Search continues for Carlee Russell: Woman vanished in Hoover after reporting child walking on I-459

Rewards totaling $25,000 are being offered as the search continued Friday for a woman missing after she told family she was checking on a child she said was walking alone along Interstate 459 in Hoover.

An anonymous donor has put up $20,000 for the safe return of 25-year-old Carlethia Nichole “Carlee” Russell, Hoover police said Friday afternoon. Additionally, Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000.

The search began Thursday night when Hoover 911 at 9:34 p.m. received a call from Russell, said Lt. Daniel Lowe.

Russell told the dispatcher that she was near mile marker 11 when she saw a toddler walking alone on the side of I-459 between the flyover to the Galleria and Highway 150.

After calling 911, Russell stopped to check on the child and called a family member to report the same details, Lowe said. The family member lost contact with her, but the line remained open.

Officers who were already en route to the location of the initial 911 call located Russell’s vehicle and some of her belongings nearby but were unable to find her or a child in the area.

Hoover police have not received any other calls of someone missing a small child.

Authorities are not committing to any one theory in Russell’s disappearance, police said at a Friday afternoon press conference.

”We currently are investigating every possibility,’’ Lowe said. “We’re certainly leaving nothing off the table.”

Talitha Russell said her daughter left The Woodhouse Day Spa at the Summit, where she works part time, and stopped by Taziki’s at the Colonnade at 9 p.m. to pick up food for herself and her mother.

Talitha Russell talked to her daughter at 9:19 p.m. as she was leaving Taziki’s and heading to the Hoover home she shared with her parents.

At 9:36 p.m., Talitha Russell said, her daughter was on the phone with her brother’s girlfriend when she was pulling over on the side of the interstate after saying she saw a child alone that appeared to be 3 or 4 years old.

“She called 911 when she pulled over,’’ Talitha Russell said. “She got out of the car. I think she probably let her guard down thinking 911 would be there in a second.”

“My son’s girlfriend heard her asking the child, ‘Are you Ok? She never heard the child say anything but then she heard our daughter scream,’’ Talitha Russell said. “From there all you hear on her phone is background noise from the interstate.”

A Hoover police officer dispatched Carlee Russell’s report of a child alone on I-459 arrived within three minutes, Talitha Russell said.

“Her car door was open, the engine was running, and they found her phone on the ground, along with her wig and her hat,’’ Talitha Russell said. “Her purse was still in the car. Her Apple watch was in her purse and her Air Pods as well.”

Talitha Russell said a tip was called in from a trucker who was traveling along I-459 at the time of Carlee Russell’s disappearance.

“He saw her red car with the door open and he saw a grey car with a tall brown skinned man with khaki shorts on leaning over in the car,’’ Talitha Russell said.

“The police did find some tire tracks in the grass,’’ she said. “They said because it was not a muddy area, they were not able to determine what type of vehicle it could have been.”

Russell is too old to be the subject of an Amber Alert, but her family is questioning why no Ashanti Alert was issued in this case.

An Ashanti Alert deals with critical missing adult cases and became a law in 2018.

Starts at 15:15 about.

Police Chief disappointed more charges weren't filed against her. No sh*t. I'd agree. Plans to pass laws on false reports. And lay down the gauntlet. They still can't talk to her and she has not talked with them other than briefly early on. He thinks it would be better for her if she just told the truth And more.

First court date set in Carlee Russell case

Carlee Russell is scheduled to make her first appearance in court this October.

The 25-year-old is facing two misdemeanor charges after lying to police about being kidnapped and seeing a child along the side of Interstate 459 in Hoover.

Russell is scheduled to appear before a judge on October 11th in Hoover Municipal Court.

She faces charges of false reporting to law enforcement authorities and falsely reporting an incident. Each charge is a class A misdemeanor and carries up to a year in jail.

Officials said they are looking into additional charges, and they still do not know where Carlee Russell was during the 49 hours of the search.

The hearing will be at 2 p.m. The judge in the case has ordered no cameras are allowed in the courtroom or the lobby. It is unclear if Russell will be required to attend the hearing.

Well I'd hope a judge would give her the full sentence allowable since she has not come clean. She took a ROBE from work, she googled how to steal from a till, etc. She lied about a fake child who all worried was in such danger and her as well. I still think she was somewhere that involved someone else. She wasn't in a robe in the woods. She ain't the type to rough it.

