Girl last seen in Manchester in October 2019; police seek tips from public

Manchester police are seeking tips from the public about the disappearance of a girl not seen in more than two years.

Harmony Montgomery, 7, was last seen in a home in Manchester in October 2019, when she was 5, police said.

Police said they first learned Harmony went missing earlier this week. Chief Allen Aldenberg did not specify who reported the girl missing but said his department has been in touch with multiple family members and will continue to speak with them.

Aldenberg said police are not searching for any adult or vehicle in connection with the case. Investigators are focusing on the whereabouts of Harmony.

"No time is a good time for a child to go missing," Aldenberg said. "I'm begging the community. I don't care if you saw this young girl a year ago and you think it's irrelevant. Call us."

Aldenberg said at a news conference Friday his detectives are working to confirm where Harmony is from and where she went to school before her disappearance.

Harmony is estimated to be approximately 4 feet tall and 50 pounds. Investigators said she has blonde hair, blue eyes and should be wearing glasses.

"We need help," Aldenberg said. "This remains a very active investigation."

So she just had a 2nd DUI while living at a "sober home". Probably kicked out so was living in a hotel room. Doubtful any money and facing charges. Very likely is suicide imo too, possibly OD, possibly other.

She had only dated him for just over a year it says and was living in a car with him. Why would you stay with someone like that and why would that appeal? I'd have to guess it was addiction whether drugs, alcohol or both because I just don't see why else you would.
Yeah that guy is toxic.

Grand jury indicts father, stepmom of missing NH girl

A grand jury in Manchester, New Hampshire, has indicted the father of 7-year-old Harmony Montgomery, who hasn’t been seen since October 2019, on a felony charge of second-degree assault for allegedly hitting his daughter in the face.

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office announced the indictment of Adam Montgomery, 30, as well as the indictment of Kayla Montgomery, Adam’s wife, who is accused of collecting state support for Harmony for two years after she disappeared.

Adam Montgomery was indicted Friday for a July 2019 incident in which he allegedly hit Harmony in the face. Previously released court documents show that family members told investigators that Montgomery physically abused Harmony. He allegedly gave her a black eye, forced her to “stand in the corner for hours” and scrub toilets with her toothbrush, according to the documents.

Kayla Montgomery was arrested January 6 on one charge of felony welfare fraud. She is accused of failing to remove Harmony from the family’s account with the state’s Division of Family Assistance once she was no longer living with her and Adam Montgomery.

Kayla Montgomery’s case is scheduled for a hearing in Hillsborough Superior Court Northern District in Manchester on April 7. Adam Montgomery’s next court date is June 28, 2022.

Manchester community not giving up on finding Harmony Montgomery

A small group passed out fliers, ribbons and information on Harmony Montgomery at a Manchester park Saturday as people continue to search for the 7-year-old missing since late 2019.

The group "United to Find Harmony," one of several similar similar groups in New Hampshire, scattered purple rocks with Harmony's name around the park to keep her name fresh in local conversation.

Organizer Regina Carr said she thinks the movement shows "New Hampshire is a little more bound than people think it is."

"We are a little more united than people think we are," Carr said. "The village exists, the village is looking, and we're going to find her"

Crystal Sorey, Harmony's mother, said she appreciates the support and has events planned for April.

I love this remark:

I'm so thankful for the community support! But finding her is like a needle in a haystack. :(

New Search for Harmony Montgomery Planned This Weekend in NH

The reward in the Harmony Montgomery case has shot up to $150,000 thanks to a personal donation from a New Hampshire resident.

It's been three months since Harmony's disappearance made international headlines.

"It's very scary for me," her mother, Crystal Sorey, said during a video call. "I am afraid, like what if I never know?"

Sorey thinks the case has stalled at the Manchester Police Department.

"I even emailed the lead detective letting him know I was concerned that the case was going nowhere," she said.

Meanwhile, other community members are planning a citizens' search, hoping to find something that might help find the missing 7-year-old.

Carr is planning a search at an undisclosed wooded area on the city's West Side that she says Adam Montgomery was familiar with.

"It's is a place where homeless encampments have been swept and cleared out, but those are his people," Carr said.

She and another volunteer surveyed the site Friday. They say although they're amateurs, they've done their research and are well prepared.

"We've got flags if we find anything, safety vests, tape, gloves and nametags," Carr said as she rummaged through a box in the trunk of her car.

Manchester Police spokeswoman Heather Hamel says detectives are still following more than 600 leads.

"Just because there aren't details we can disclose to the public doesn't mean that each and every day, Manchester Police aren't working this case," Hamel said.

She says the department supports anything that could help bring Harmony home — including the search this weekend.

I wonder if negotiations include immunity if she tells them where Harmony can be found?

Missing girl’s stepmother arrested on unrelated gun charges

The stepmother of a missing New Hampshire girl accused of lying that the child was living with her to collect food stamp benefits faces new, unrelated firearms charges, days after the girl’s father was arrested on similar charges, the attorney general’s office said Tuesday.

Kayla Montgomery, 31, is accused of receiving a rifle and a shotgun between Sept. 29 and Oct. 22 of 2019, knowing that they had been stolen or believing they had probably been stolen.

“There is no evidence of any connection between the stolen firearms and the disappearance of Harmony Montgomery,” the attorney general’s office said in a news release.

The search for Harmony remains active. The Manchester Police Department’s 24-hour tip line on the case is (603) 203-6060 and there is a reward fund of at least $150,000.

Absolute scum. Lied to keep getting money. Just sickening. And dad is just as wonderful. Another argument for forced sterilization. Have to have a license to drive, Collect money for an agency, For a pet in the town you live in, To cut hair, Even fishing. But not to have a child. There should be a law for that too. I swear.

"If you've touched this little girl's life in any way, in her short seven years on this earth, and you haven't asked hard questions of people that are close to her because you don't want to know the answer or you don't want to be placed in the middle of something uncomfortable, too bad," Aldenberg said.

When asked to give an example of a hard question to ask, Aldenberg said, "Where's Harmony? There's one."

Aldenberg said that if anyone wants to talk to him directly, he will take the call, any time of day or night, at 603-792-5400.

Kayla Montgomery, stepmother of missing NH girl Harmony Montgomery, released from jail on bond

Kayla Montgomery — the stepmother of missing 7-year-old Harmony Montgomery — walked out of a New Hampshire jail today following a judge’s decision to allow her bond in cases connected to the disappearance of the little girl.

The order allowing bond in the cases was issued Friday and follows a bail hearing on Thursday.

Kayla Montgomery was released from jail around 7:30 p.m., Friday.

In her ruling, Judge Amy Messer says Kayla should be released given her limited criminal history and close ties to New Hampshire.
