Got my Masters degree from here. :(

Killer who stabbed 4 Idaho students to death still at large

The killer — or killers — who stabbed four University of Idaho students to death remained at large Tuesday, prompting many students to leave the campus in the idyllic small town despite police assurances that there was no imminent risk to the community.

So many students had left the scenic tree-lined campus in Moscow, Idaho, by Tuesday that university officials said a candlelight vigil scheduled for the next day would instead be held after the Thanksgiving break.

The students, all close friends, were found dead in an off-campus rental home around noon on Sunday, and officials said they likely were killed several hours earlier. Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt told the Spokane, Washington-based television station KXLY that her preliminary investigation showed the students were stabbed to death. There is no indication that substance use was involved in the deaths, Mabbutt said.

I like reading everyone’s theories on this case.

One of the retired detectives that I was listening to on YouTube was saying they really thought it was a man because they were able to overpower Ethan. And it looks like Xana tried to fight them off. I was thinking about that crazy gal that stabbed her ex-boyfriend in the shower. She was able to overpower him!
I haven't been able to see everything but I don't think we know that Ethan wasn't sleeping do we? If he and Xana were asleep then imo the perp knew Ethan was in the home.

Xana having defensive wounds comes from her father. Has LE verified this? I'm not doubting it, just wondering if they have at least done that.

Still conscious 8-9 hours later? I find that FAR less plausible than a locked door.
True IF they called right after finding the person. We know they didn't as they called others first. Which bothers me greatly the more I think about it. EVEN if they thought someone unconscious, you get help in the form of an ambulance and/or LE.

And even if it was the full number of hours later, it is not unheard of. The perp attacked four victims, he may very well have not gotten an instant kill on one of them.

I don't think it likely though either BUT IF that is blood outside and IF she fought back and if she actually moved, they may well have found her outside the bedroom somewhere.

I also find it a bit hard to believe if NOT a thing sent up an alarm that the downstairs roommates would walk into a "couple's bedroom" if no reason to be alarmed... Even if Ethan did not stay there every night, I am sure the roommates knew he probably often did...

I find it all a bit unbelievable as to why they would think any of these victims was simply unconscious and look no further? Makes no sense at all.

I don't think the person was conscious either and then passed BUT was just putting it out there as a possible explanation where NONE of the explanations make any sense.

If someone is hurt or unconscious you don't call friends. They are pretty quiet about who they called as well. I almost wonder if either did not call a parent or a doctor or an off duty cop they may have known, etc. Doesn't mean it was other college kids they called. And then someone older and more mature maybe in some profession made the call with one of their phones...

The only reason I can think of for NOT calling an ambulance or the hospital, etc. for even an unconscious person is they thought it was drugs or some such. And nothing has been said about such a lifestyle so far... Why else wouldn't you? (Meaning them)

Yes, and I keep reading reports that it was very bloody in that room. I can’t imagine that they thought she was just unconscious. And what about Ethan? They would’ve said both of them were unconscious, right? And I would think they would run to the other girls rooms to tell them what was going on. We’ll all find out eventually. It’ll be interesting.
It makes no sense that's for sure. I allowed for youth, naivete and denial but it still just doesn't explain it.

I think one of them was on the floor, their body blocking the door so that it could not be opened more than an inch, if even that much. The surviving roommates could see only part of a foot or an arm, they call the person's name attempting to rouse them. Absolutely no response, which would explain the "person is unconscious" part of the 911 call. They are in their 20's- it is more logical for them to think that their roommate is unconscious or passed out and not think " murder and there is a bloodbath in there."
That makes a lot of sense but it assumes the female roommates would open a door to a "couple's" bedroom when not getting a response. Why even ben alarmed enough to do so when all were out the night before and college kids that party and sleep late? Why would you think anything wrong enough to enter or try to? Something is missing here... Not in your thoughts of that possibility but of why they would be concerned enough to try to open the door when no one gave them permission to enter...

That is a very good theory and more plausible than the killer locking a bedroom door on his way out.

The sad part is that the person that would’ve been blocking the door might have been alive for a little bit and was trying to get help. 😢
It does make some good sense. The only two that were likely in the same room were Xana and Ethan (if all asleep which I am not convinced of). If the killer went for Ethan first, Xama would likely awake and maybe made it to the door or further and it fits with defensive wounds she allegedly had. I would almost think she also may have got off a scream or two, maybe, maybe not, IF having a moment or several while fighting him off....

