Do we have a Jefferey Epstein thread?

Very interesting. She did a great job on this. In addition to naming all likelly "johns" she covered ones that are also very possible for reasons that make sense. She also talked about Epstein and his Florida judge, Dershowitz and more.

Two of Ghislaine Maxwell lawyers, Laura Menninger and Jeffrey Pagliuca, are owed $878,000 and their law firm is suing for the money. Her brother, Kevin, was in charge of paying the fees but is now being sued.

(The article won't allow me to copy pasta so I have precised it above.)

Not a good idea to shaft your lawyers, especially when you want them to help with your appeal.

NB. Kevin has twice been declared bankrupt and was subsequently disqualified from being a company director for 8 years. Source Wiki.

Only just saw this. Have listened to about half so far. Definitely interesting.

All finished now. There were a few people I had not heard of before. She says Judge Preska is the judge who will decide if the names get released.

She is competent so why would he be handling her money or have signed any retainer? That alone is fishy to me. Did he guarantee payment or something if she couldn't pay? She is married as well. I suspect she is protecting assets if he was to pay. But I'm not sure why a firm would necessarily do it that way. Maybe also the brother was paying or did pay some so the attorneys would take it on and then quit knowing he could file bankruptcy? If he has done it before... Seems like all of it may have been a plan or at least by one, or a discussion between them.

Wow. A million dollar defense. Maybe she should have dealt and came clean on names and places and evidence and more. But then wasn't their any hush money...? If so, she is not I guess liable for it, the brother is. Weird. Aren't they suing her too? I didn't read the article, hope to remember later. It is 3:10 a.m. here and I have yet to get to bed.

Anyhow, didn't see this one coming but even so, I'm not shocked. Or all that surprised.

That was just the bill for two of the lawyers so it would not include the main lawyer. It would not include the appeal either. She also has to pay $750k to the victims at some point but maybe that gets deferred till after the appeal. I also have an idea she is suing the Epstein estate for her legal fees.

She may well have her brother acting as a power of attorney, as she was not allowed bail. Her husband filed for divorce when she was in jail so maybe he won't be involved in any of it.

ETA I was wrong about the husband - see next post.

I found the NBC article that has more info and states the firm is suing her family, (her brother and her (ex?) husband.)

"The trial lawyers for convicted British sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell are suing her family for $878,302 in unpaid legal bills.

The Denver-based law firm Haddon, Morgan and Foreman, or HMF, also claim in a civil lawsuit that Maxwell's kin conspired to hide the true wealth of the fallen socialite, who was found guilty in December of recruiting and grooming young women to have sex with financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Named in the lawsuit with Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence in a Florida prison, are her brother Kevin and her estranged husband, Scott Borgerson, according to the 18-page complaint filed in Denver District Court.

"Ms. Maxwell breached the Fee Agreement by failing to pay for services and advanced costs within 30 days of invoicing," the complaint states. "Ms. Maxwell is therefore liable to HMF for the unpaid balance, plus applicable interest and costs of collection."

There was no immediate response to the lawsuit from Kevin Maxwell or Borgerson, and the law firm did not respond to an email seeking comment.

Maxwell, who had previously hired the law firm to represent her in civil cases brought by Epstein victims, retained Haddon, Morgan and Foreman to defend her after she was arrested in July 2020 and accused of helping Epstein recruit and abuse four underage girls, mostly in the 1990s."

She is good imo. Easy to listen to and interesting and she really puts the work into it. I don't watch her a LOT as I tend to watch things or current cases (not that this isn't but Maxwell is convicted, etc.) and she also covers a lot of other cases than necessarily the ones of the moment. I do really like her and how she does a show.

I posted it because I felt it interesting and worth watching in this case. And we had recently been talking of such. Glad you agree. She isn't shy to go there with names either although she does stress the 'allegedly" when necessary.

Claiming he conspired to hide her true wealth. I'd have trouble believing she wasn't part of that and "in the know" and I wonder if they say the same about the husband, I wouldn't doubt it nor would I doubt they did all they could to protect assets both of his and hers OR hide them. Not accusing, just speculating it seems likely.

Maxwell may well have put her brother in charge but again, I don't doubt she knew of everything. She is fortunate her lawyers did not leave her in the lurch during the case but maybe they had paid to a point in it all. Hard to say.

I don't have time to read the links so just have to go by what is here. I may never get time at least not anytime soon.

If things are pending civil suit appeals, as far as paying the victims as ordered, she can end up owing back interest if she loses appeals on the civil cases I am pretty sure.

If true her brother conspired, it is likely true he planned or figured on bankruptcy at a point and just as possible she knew of all. I mean the history eve with Epstein is questionable as to accounts in different countries, various accounts probably,, money, blackmail, etc.

Just thoughts. Had some others but can't recall right now.

It seems to be saying something about properties that were purchased but I don't really follow it. We will have to see if it goes to civil court or if she pays it. As I said, I believe she is suing the Epstein estate for her fees so maybe that is not proceeding very well.

I wouldn't doubt they made it as difficult to follow the trail of money and properties and accounts and names as possible (like the Murdaugh) case. Probably take some time to unravel IF they do that...

