Got my Masters degree from here. :(

Killer who stabbed 4 Idaho students to death still at large

The killer — or killers — who stabbed four University of Idaho students to death remained at large Tuesday, prompting many students to leave the campus in the idyllic small town despite police assurances that there was no imminent risk to the community.

So many students had left the scenic tree-lined campus in Moscow, Idaho, by Tuesday that university officials said a candlelight vigil scheduled for the next day would instead be held after the Thanksgiving break.

The students, all close friends, were found dead in an off-campus rental home around noon on Sunday, and officials said they likely were killed several hours earlier. Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt told the Spokane, Washington-based television station KXLY that her preliminary investigation showed the students were stabbed to death. There is no indication that substance use was involved in the deaths, Mabbutt said.

On the NIGHT of the incident they located a dog at the residence?? That NIGHT? Kaylee and her ex-boyfriend shared a dog and her parents mentioned she called him about the dog/that they share it, etc. UNSURE if they meant in the phone calls that particular early morn or just that she called him generally at times about the dog, etc.

Why would it take until night to realize there was a dog at the residence and why wouldn't the roommates have been taking care of it/have had it? Was the dog hiding? Was it shut away maybe by the perp? Why didn't a dog bark if there was a dog present? And the dog was apparently unharmed... I am going to guess this was Kaylee's dog. And that of her ex...

I find it veryyyy interesting they are telling us this and even brought it up...
I think this info was to help put out some more of those rumors, especially as it's being released along with the "skinned dog" info.

LE may be having to waste time putting out rumor fires, but they are also partly responsible for some of those rumors based on how they're choosing to release info. - Yes, they "located" a dog. But the dog had been there the whole time. I'm sure the roommates were taking care of it but they released it to a "responsible party" as in someone legally responsible for the dog (boyfriend on the dogs papers or their family, most likely). Other posts/comments indicate that YES it was Kaylee's dog, but they didn't come out and say it. Leaving people SO much room to speculate and start new rumors.

Okay I did not know this. Apparently Kaylee was done with school? Or just about? And she only went there to show Maddie her new vehicle and she had a job lined up in Texas I think is what I heard?

If this is true, she had a break up with her bf, was done with school, was there for the weekend to see Maddie and/or all and party with her friend and show her her new "ride"/vehicle and was off soon to start a new life with a new job fresh out of college...

I have my thoughts I've been thinking for several days now and a leaning and things here and there seem to keep kind of fitting my thought.

Could be totally wrong though ...

The dog tidbit was interesting too.

The did put it in with the skinned dog comments but I thought there may be another reason for mentioning it. I went another direction in thought with it entirely.

She apparently was graduating in December, and had accepted a job out of state (her family alluded to a cross country move and Texas). She apparently had already moved all or most of her belongings out of the house.

Wow such a bright future and had done all of the work. All of them just kids. Beyond sad.

I have kept up with the case here and with a video or two but haven't had time to watch all or every day or look further so I hadn't heard that until last night. Thanks for the info.

That too fits with where I am leaning. Although I'm not going to say it as there isn't enough to back it, I'm sure people can figure it out. It's just a lot of little things and just a gut instinct. I'm probably entirely wrong.

My 2nd guess would be the food truck and my 3rd would leave it at someone she or the others upset and is known to them in some way.

I don't really like the whole roommate thing either and how they called not LE but other(s) over and that all seems a bit hokey but I am not really thinking they were involved.

So Kaylee was not only flying the coop or fleeing the nest but going quite a ways away too as soon as next month and had already basically "left" and was just back to show Madison her vehicle, etc. She broke up with her bf and was leaving on an entirely new phase of her life/starting her life so to speak. I wonder who was taking the dog. I expect he has the dog now as the other owner.

I wonder what of interest if anything the cell phone records and locations of the others are going to show. Those of the victims, the other roommates, the food truck guy, the ex-bf...

It hasn't been said where Ethan and Xana were after the party and before getting home. I doubt it is anything nefarious, maybe they just haven't pinned it down yet.

Does anyone find it a bit unusual they all arrived home at the same time (the four victims) at 1:45? How would they know that? And do we think there was a reason and what are the odds of that? Unless maybe Xana and Ethan joined the girls at the bar and were their ride home...? That would make a weird kind of sense. If they all rode together, of course they arrived home all at once... This is total speculation on my part.

I haven't watched this all yet but this is interesting.

Why were we told there was an Uber and then wasn't?

Now mom and sister are saying they pulled the video from the Uber driver who was "driving them around" so they know what time the girls got home.

My only guess is this was an Uber driver who was doing a job off of the company software/knowledge? OR why all the back and forth. Last we heard was it was a private party who gave them a ride. Now Kaylee's family says an Uber again.

Frustrating.

This is interesting so far though, they say police are off on timeline. By minutes but still off.

@SheWhoMustNotBeNamed , does Idaho still stop the sale of liquor at 1AM? Seems like it was 2AM in California and that set the pace for us young people to get home around 2AM or thereabouts.

I saw a tweet where someone felt the perp was known to the dog because the dog didn't bark and wake up the other roommates. I'm not a dog owner. Do they always bark at strangers? What type dog was this, do we know? I'm wondering if the roommates could have heard the dog if it was barking?

Found what I think is a pic of the dog. Is that a laberdoodle?

This is a really sad link showing the kids in the house having fun. :(

As far as I know, it's 2 am. But most places will do the last call around 1:30.
Would make sense with the timeline. They hear the last call at 1:30, leave, hit the food truck a short time later, and get home.

It does to appear to be a labradoodle.

I have a friend who owns one and it doesn't ever bark at me that I can remember. It just wants to jump on me. I wonder if this dog was bothering the killer, or the killer let it outside?

I was just analyzing this statement:
Moscow police issued an updated news release that said the two surviving roommates "summoned friends to the residence because they believed one of the second-floor victims had passed out and was not waking up. At 11:58 a.m., a 911 call requested aid for an unconscious person.

This leads me to believe that they were talking about a roommate who was alone in one of the bedrooms and for some reason, they must not have seen any blood? I'm trying to figure out how this happened.

the labradoodles I have been around, I don't think I have ever heard them bark, but haven't been around them a lot to know if that is the way they are.

Ethan Chapin was a Washington resident who was also a triplet. The picture above is him with his siblings. Here's some excerpts about his memorial:

At Idaho, Ethan Chapin was in the Sigma Chi fraternity and was majoring in recreation, sport and tourism management, university president Scott Green said.

He loved sports, from golf to basketball to surfing to pickleball, his family said.

"He laughed continuously. He smiled when he woke up and was still smiling when he went to bed," his obituary said. "He was kind to all and a friend to all."

The smile looks very natural on all three of them.

Some Uber drivers have cameras in their cars. Some point backwards and some point forwards and some point both ways. The idea being if you're robbed you can get a picture of the robber from the back facing camera, and if you get into an accident the front facing camera footage can be shown to the police. It sounds to me like this driver had a front facing camera that he realized probably picked up the girls going home because he had a fare on that street or was just driving by at the time. The guy probably contacted police about it and that's where all the confusion comes from.