I don't think LE is amused but you can bet her parents with getting her a lawyer will end up with not the worst outcome for her although there should be. Every time we even talk of her or like when I do a post i sit and feel she does not deserve a MOMENT of my time and there are REAL cases with REAL missing children etc. BUT she does deserve consequences. And she is still lying or at least omitting. Has she said where she was and have they been able to confirm it?? NO! So she hasn't learned a single lesson.

I also think there is one very likely scenario for why she'd need money, a robe and a cover story and enough time with helicopter parents etc. But even with that, someone likely assisted and picked her up, etc.

I'll leave it at that. Even with her, I won't go there and do that to someone but I think it's the most likely or one of the most likely scenarios although the overblown heroine story doesn't seem necessary so maybe not...

...and she still is wasting other people's time and money, unreal 😵‍💫🤬

...and she still is wasting other people's time and money, unreal 😵‍💫🤬
Warrants put out for her arrest shortly before she turned herself in and was released. Good. I mean good this self entitled parent spoiling witch had warrants. Was that her dream of being some heroine?

She deserves the full year or max they can give her!

To this day, she has not come clean of where she was. And who with, if anyone. She was not camping in the woods for 24 hours with snacks and a robe and googling about how to steal from her employer to go camp in the woods.

Making people worry about a fake child and on top of it about her is enough. Add to it she has NOT come clean about where she was to at least law enforcement and she deserves all they can sentence her to.

She upset people and still breathes other people's air. She used resources that are to be there for REAL emergencies. She lied and still is lying. By omission for sure.

It's almost a shame they can't charge her parents because you can count on the attorney they got her is trying to get her out of this and/or spin it or will be.

They should be leaving her to be accountable for her actions imo. They should be insisting she tell LE the truth and putting their foot down. Fat chance. Don't look for this "princess" to grow up or learn a thing any time soon. LE and the system may force a small bit on her let's hope but no one in her world will.

And yes, even talking about her is a waste of other people's time isn't it? I hate even posting about her as she is so not worth it BUT needs to be talked of so others don't go down the same ridiculous path and think such a stunt will turn them into some superstar, it will only make them a pariah. Or should.

She can come back from this IF she does the right thing but she isn't is she?

Her mugshot said everything 😄, she is so self centred that it all a big show about herself for her. And her parents seemed to have enabled her all her life and will go on like that. I also hope for max punishment. Such unpleasant persons.

I couldn't agree more. Max will only be county anyhow I'd bet on. And she doesn't have a job, was fired, go figure. At least someone gave her some consequences not that it matters to her, her parents threw her a party and hired her a lawyer. ALL unpleasant people and you put that so nicely. Unpleasant lol. But so fitting.

She is extremely full of it and she isn't going to go far in life imo. She had to make up a HUGE story to get a foot away from mommy's doorstep. And where did she find the miracle path to run right back to mommy and daddy when sh*t hit the fan with some cockamamie story about what was it, being held by a trucker and a female and being fed cheese crackers (which she bought at Target)?

It's almost funny if it wasn't such a waste of people's time, energy, resources and lives just for CARLEE RUSSELL. What a PUKE she is. Sorry but she is.

But laughable and a perfect example of what severe overindulgence creates.

The other thing that should come out of this if there is any justice? This woman (not girl) should NEVER EVER be a nurse. Let ma and pa support her and keep her in bonbons on the couch please. And when she needs to act out just leave the home and let her have her boyfriend over or whatever. Please keep her inside and away from the public. Even then she will make up some fake story on social media I'm sure.

She's disgusting.

I'd be less nasty if she came clean with LE. She hasn't and that's it for me. I doubt they are spending all resources on it as she is such a waste of air but where she was is still unknown and they have said they WILL FIND OUT. So she continues to use precious resources.

This gal should also NEVER be a mother. God forbid.

Carlee Russell’s ex-boyfriend says they had ‘little disagreement’ ahead of kidnapping hoax

The ex-boyfriend of Carlee Russell, an Alabama woman charged with faking her own abduction, said they got into a minor tiff before her disappearance.

Russell is facing two misdemeanors counts — false reporting to law enforcement and falsely reporting an incident — in connection with the kidnapping hoax, which went on to nab headlines nationwide.

In a new interview on the 205 Boyz podcast, Simmons said he found out he’d been lied to only when his family sent him clips from a press conference held by the Hoover County Police Department. During the July 25 briefing, authorities read a statement from Russell’s attorney, Emory Anthony, in which she confessed to lying about everything.

