10-year-old Lily Peters found dead near Wisconsin trail with bike nearby, suspected homicide *ARREST*

Oh no!! This is not exactly next door but quite close to home!! An hour or so. This doesn't happen "here"! and I mean really, it doesn't!! What in the heck!! A ten year old!! I never went into the link expecting it to even be in this state much less the upper half. No clue on who? Shows you how busy I am I never heard this or a hint of it today.

Lily Peters killing: Chippewa Falls police increase school patrols, warn parents to be vigilant

Wisconsin police announced increased patrols around schools in Chippewa Falls Tuesday, two days after a missing 10-year-old girl was murdered in the woods near the famed Leinenkugel’s brewery.

"You may notice an increased law enforcement presence around our schools," the Chippewa Falls Police Department announced on Facebook. "We will be increasing our patrol especially during drop-off and pick-up times."

"Lily’s father reported that she had not returned home from a visit to her aunt’s house in the 400 block of North Grove Street," Kelm said in a news briefing. "Officers later located a bicycle in the woods near the walking trail between the end of North Grove Street and the Leinenkugel’s brewery parking lot."

On Monday, 10-year-old Iliana Peters, also known as Lily, was found dead near a walking trail in downtown Chippewa Falls. Police are investigating her death as a homicide, but as of Tuesday morning, no one was in custody.

If you put on the layers in the above map, you will see this is a very tree lined route or part of it is. However, I can tell you there is no cover right now as it is still "winter" here if these are trees that leaf out. I assume that is the path she took, the one marked.

I don't know what happened here but I can tell you it is very much an area where most would consider their kids safe to do this but as we have learned, it just can't be counted on any longer.

This is in a general vicinity I have been up to quite a bit recently due to med appts. Chippewa Falls is not that big. Nearby Eau Claire is bigger and in Eau Claire I saw kids walking home from school alone. When I say this just doesn't happen here, it really doesn't.

Not saying these cases are related, but it did cross my mind. The fact that they don't know who did it and are warning the public to be vigilant.

Chippewa Falls to Evansdale, IA where Elizabeth Collins and Lyric Cook were killed. And to Delphi, IN where Abby and Libby were killed.

I have to tell you the very same thought crossed my mind. I mean (and you likely know too) our midstates area I mean may differ but there is like a 5 state area that is just known to most of us in life... And we all end up somewhat familiar with most of them or with relatives in various ones. I've rarely been to Indiana but I have relatives there, and in Iowa, and in MN and of course in Wisconsin and in Illinois.

That doesn't mean anything so much but what does is anyone who has grown up in these areas would feel comfortable in these nearby states or have been to them, and it just also is and they are full of a safer way of life, rural areas, smaller areas where people still trust letting their kids ride bike, walk a trail, etc... I think even if not wording it right you will know what I mean.

Her age is right, the type of area is right, etc. I also don't think someone who did what someone did to the pairs of girls just quit... They could be entirely unrelated of course, all of them in fact, even the pair of girls cases. But this kind of thing does NOT happen in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Oh it always could anywhere, no doubt...

I'm not saying they are related either, I really have no reason to think so but it sure did and does cross my mind...

We don't know much here yet, maybe it was someone closer to home or known to her so probably not related but I do get the thought...

One thing that crossed my mind or another one, in this case, is a younger perp... Mid or older teen... Like the Florida case where the 14 year old punk stabbed the schoolmate kazillions of times...

My thoughts will likely swing on whether there is a fairly quick arrest or not...

I honestly should have read farther. I never saw this one before posting what I just did. It was one of the two thoughts I had as you will see in that post. I honestly was just as heavy towards someone with girls this age as you mentioned with the IN case, etc.

So glad there is an arrest!! So one family's daughter dead and another's son probably facing life in prison is my guess now... :(

Probably going to depend on how old this juvenile perp is. I think search warrants were for the aunt's house.

Yes, it does appear to be the aunt's house. :(
Gotta wonder if it's a cousin.

Also...

The Machniks live on Grove Street, where Lily spent that Sunday, and they recall seeing her that day, as they often did when she was at her relatives.

"Between about 1 and 3 [p.m.], one of her cousins was on a hoverboard, he had his hands behind his back and she was on rollerblades holding on. And they were scooting down the street just laughing," said Jeremy.

ETA: Not accusing... Could be another kid on the block. Just noting that she was in fact seen with her cousin that day, and they took boxes of evidence from the aunt's home.

Suspect in Lily Peters case to make first court appearance

A boy arrested Tuesday in connection to the death of 10-year-old Lily Peters is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday.

A bail hearing is scheduled for 1 p.m. A spokeswoman for the Chippewa Falls District Attorney’s Office did not say what charge the suspect was booked into the jail on.

Wisconsin law requires that first-degree homicide charges initially be brought in adult court if the accused is age 10 or older. However, the case could eventually be transferred to juvenile court. It is not clear if that is the charge the suspect in this case is facing.

Haven't been able to read yet or anything at links. It could be that cousin or maybe there are others or even a visiting friend. It makes me wonder if she was killed in the woods or at the house and then the bike placed--it seems it could be either. Probably in the woods if she truly left the aunt's on the bike.

Wisconsin has a pretty good court record website system and easily navigated so records would normally be easy to find, court dates, etc. but since we have a juvenile here as well as no name, it may not be the case.

If this was an outright murder and not accident and since there is an arrest it is likely the case, my bet is the juvenile will be tried as an adult, however, that will depend on age and the crime.

I had a medical appt today near this very area, and it wasn't until I was done that I found myself passing the signs for the brewery. Very surreal being right near where this just happened. It also was a fresh physical reminder being in the area that it just isn't an area such things happen. I'm not surprised it wasn't a stranger abduction but it sure sounded at the outset as if it may have been, or at least not family. It is horrible either way, tragic for this girl and her family but it is good at least that the general public isn't in danger. Whether he would have done this to another child (others in danger) just depends on knowing what happened though and the why of it which I gather isn't known yet.

She was ten years old for the sake of God. It IS like that Florida one which came to mind or it sure seems like it a lot like it anyhow. Is there some internet group these boys get such ideas??!!! And I'm not kidding. Some of the school shootings, I wonder such things too. I know that wouldn't answer it all but I know there have been encouraged suicides rather than trying to stop one and so on.

This kid doesn't deserve his identity protected if that truly was his intent and he has said as much. It may be law but as far as I'm concerned, tough sh*t. Her name is out there and she is ten and did nothing wrong. Why should our law protect the villains? Sorry, just upset, so unfair.
