Got my Masters degree from here. :(

Killer who stabbed 4 Idaho students to death still at large

The killer — or killers — who stabbed four University of Idaho students to death remained at large Tuesday, prompting many students to leave the campus in the idyllic small town despite police assurances that there was no imminent risk to the community.

So many students had left the scenic tree-lined campus in Moscow, Idaho, by Tuesday that university officials said a candlelight vigil scheduled for the next day would instead be held after the Thanksgiving break.

The students, all close friends, were found dead in an off-campus rental home around noon on Sunday, and officials said they likely were killed several hours earlier. Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt told the Spokane, Washington-based television station KXLY that her preliminary investigation showed the students were stabbed to death. There is no indication that substance use was involved in the deaths, Mabbutt said.

Well we know FBI is involved generally only if the local agency in cases ask for their help and allow them to do this or that. My guess would be just like cell phone data and some other things that they may have an expertise/specialists in recreating something like this?

I'm also guessing it may then be demolished and the U wants that....? Because like in Murdaugh they traveled to Moselle and in this one they are recreating the scene with a model...? The U wanted it taken down before and it took quite a bit to get them to stop such plans as families' and people's outcry fell on deaf ears. I am guessing that is what is going to go on now after this model but perhaps not...

I don't know about anyone else but I am picturing the effect of this in court... Placing each person in their rooms, etc, space of distance or nearness, D opening her door, BK coming through and up the stairs, back down and so forth and the body locations and so forth... I honestly think this will be a very effective tool. Taking the jury there wouldn't even be the same as traversing the home in a model where one can see all at the same time... As they can show the dog upstairs and BK and the girls, they can at the same time showing D hearing something down below... Etc. Etc.

The FBI moved the entire Unabomber's cabin to the courtroom for his trial.
Good point. I knew beds, cages, etc. have been taken and other things and have or can have great impact. I am surprised it is allowed since all is defendant protecting past fairness these days and such is inflammatory, or prejudicial oh my goodness.

I am not a huge fan but I will say I picture something like Gray Hughes or some other good ones with such animations do with the bridge etc. in Delphi. Take the model of the home here and put the people in it and have them simultaneously moving or sleeping as well as the dog and BK at each moment.... I think such would have great effect. I am not sure that is what they will do, maybe it will be a physical model but either way...

I didn't know that. I didn't keep up with that case.
It was news to me too. I don't know what it is about certain types of cases but there are a few types I don't typically follow or gravitate to. Of course I know of it and a fair bit about it but was not one I followed closely and in that day, didn't do so at all much anyhow with crimes.

Idaho murders suspect Bryan Kohberger could claim in his upcoming trial that the home where the four students were killed was a 'party house' to explain why his DNA was found there.

<snip>

Criminal Defense Attorney Jack Rice says Kohberger's defense team could claim that the off-campus property where the murders took place was a wild party house where plenty of students would go.

It comes after FBI agents returned to the scene to collect more evidence, taking precise measurements of each room for 3D modeling that can be presented to the jury when the grisly case eventually goes to trial.

'One of the most important parts of this case is that DNA, and what we know is that this is a party house,' attorney Rice said in new documentary clip obtained by The New York Post.

'We know that there are hundreds of kids in this house – it could have even included him.

'And the thing is, if he was in this house, are you suggesting that these four know everybody who's been there? I doubt that.'

'All of sudden, you might have a completely different trial,' he added in The Case Against Bryan Kohberger documentary which airs on Court TV on Sunday.

A knife sheath with Kohberger’s DNA on it was found by police alongside the bodies of the victims last year.

But the suspect's defense team could say that because hundreds of students may have previously partied inside the house, his DNA was could have been there before the murders, according to Rice.

The defense previously revealed that they would be contesting the notion that Kohberger's DNA was left at the scene on the knife sheath.

They also claim that DNA from three other unidentified men was also found at the Idaho crime scene.

Neighbor Jeremy Reagan claimed there were 'constantly people in and out of the home'.

But he added that the parties had slowed down before the murders took place.

So he brought a knife to these parties and accidentally left the sheath in one of the rooms where the murders occurred?

I guess he could say that he was at a party and he dropped his sheath in the house and one of the girls must’ve taken it in the bedroom trying to figure out who it belonged to? That’s pretty lame but I guess he could say it.

Now comes the part where he proves he was at the house at a party.

Girl who lived on the bottom floor and survived is on the stand:

Prosecution: Would you ever let a skeevy dweeb like BK come to one of your parties?
Girl: ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!

Why did court seal Bryan Kohberger’s medical records?

There’s been a rare point of agreement between prosecutors and the defense team of University of Idaho killing suspect Bryan Kohberger.

This week, both parties got a “protective order” keeping Kohberger’s medical records off-limits to anyone other than the “defense counsel, investigators and retained experts.”

Some are questioning why the protective order was necessary, since medical records are already protected by law.
Sounds like they don't trust each side to keep it under wraps and making sure HIPAA laws are maintained.

ok, but think about this...who, especially with kids that are partying, wouldn't be playing with the snap on the sheath? It would become like one of those fidget thingys where somebody in a group of people would be flicking the snap open and closed. It's just what is going to happen in that environment if several are in an area. SOMEbody is going to be handling it, asking who's it was, at the very least.

Great point. I don’t know how he’s gonna try to wiggle out of it. But I know he is.
