Girl last seen in Manchester in October 2019; police seek tips from public

Manchester police are seeking tips from the public about the disappearance of a girl not seen in more than two years.

Harmony Montgomery, 7, was last seen in a home in Manchester in October 2019, when she was 5, police said.

Police said they first learned Harmony went missing earlier this week. Chief Allen Aldenberg did not specify who reported the girl missing but said his department has been in touch with multiple family members and will continue to speak with them.

Aldenberg said police are not searching for any adult or vehicle in connection with the case. Investigators are focusing on the whereabouts of Harmony.

"No time is a good time for a child to go missing," Aldenberg said. "I'm begging the community. I don't care if you saw this young girl a year ago and you think it's irrelevant. Call us."

Aldenberg said at a news conference Friday his detectives are working to confirm where Harmony is from and where she went to school before her disappearance.

Harmony is estimated to be approximately 4 feet tall and 50 pounds. Investigators said she has blonde hair, blue eyes and should be wearing glasses.

"We need help," Aldenberg said. "This remains a very active investigation."

Weapons, murder trials for Adam Montgomery scheduled for next year

A man accused of killing his 5-year-old daughter now has two jury trials scheduled for next year.

The weapons case against Adam Montgomery was set to begin earlier this month, but in a hearing Tuesday morning, his defense team pointed to last-minute new evidence that came in and asked the court for more time. That case now won't be tried until June.

The murder trial is now scheduled to begin in early August.

In year since search for missing girl Harmony began, many changes made to system

One year ago, the Manchester chief of police stunned the community and the world when he announced the search for a missing 5-year-old girl who had not been seen in two years.

The case of Harmony Montgomery unleashed a flurry of outrage, criticism and calls for change in how New Hampshire conducts child protection. While her body still has not been recovered, her father is now charged with murder.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — The father of once missing Harmony Montgomery was indicted by a grand jury last week on a charge of second-degree murder, according to new court documents.

Adam Montgomery, 31, of Manchester, New Hampshire, was arrested by Manchester police in October and charged in connection with his 5-year-old daughter, Harmony’s death.

The grand jury indictment, which was handed down on Jan. 20, accuses Adam Montgomery of recklessly causing Harmony’s death by repeatedly striking her in the head with a closed fist. He has also been indicted on charges of falsifying physical evidence, abuse of corpse, and tampering with witnesses.

MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) - A New Hampshire man facing a murder charge in connection with the disappearance of his 5-year-old daughter who has not been seen since 2019 and is presumed dead has been indicted on unrelated gun charges.

The Hillsborough County Grand Jury earlier this month indicted Adam Montgomery on two counts each of being a felon in possession of a firearm and being an armed career criminal.

He is alleged to have been in possession of guns even though he has multiple felony convictions in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges on April 4. An email seeking comment was left with his attorney.

Montgomery pleaded not guilty in October to charges of second-degree murder, falsifying physical evidence and abuse of a corpse. Authorities allege that he killed his daughter, Harmony Montgomery, by repeatedly striking her in the head with his fist.

2nd degree. I hope they, And better tag this POS! No one cared about this girl. Unbelievable. All of them that are involved need to be sentenced to the maximum penalty. No more dam plea deals! For any of these violent criminals.

I am so sick of CPS NOT PROTECTING CHILDREN! They have files, They note abuse, But do NOTHING! In "2013" Gabriel Fernandez. 4 workers were being charged in their negligence to do anything! Of course, The judge was ORDERED to drop the charged. Negligent workers need to be charged. Gabriel Fernandez was one of the worst, Long term abuse and neglect cases, Resulting in death I have ever seen.

MANCHESTER, N.H. —
Defense attorneys for a Manchester man accused of killing his 5-year-old daughter in 2019 waived arraignment on their client's behalf Tuesday in connection with weapons charges.

The arraignment pertains to weapons charges Adam Montgomery was indicted on last week. Investigators said he was in possession of a pistol and rifle while having five felony convictions on his record.

Adam Montgomery, who was not in court for Tuesday's hearing, will continue to be held without bail.

Harmony's mother, Crystal Sorey, was in the courthouse but declined to comment.

The judge touched on WMUR's motion to unseal documents related to the murder case. The state took no position on WMUR's request; however, Montgomery's attorneys filed a motion objecting to it. The judge did not issue a ruling Tuesday.

The search for the remains of Harmony Montgomery has taken Manchester police outside of New England, News 9 Investigates has learned.

Manchester detectives recently traveled to Florida as they continue to investigate the death of the 5-year-old girl.

Her father, Adam Montgomery, has been charged with second-degree murder in Harmony's death. News 9 Investigates has confirmed that detectives met with Montgomery's father and grandmother to discuss the case.

Montgomery has been an inmate at Valley Street Jail for about six months. News 9 Investigates has confirmed that he is in a cell alone but often calls his family in Florida.

Multiple sources confirmed to News 9 Investigates that in March, two detectives from the Manchester Police Department traveled to Florida and met with Montgomery's father and grandmother. It was called a courtesy visit, according to one source. Detectives shared new gruesome, upsetting details about Harmony's death that the family had not heard before.

<snip>
Officials said they had specific information that led them to the marsh in Revere on Friday, but a source confirmed to News 9 that the information did not come from Montgomery.

The prosecution and defense anticipate Adam Montgomery's trial on weapons charges set to begin later this month could last as long as a week.

Adam Montgomery, who has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his 5-year-old daughter Harmony, was also indicted in March on weapons charges including being a felon in possession of a firearm and being an armed career criminal.

Prosecutors said at a pretrial hearing Tuesday that they anticipate calling about 15 witnesses for the weapons trial, while defense lawyers said they could call four to five witnesses or more.

At the beginning of the hearing, Judge Amy Messer said that Adam Montgomery refused transport for the court appearance, but the subject was not mentioned again after a brief sidebar.

One issue that came up at the hearing related to the alleged abuse of Kayla Montgomery by her estranged husband Adam Montgomery. Defense lawyers requested an evidentiary hearing related to the matter and the judge is considering the request.

Additionally, Judge Messer said she will rule on pending pretrial motions soon after she receives all requested materials from the state.

Jury selection is scheduled for May 31 in the weapons case, with the trial starting in early June.