“I was mad, I was sad. I was in all types of emotions .... That’s my girl so I stuck for it. But it wasn’t making sense,” Simmons said. “If you really wanted to tell me the truth, you could have told me. Before the police conference, you could have told me.”

He also recalled taking a trip to New York with Russell a few weeks before she staged her own disappearance.

“We were having fun, taking tours,” Simmons said. “We had a little argument but nothing to kidnap yourself over. I am confused, like, ‘What happened? What made you do that?’”

Simmons said he would not discuss the matter at all moving forward, and noted that he currently has no contact with Russell.

Uh huh. Someone helped her. The whole story may have been some payback at her bf or reason to get him concerned but then again maybe it wasn't. Someone helped her. Whether knowingly or unknowingly ore there's a whole lot of Uber involved... Sarcasm as cops would know by now.

She sure lives a charmed life. A trip to NY with the bf recently before that. Doing tours, etc. From AL to NY with the bf. Just when did she work and go to school. Was this some celebration kind of trip, anniversary or something? He paid right and not her mom and dad? I mean I doubt Carlee did as she was googling how to steal from the till at work not long after...

Not sure if this is two tiffs, one shortly before she stated her disappearance and one in NY or if both are one and the same. His family had to show him clips that she had confessed and lied when he had publicly stood up for her?/ Really? She didn't tell him first PLUS he dind't follow it even though publicly standing up for her?

I DO think she may have pulled this stunt over something to do with the bf and if so, he likely knows the reason.

Who knows.

Was she trying to raise suspicions that he had something to do with her disappearance because they had a "fight" right before?

Movie based on Carlee Russell's reported disappearance released after only 2 months

Only two months after the arrest of Carlee Russell and there is already a movie about it ready for streaming on Prime Video.

It’s called "The Nurse That Saw the Baby on the Highway" and can be rented for $1.99 or bought for $4.99 for those interested in the quick-turnaround feature.

The IMDb summary states it is:

"Based on some true events, nursing student Marlee Wilson is having problems with her boyfriend and his addiction to strippers. Feeling unwanted, Marlee calls 911 to make up a story of being kidnapped by a man and baby on the highway, making problems worst!"

No, the above is not a misspelling, but a direct quote.

The movie is directed by Alvin Gray and stars Reena Ranae, Evan Carrington, and Lynae Gregg.

IMDb continues:

"Based on true/false events, nursing student Marlee Wilson has been struggling with day to day issues with school, work, and her cheating boyfriend that’s addicted to strippers. Feeling like she’s not getting enough attention from her boyfriend, she decides to fake a kidnapping, but the hoax ends up getting deeper than she ever expected bringing real life issues across the country."

The movie runs 48 minutes.

Carlee Russell charges: Will cameras be allowed in the courtroom?

The judge in the Carlee Russell false statements' case will not be allowing cameras in the courtroom.

Russell is scheduled to appear in Hoover municipal court next month charged with filing a false police report and filing a false statement to law enforcement, both Class A misdemeanors.

Birmingham station WBRC, a FOX affiliate, reports its request to record the proceeding were outright denied based upon a long-standing policy of no cameras being allowed into the courtroom there.

Hoover Municipal Court Judge T. Brad Bishop wrote to the station that the policy has been in place since before his tenure began in 1990.

"I have never allowed the use of cameras, tape recorders, or any recording devices to film, photograph, or otherwise record court proceedings," the judge wrote. "The policy remained unchanged since my appointment, and I have no intention of changing it."

Due to the interest in the case, the judge says he will release a limited number of seats within the courtroom.

A movie?? Welcome to the world we live in these days. That is asinine and ridiculous and perhaps even giving her the attention and fame the selfish little brat was after. Not to mention at no thought of damage or cost to others. Googling about stealing from an employer, etc. I will bet there is more LE has not even shared nor likely will that make it even worse.

Since when is anything considered a movie under ONE hour? Yet nothing about it would fill two.

Even commenting HERE I feel feeds her need for attention even if negative, but it is also necessary to come down on this sheer waste of LE personnel and resources looking for a missing child AND HER.

On first thought, I thouight b.s. there darned well SHOULD be cameras to OUT her but then again in another sense it then occurred to me well maybe not since she WANTS attention. No sure she wants the negative buzz but...