In the part of the article I posted above there is a highlighted link to the complete document. (See paragraph above) One thing that it explains is the trail of money, which is convoluted, and includes a property being transferred via a trust to hubby for $100 then him selling it for $2 million. Hubby then declares he is getting a divorce.

I have copied that one page below -

"On July 27, 2020, less than a month after the indictment against Ms. Maxwell, the
Maxwell family lawyer who was managing Ms. Maxwell’s defense became Granite’s sole
manager.
64. Under Granite’s operating agreement, the Maxwell family lawyer had “the right
and power to manage, operate, and control [Granite] and to do all things which it deems
necessary or desirable for [Granite].”
65. On July 30, 2020, a month after the indictment, Mr. Borgerson transferred one of
the Boston condominiums from a trust to himself personally for $100 in consideration.
66. On December 21, 2021, an HMF shareholder wrote Mr. Maxwell to express
concern about media reports that Mr. Borgerson was divorcing Ms. Maxwell.
67. Mr. Maxwell assured HMF that “[y]ou will not be tangled with Scott.”
68. Mr. Maxwell, however, had information indicating that Mr. Borgerson’s planned
divorce would further impede HMF’s ability to recoup fees and advanced costs, which he
withheld from HMF.
69. Mr. Maxwell and the family lawyer also routinely told HMF that missed payment
deadlines and Ms. Maxwell’s growing delinquency was the result of obstruction by Mr.
Borgerson.
70. Public records reflect that, in May 2022, Mr. Borgerson sold the same property he
transferred a month after Ms. Maxwell’s arrest for $2,150,000.
71. Also following Ms. Maxwell’s conviction, Mr. Borgerson listed the Bradford,
Massachusetts, estate for $7,295,000, claiming that Ms. Maxwell had no ownership interest in
the property."

This is one page only of the 18 page document.

Yes, definitely a private plan/conspiracy going on there I'd say all to cheat the lawyers and any others from leaving her destitute. I take it Mr. Maxwell is the brother.

Looks to me like the husband, brother and Ghislaine are all part of it. Pretty obvious what they are doing imo and it reminds me a lot of Murdaugh and now many others who play such games as hiding assets through transfers, selling things off, divorce, bankruptcy and more.

I'll have to check that case out. I have never heard of it before. Clearly this is what Epstein was involved in too as he always said he was only interested in billionaires.

Yeah I thought of him too and thought with what she and her ilk are doing now it is probably something she and Epstein did a lot of too...

Maybe it was someone else but I thought I mentioned Murdaugh back towards the beginning of that case, and thought it was on this thread, and you went and checked it out. And since then well it could be one of the biggest stories of corruption, power, abuse of power, scamming, and people in high places as part of it and the charges just keep coming. He too deeded a home I think to this wife for nothing and someone had to him that was questionable but that's a drop in the bucket compared to the cases overall in it. It is HUGE but like this one, interesting how it isn't making headlines everywhere in the US.

Maybe it was a new subscriber or someone else but I mentioned it in relation to a case being talked about and I thought it was in relation to this one.

Anyhow it relates to THIS part a lot. He has tried to hide assets, has been stealing for years through a scheme that included big banks and a banker and more, Even when in jail he was trying to sell assets and protect them, etc. And he had for many years quite a scheme going on using accounts that weren't what they seemed to be etc.

It is quite the case. I think the charges already total over 100 of him and cohorts they find as they try and are still trying to unravel the labyrinth of money and more. It seems every week here come more charges against him or someone new that funneled money.

He is/was a South Carolina attorney from a dynasty of a family in that area where his grandpa, dad, great grandpa I think all had been the District Attorneys in the county for over 100 years. His very name let him get away with a lot but it is turning out other big names were part of some of his schemes.

Anyhow, I know you don't follow every case nor do I, but that one might interest you. There is a lot to it.

I had checked it out when you mentioned it before but had since forgotten Murdaugh, believe it or not. I haven't been following many cases in the last year or so. It looks very complicated so I don't think I have the time to follow it ATM.

Their are two brothers, Ian and Kevin, and it is Kevin mentioned in this lawsuit.

I can certainly understand not having the time.

It is complicated and I don't even try to following or research all the ins and outs of it. I just note the new charges which are constant, get the basics of it, and then let Scott of Crime Talk or such recap it in a shorter summary of the case here and there.

Anyhow, not the same kind of case at all, not a sex trafficking thing, but nothing would surprise me, there are hints of drug smuggling and other things in the family, but the parts of hiding assets and money schemes I can kind of relate to this here, power, influence, who one knows and/or is in "cahoots" with, etc. Money truly is the root of all evil imo. As can be sex, ego, power, etc.

The DM article (link below) shows how her assets - which totalled over $20m, according to her bail application - were moved over to her spouse (the blue items).

I read it although none of it surprises me much. Just makes it clear again there is no one these self anointed self important people won't screw, both literally and figuratively imo. Shady, corrupt and sleazy and yet people bowed and/or kowtowed to them.

I fail to see either how that marriage and subsequent "apparent" divorce is hidden and they can't seem to confirm if their divorce is final. Court records are generally open and available to the public and I see no reason their divorce merits any more privacy than anyone else's.

Everything they do is in the dark and shady. Such types sicken and disgust me and yet they and some others think they are special and "somebodies". And the list of those who caved to what they had to "offer" at his island and elsewhere well just shows that and more...
