Killer who stabbed 4 Idaho students to death still at large​

The killer — or killers — who stabbed four University of Idaho students to death remained at large Tuesday, prompting many students to leave the campus in the idyllic small town despite police assurances that there was no imminent risk to the community.

So many students had left the scenic tree-lined campus in Moscow, Idaho, by Tuesday that university officials said a candlelight vigil scheduled for the next day would instead be held after the Thanksgiving break.

The students, all close friends, were found dead in an off-campus rental home around noon on Sunday, and officials said they likely were killed several hours earlier. Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt told the Spokane, Washington-based television station KXLY that her preliminary investigation showed the students were stabbed to death. There is no indication that substance use was involved in the deaths, Mabbutt said.

I just watched this video and it's only about 16 minutes long, but it gave me a better understanding of the layout of the house.

One thing that was interesting is that he honed in on the red substance on the outside of the house. It's actually coming from Xena's bedroom. And the substance has been suspected by internet sleuths as being coming from a pipe, but in one area it's definitely on top of the pipe. I think this YouTube creator has a background in law enforcement and he didn't rule out blood, but he said only an investigator working on this scene can verify what the substance might be.

He's a crime scene investigator.
 
The following is MOO, and all MOO, with a couple of questions. I go back and forth as to which person was the target. Most are guessing that it was K. that was targeted. What if it wasn't? She had made a last minute decision to pop into town for a visit with her former housemates and probably her sorority sisters for the weekend, according to her family. From what her family said, it sounded like she had completed all of her classes and was basically just waiting until December for her official graduation.
E didn't live at the house, but he would be there occasionally overnight with his GF X. The perp wasn't expecting him to be there that night.
I don't have the answers to the questions below , just things I have wondered about.

What if these homicides were related in some way to sorority or fraternity rush? A candidate wants desperately to join either one of the sororities the victims belonged to if female or wants to join Ethan's fraternity. if male. For whatever reason, they do not receive a sorority bid or a frat invite to join. They are crushed, beyond devastated, and their resentment builds into rage over a couple of months and they take "revenge" on the victims, blaming them for the person not getting in.

What other businesses were located near the Greek restaurant where two of the victims worked? Could an employee of one of those places had an interest in one of the women, who was not interested in them or unaware of this person? He sees her every day or several times a week, going to and coming from work, out with her friends, holding her boyfriend's hand as they walk down the sidewalk together, etc. Kind of a " If I can't have you, then I am going to make sure no one else will either" scenario.

People keep referring to the perp as " he." Maybe it was a "she" . A very p.o.'ed physically fit female, armed with a knife, with the element of surprise, and huge rushes of adrenaline from anger could have committed these murders.

A lot about hoodie guy and the girls that night at the bar and food truck, etc. But of interest is the dark sedan showed up, the Uber that was not an Uber, or was it? What is with that anyhow? The driver gets out and yells to the girls to hurry up. Before that a bunch of fraternity guys had shown up. The food truck guy gives the girls free food and rushes their meals since driver yelled at them to hurry up etc....

This witness who has spoken before I think is the big guy int he video at the food truck and he calls the girls drunk at the bar even prior to the food truck....

I thought it was interesting that he yelled “Hurry up” too. But then, I figured the girls might’ve texted a friend or some thing.

I like reading everyone’s theories on this case.

One of the retired detectives that I was listening to on YouTube was saying they really thought it was a man because they were able to overpower Ethan. And it looks like Xana tried to fight them off. I was thinking about that crazy gal that stabbed her ex-boyfriend in the shower. She was able to overpower him!

Yes, and I keep reading reports that it was very bloody in that room. I can’t imagine that they thought she was just unconscious. And what about Ethan? They would’ve said both of them were unconscious, right? And I would think they would run to the other girls rooms to tell them what was going on. We’ll all find out eventually. It’ll be interesting.

I think one of them was on the floor, their body blocking the door so that it could not be opened more than an inch, if even that much. The surviving roommates could see only part of a foot or an arm, they call the person's name attempting to rouse them. Absolutely no response, which would explain the "person is unconscious" part of the 911 call. They are in their 20's- it is more logical for them to think that their roommate is unconscious or passed out and not think " murder and there is a bloodbath in there."

Now that is the first believable scenario I’ve heard.

That is a very good theory and more plausible than the killer locking a bedroom door on his way out.

The sad part is that the person that would’ve been blocking the door might have been alive for a little bit and was trying to get help. 😢

But Bundy attacked girls who were alone except for the sorority house in Florida. And at no killings and/or kidnappings was there a male present. And he often feigned injury to gain control. I hear you that it's close to home. That does make it creepier. I know of a few locations close to me, 2 in the building, Of murders, Suicides and deaths and it does freak you out.

I just saw part of a syndicated show called " Forged In Fire. " it is a contest type of show that pits professional knifemakers, aka bladesmiths, in making different types of knives. MOO that the show is a little bit creepy now. Judges then test and rate the knives according to cutability, strength and durability of the knife, etc. On this particular episode, judges used giant chunks of ham to perform the tests. There were 3 competitors on this particular episode.
I am wondering if the perp is male, if he watches/watched this show or ever mentioned it to people he knows.

This case is very creepy. I keep hearing it was "A crime of passion". And that one of the girls that remains unnamed allegedly had a stalker. Kimster mentioned Bundy. Danny Rolling just popped in my head. Attacked anyone who was in the residence. The exception being he mutilated his victims on a very shocking level. I can't believe 2 people slept through this. Like some other crimes, I wonder why others didn't gang up on the perpetrator and show them some pain. I certainly am not blaming any victims.

I bet they watch those really late sword and knife sale shows. Some are really cool. But now that you mention it, They may have alot of those type of things, All over the walls etc. Wanna see my new sword?. Nope. Gotta go.

We happened to come across that show after Thanksgiving dinner last night. I had the same thoughts running through my mind. We had to change it when they were testing the knives by slicing into fake human torsos. They even went as far as adding fake blood pouches into the skin.

I lean towards Kaylee for the very reason she was graduating, succeeding AND leaving people which a perp may not have liked and known it to be his "last" chance.

However, I have also heard things that people believe it was Maddie, the target.

No one seems to think it was Ethan or Xana. I don't either.

I do allow the possibility that someone could have been upset with the group of them... I don't know for what reasons but as you said, maybe not getting into a sorority or fraternity, maybe being unwelcome in their home, maybe being excluded from the group in some way...

Unless you have heard otherwise, the perp didn't necessarily expect Ethan not to be there. Ethan may well have stayed over every weekend and all maybe knew it or for that matter maybe he was there even more than that but they aren't sharing that as maybe parents did not know or something, etc. Just like the Uber, there seems to be something they are hiding not for investigation reasons but because maybe it wasn't kosher and they didn't want an Uber driver for instance getting in trouble for taking a fare "outside" of Uber's knowledge or something...

I don't know that we can figure whether the perp knew Ethan was there or not. If it was someone who saw them out he may well have known. We also don't know that nothing went on like a party after hours or people that came over...In fact there is so much we don't know...

Most all imo points to Kaylee. However, if it was someone outside of who we have heard of or seen they saw or had contact with, then it could be either girl and could be a workplace thing, a neighbor, someone from the bar that night, etc.

All jmo. I am open actually to almost all possibilities and all possibilities are actually on the table as we really don't know anything that would exclude any possibility unfortunately.