And I guess LE and the courts shouldn't act like this is the most important case that ever went on but on the other hand should show what could happen to a FAKE BIG ARSE STORY TELLER. But then again that could play either way. SHe doesn't deserve the focus and she ain't all that and sadly there aren't charges meaningful enough for what she should be charged with.

I wonder if the movie thing about her "bf" is true or false. And the dam*ed title is b.s. She is NO NURSE.

HOOVER, Ala. (WBMA) — Carlee Russell appeared in court Wednesday afternoon for the first time since Hoover police said she faked her own kidnapping. After Russell entered a not guilty plea, the municipal court judge found Russell guilty on two misdemeanor charges.

The judge said each charge carries six months of jail time and an $831 fine. The judge also recommended restitution of nearly $18,000 be paid.

The pretrial hearing took place at 2 p.m. at Hoover Municipal Court.

After the hearing, Russell's attorney Emory Anthony said they do not believe Russell should serve jail time but did say the restitution number was fair. Because this case involves possible jail time, the case will now go to circuit court, where a jury could have the ability to decide if Russell is guilty or not.

"I think she understands what has happened. She has apologized, I know you all said through me but that’s not good enough, but she has apologized for what transpired. I don’t want her to have any type of breakdown or anything of that nature, so we are handling her with kid gloves and make sure her mental state is just fine," said Anthony.

As far as where Russell was when she disappeared and why she faked her own kidnapping, those questions remain unanswered.

"Well, I think that is something eventually you will find out the why of it," said Anthony. "We’re not going to get into that. I think at some point in time, I don’t want to put you off, but I think at some point in time, whether we have a trial, or there’s a trial just because the state is pushing the issue, or whether or not we would go before a judge and plead blind, I don’t know right now but I wouldn’t want to talk about certain things right now if you allow me."

"We are dealing with issues with Carlee and want the best for Carlee and I think, we realize a mistake was made but we don’t want to just pile on right now."

How many times and ways is her attorney going to worry about Carlee's delicate and fragile state and not want to pile on her and make her the victim? She is bad enough but I'm not sure the people around her aren't worse. Kid gloves, uh huh. I'm not usually one to say this or believe in it but that "child' had NO gloves and needed/s a few resounding spankings with "no gloves". I'm sorry but how stupid are these people, is this attorney her uncle or something? Just listen to him.

She's a self entitled brat whose parents crippled and continue to cripple with severe enabling and lack of consequences. I don't believe this girl could do right in her life if she tried nor does she care to or see reason to as it is all about Carlee. Someone needs to tell her she is 25 not 12.

If she doesn't come clean on where she was and all details, they'd better give her that year. It will help and be the only consequence she has likely ever had in her life and she will likely do more growing up there than she ever has in her other 25 years. I am sure her parents will keep her in funds for donuts and cheez its and it won't be so bad. Separating her from her mother would actually be doing her a favor from what I've seen here.

Her attorney in all his nonsensical talk seems to be saying if necessary to stay out of jail, they will come clean about where she was. Imo it will be a lie if they do and there are two reasons they are not doing it. First of all she doesn't want anyone knowing what the truth is and second it will be a lie and she won't be able to corroborate it, landing her in more hot water, because it will be a lie.

His remark about the state pushing the issue? Well anyone who did what she did deserves this. The restitution sounds extremely light to me.

We want the best for Carlee. Carlee, Carlee, Carlee and what is best for Carlee.

The people around her need some serious mental help including her attorney but to be fair to him, he is likely being paid to say exactly what he says. Still, doesn't say much for him.

That's enough time on a case where the perp thinks she is the victim. Many do, you aren't unique Ms. Russell but in most cases there is a real victim, not a manufactured one as you made up here. However, everyone who has had to read and see your b.s. and the LE who had to investigate and deal with you (or not deal as you HID) is a victim.

I'm outa here. She ain't worth my limited time. Too bad so many LE had to give up theirs worried about a child in a diaper and HER and her Cheez Its.

One more comment. She deserves and should get the jail time EITHER way. It is deserved and any explanation at this late point shouldn't change that and it will be a lie, she shouldn't be able to use it as a bargaining chip. I"m sure it's a year in county at best probably with work release and her parents will find her some job at some new spa and pay them so she can come not work, but get her nails done and get some Cheez Its while out of jail for a few hours. Maybe they will even see some whine provided with that cheez. Yes, WHINE.