But Bundy attacked girls who were alone except for the sorority house in Florida. And at no killings and/or kidnappings was there a male present. And he often feigned injury to gain control. I hear you that it's close to home. That does make it creepier. I know of a few locations close to me, 2 in the building, Of murders, Suicides and deaths and it does freak you out.
Even for me, just the number and it being college and all made me think of the Bundy thing but I don't understand the leap from there. I don't see anything in this case to indicate a serial killer or go to that necessarily at all. And yes, Bundy did that on his escape didn't he? He in no way STARTED like that and at that point was probably thinking it was his last chance to do the biggest, become the most known, worst, etc. or graduate to that as he was already charged, etc. and a wanted man.

That's not to say it couldn't be, I mean anything is possible, but I think it is closer to home/some connection/personal.

But again, who knows?

This case is very creepy. I keep hearing it was "A crime of passion". And that one of the girls that remains unnamed allegedly had a stalker. Kimster mentioned Bundy. Danny Rolling just popped in my head. Attacked anyone who was in the residence. The exception being he mutilated his victims on a very shocking level. I can't believe 2 people slept through this. Like some other crimes, I wonder why others didn't gang up on the perpetrator and show them some pain. I certainly am not blaming any victims.
Furhman said she had a stalker. LE has found no evidence of such thus far.

Cops also kind of got shot down for saying crime of passion by Kaylee's sister, etc. BUT they maybe no one victim perhaps was the target and that it WAS personal... That''s my thought.

I just saw part of a syndicated show called " Forged In Fire. " it is a contest type of show that pits professional knifemakers, aka bladesmiths, in making different types of knives. MOO that the show is a little bit creepy now. Judges then test and rate the knives according to cutability, strength and durability of the knife, etc. On this particular episode, judges used giant chunks of ham to perform the tests. There were 3 competitors on this particular episode.
I am wondering if the perp is male, if he watches/watched this show or ever mentioned it to people he knows.
we've watched that show for several years. I'm not seeing the connection.

How is that necessary?. Use a watermelon instead of, This is what it will do to a person. WOW! COOL!
They are recreating knives of history and what they do is seeing if the blade the people make is true to the history of it's purpose. Watermelons were not part of the history.

The sorority house is what I'm talking about, and so have a few talking heads on vlogs. I came up with the idea on my own, or so I thought, but I'm not alone in the theory. One of the vloggers, I think the cold case detective one, talks on and on as though this was a fantasy crime, much like how serial killers operate.

Yet, it could still be a revenge crime of sorts. We really don't know yet. I keep praying they are able to obtain some solid clues from forensics.

You mean texted a friend as in who their ride was? Texted a friend for a ride?
This part of the puzzle is really puzzling and I saw someone say the same last night. Most people are talking that there was an Uber, which was originally stated by LE. But at a subsequent presser, they said it was a private party.

  • Moscow, Idaho police on Friday evening said that two of the four victims were given a lift home in the early hours of Sunday by 'a private party'

Ah. O.K. I wasn't putting you down. Yes, Overkill usually means personal. But there certainly are plenty of serial killers who used overkill for sure. Like "Richard Ramirez". He did some extremely sick things. There are plenty of others. So I was just giving my opinion. Not putting down yours. I'm sorry if I came off that way.

I didn't feel that way at all, no worries! I'm reading all theories and wondering which one, if any, will be the case in the long run. It could be something none of us have even imagined at all. This is a very strange case and why the whole country is on edge trying to figure it out!

I was watching a vlog where a guy from Japan seemed to contradict himself, IMO. He said he thought the perp may have easily left for break right after the murders and no one would think "oh my gosh, he left town" because most of the students are doing the same. Then later on in the vlog he said he thought it was a stretch to consider the knife killings in Marion County, Oregon could be related because they were so far away. "Uh, what if the perp's residence is in Marion County", I practically screamed out loud.

What does he know?. He's in Japan. Just YOU keep to your country's crimes. "Just can't make up my mind in Japan". The perpetrator might live in another county?. Wow. It didn't occur to them. If it was personal, They were going to get there no matter the distance. It's certainly happened. People traveling state to state. Hours and hours to get to someone to kill them.

When the curfew hit and people were still outside, I said..."IT'S 10 CURFEW PUT INTO EFFECT STARTS TONIGHT! GET INSIDE! NOW B*****S! I was dared, So I had too. No one saw me or figured out where it came from. That was funny right thare. They couldn't believe it. Well...Don't dare me. Unless it's reckless or stupid.
