made the calls but was later presented with phone records showing that he did. He too was cleared as a suspect in the case as police said he often fabricated things and tended to “insert himself” into high profile cases such as Gilberts disappearance. The victims family remained suspicious and Shannon’s mother even told the media that Gilbert’s home was so close to the location of her daughters body that the police actually took her into Hackett’s home and stood her on the balcony to point out the exact spot where they found Shannon’s remains.

One by one the remains of the women were identified as online escorts who had been working in and around the area. One of the women, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, had been missing for three years. The 25-year-old went missing after leaving a motel in New York in 2007 and was never heard from again.

Another victim went missing after walking out of her apartment.

25-year-old Megan Waterman went missing from the Holiday Inn she was living at in the summer of 2010 and Amber Costello also went missing from her home just three months later. All women had posted adverts for their escort services on Craigslist.

A further six bodies would be found after police expanded their search out 16 miles towards the Nassau County border. The additional remains of four women, a mother and child and an Asian male wearing female clothing were discovered. Opinions were split over whether it was the work of a single serial killer or the dumping ground for multiple killers. Some of the remains were linked to torsos and limbs that had washed up on beaches or been discovered years prior, while some of the victims were fully intact and others had been decapitated, dividing opinions about whether it was the work of a single serial killer who had changed his M.O or whether it was the work of two different killers operating in the same area. Over time the theory that the murders were linked to a lone serial killer became the predominant one and earned the killer his nickname: The long Island serial killer, or LISK.

There have been a few suspects over the years, including convicted killer John Bittrolff, who was convicted of the murders of two sex workers in the early 90’s and lived in Manorville, Suffolk County, just a few miles from where parts of two Long Island Serial Killer victims were found. At the time he was working as a carpenter and was later arrested in 2014 thanks to DNA evidence.

The identity of the Long Island Serial killer is still unknown, but those working on the case are confident that he can be identified and that the case will be solved.

Yes it was Hackett and all I can figure is this was back when and her number, land line perhaps(?)was in the phone book or some such... And yes, it was Hackett and recently came up in I think civil depos that John Ray took of him and he has been forced to admit to that call that he DENIED. Now WHY would you do that or even make SUCH a call....?

Not sure about ex police surgeon, rings a slight bell but I wouldn't swear to it...

Yes CB had the numbers on the victims' own phones...

LE did not do ****. For Shannon or her family and imo they STILL aren't, the case should be OPEN and UNDETERMINED.

This call alone make him a suspect AND he said he gave her calming medication, another thing to add suspicion and yet they just go on to say they cleared him. YET police took Mom into his home onto his balcony to see the spot where Shannon's remains were found THAT close to Hackett's. Of course it also says Brewer was cleared a suspect. With both, HOW THE F SO? This sh*t ALONE makes her death suspicious. And what was Hackett doing, getting some thrill with a day or two calling mom when she had been there begging for help...? No, nothing at all suspicious about that. They say he had a habit of fabricating and inserting himself into investigaitons well, ya know what, when have we ever been told of other times and what he DID, SERIOUSLY? Nada. And he's a doctor.

People are being protected in Shannon's or someone is. Not SURE it is CB or relates but it's about the same as not to date having an answer about the COP of Ray's witness who was dating one and they went to CB's and CB2's home to swing with Karen Vergata along.... WHAT is the big secret there, is it true or false? Or is it quiet because it is a COP?

Hackett sounds almost like he's claiming Shannon came there because she was a wayward girl and he gave her calming meds... Something is REALLY OFF there and always has been...

This recent article discusses both Valerie Mack and Shannon Gilbert.

The part of the article about Mack and Gilbert is copied below.

While Gilbert was not named in the new court documents, her family's attorney, John Ray told Newsweek on Thursday, he still believes she plays a major role within the murders.

"I expect that Shannan should be an active part in the task force investigation," Ray said. "It's hard to know who the DA is going to pull up. There's quite a number of victims that haven't been called up already."

Ray also pointed to a variety of other cases - both in Long Island and across the country - that Heuermann may have a connection to.

