Girl last seen in Manchester in October 2019; police seek tips from public

Manchester police are seeking tips from the public about the disappearance of a girl not seen in more than two years.

Harmony Montgomery, 7, was last seen in a home in Manchester in October 2019, when she was 5, police said.

Police said they first learned Harmony went missing earlier this week. Chief Allen Aldenberg did not specify who reported the girl missing but said his department has been in touch with multiple family members and will continue to speak with them.

Aldenberg said police are not searching for any adult or vehicle in connection with the case. Investigators are focusing on the whereabouts of Harmony.

"No time is a good time for a child to go missing," Aldenberg said. "I'm begging the community. I don't care if you saw this young girl a year ago and you think it's irrelevant. Call us."

Aldenberg said at a news conference Friday his detectives are working to confirm where Harmony is from and where she went to school before her disappearance.

Harmony is estimated to be approximately 4 feet tall and 50 pounds. Investigators said she has blonde hair, blue eyes and should be wearing glasses.

"We need help," Aldenberg said. "This remains a very active investigation."

Harmony Montgomery's Mom Seeks Answers Weeks After Large Search in Manchester

It's been nearly a month since investigators looking for missing girl Harmony Montgomery searched an apartment in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Authorities haven't said anything about any new clues about Harmony, last seen in late 2019 when she was 5 years old, that may have turned up inside that home. That's not sitting well with Harmony's mother.

"I haven't heard anything," said Crystal Sorey in an exclusive interview with NBC10 Boston. "Nothing from the search, nothing."

Sorey says she's still in the dark nearly four weeks after a high-profile search in a Manchester apartment building. An FBI evidence response team, Manchester police and Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies had an entire block of Union Street shut down.

"I'm just sitting here, twiddling my thumbs, hoping that they tell me a little crumb of information," she said.

The day of the search, investigators took out possible evidence, including a refrigerator, from the apartment where Harmony's father, Adam Montgomery and, her stepmother, Kayla, once lived.

"I want to know what was in that fridge," said Sorey. "Why did they take it out? I want to know why they took out tiles, carpet and the pole. Was there blood? Was there hair? What happened?"

Before the search took place, Sorey said, she was given an ominous warning by her advocate in the case.

"I was told to be prepared for the worst," said Sorey.

Manchester police and the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office tell NBC10 Boston the case remains active, but that there's no update. They would not address Sorey's concerns about the lack of information being shared.

25 Investigates: Lawmakers put the brakes on proposed Harmony Montgomery Commission

An advocacy commission named after missing child Harmony Montgomery failed to make it into this year’s state budget, 25 Investigates has learned.

The Budget Conference Committee stripped an amendment that would have created the Harmony Montgomery Commission out of the FY23 budget.

“In conference committee negotiations for legislation as large as the budget, it’s inevitable that negotiators won’t reach an agreement on every provision, especially policy considerations outside of the budget that may require input from stakeholders,” Ana Viva, spokesperson for House Speaker Ron Mariano, said in a statement. “The House has a strong record of passing DCF and child welfare related reforms, most recently during this legislative session. The House will continue to work on making improvements to the child welfare system.”

The Harmony Montgomery Commission would have studied how child care and protection cases are handled in Massachusetts and recommended changes.

So they're really saying other things were more important and we are protecting your children, When that's not true, And that's why this was to be formed. But not now. There's more important things than protecting children. Right?. Sure things are worse than ever but, They're fine. Unreal.

MANCHESTER, N.H. —
The stepmother of a missing New Hampshire girl had one charge dropped, according to a court order.

The estranged wife of Harmony Montgomery's father, Kayla Montgomery, was accused of obtaining more than $1,500 in food stamp benefits in January, leading to her initial arrest. She faced a felony welfare fraud charge.

On Wednesday, a judge signed off on dismissing the one count of welfare fraud that led to that arrest.

The charge was dismissed because no indictment had been returned from a grand jury before the deadline set by the New Hampshire Rules of Criminal Procedure.

In other words, a technicality.

Adam Montgomery, 31, was arrested in January for felony second-degree assault arising from 2019 conduct against his daughter Harmony — who was last seen in Manchester, New Hampshire in 2019 when she was five years old. Adam Montgomery also has one misdemeanor charge of interference with custody and two misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child pertaining to Harmony, according to officials.

The New Hampshire man was also indicted on eight gun-related charges and is the suspect in a 2008 killing of a Lynn man.

New Hampshire District Attorney’s office said none of Adam Montgomery’s charges are related to the disappearance of Harmony Montgomery.

New Hampshire investigators said they’ve narrowed down Harmony Montgomery’s disappearance to a two-week time span between Nov. 28 and Dec. 10, when her family was evicted from their Manchester home.

This case upsets me. Many do of course.

They narrowed the time span then.

I wonder if the stepmom might be cooperating/helping.

I would think they would have it narrowed down further if she was cooperating.
Maybe. If she remembers dates. And maybe they aren't taking just her word for it and hope for something corroborating between dates provided by other things. She'd hardly be considered a stellar witness without some back up evidence, etc. imo.

An update is expected tomorrow in the case of Harmony Montgomery -- missing since 2019 when she was 5-years-old in Manchester, New Hampshire. Local police, the NH Attorney General, and US Marshals will all provide an update.
Any feeling on whether it means anything or it it just going to be a rundown of how much they've searched, how many tips, etc.?

Cashing her welfare benefit checks. I've heard that many times. It's sickening. Adopting and fostering for it.