"Those are just some," Ray said. "There are other people that seem to qualify in Long Island."

Ray's office, which is based in New York, has been receiving tips and calls throughout the day as Heuermann faced additional charges on Thursday.

"As the task force is not giving up and they did a great job, I and my staff are not giving up either," Ray said. "We're going forward and hope to contribute to the cause."

The DA said they are looking into whether Heuermann is a suspect in other Suffolk County killings. He said his office is also still going through the large amount of electronic devices found at Heuermann’s home, including laptops, smart phones, hard drives, tablets and more.

Who is Shannon Gilbert?

The murder of Gilbert is riddled with mystery. Her family is convinced it was homicide.

Gilbert, 24, disappeared in Oak Beach, a quiet gated community off of the Ocean Parkway, on May 1, 2010. The 23-year-old sex worker was meeting with a client, Joseph Brewer.

Law enforcement first started searching along Ocean Parkway after Gilbert vanished in 2010. The hunt for a possible serial killer commenced when 11 sets of human remains were discovered along a property on Gilgo Beach in Suffolk County.

The search first turned up the remains of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Lynn Costello and Maureen Brainard-Barnes—also known as "The Gilgo Four."

Prior to Thursday, Heuermann was already facing charges for the Gilgo Four.

Suffolk County detectives said for a while that Gilbert was not one of Heuermann's victims. Suffolk County Police Department said Gilbert's death was not a murder and was "most likely an accident."

Her sister, Sherre, intensely disagreed for years, pointing to 911 calls.

Three phone calls to 911, including one that was more than 21-minutes long by Gilbert, took place the night Gilbert went missing. She initially called from inside Brewer's home shortly before 5 a.m.

"There is somebody after me," she tells the dispatcher multiple times. "Somebody's after me — please," Gilbert said.

Gilbert couldn't specify where she was but said she was located on Long Island. Brewer and Michael Pak, Gilbert's driver and security, are heard telling her to go outside.

After 22 minutes and 42 seconds, the call cuts out.

A neighbor had also called 911 saying a young girl was "running around screaming."

Investigators believe Gilbert got disoriented in marsh reeds while running in the dark. Much of the marshland is impassable. Some of Gilbert's belongings were found along a path.

A private pathologist hired by the Gilbert family found insufficient evidence to confirm a cause of death. Renowned forensic pathologist Michael Baden, however, said Gilbert had suffered injuries "consistent with homicidal strangulation."

A taxi driver said in a sworn statement previously that she believes she saw Gilbert and Heuermann at the Sayville Motor Lodge. Gilbert allegedly told the cab driver that she met Heuermann on Craigslist and was promised financial assistance.

Who is Valerie Mack?

Mack, 24, was living in Philadelphia and working as an escort.

Relatives last saw her in the spring or summer of 2000 in Port Republic, New Jersey. Mack was never reported missing.

Her partial skeletal remains were found in Manorville in September 2000. More bones were found on April 4, 2011, along the Ocean Parkway.

"Valerie Mack was a little bit further into the woods compared to the other Gilgo Beach victims," according to Tierney.

Mack's body along with Costilla and Taylor's are mentioned in the new court documents to "largely coincide" with the violent, bondage and torture pornography that Heuermann collected dating back to 1994.

I don't know that Shannon is a CB victim but I entirely agree there is not enough and NOTHING to rule her death accidental or determined. And that's outrageous to this day.

I don't hear in the phone calls what LE wants us to believe, Not even close. To add to this, they resisted releasing the 911 calls for YEARS and even went against an order to do so.

Something is really up in her case and something being majorly hidden or majorly protected. Imo. And I'm not into conspiracies, especially huge ones on a local level--this isn't the JFK thing for instance were it matters nationally and on a worldwide realm.

Even IF it could be shown and it can't, to be an accident with no one involved, the oddities in it are enough with the call about running a home for wayward girls and far more. WHO DOES THAT? There's too much that can't be explained and too much resistance to leaving this even undetermined and opening it again... Re Shannon. And there was way too much resistance on releasing the 911 calls.
