Girl last seen in Manchester in October 2019; police seek tips from public

Manchester police are seeking tips from the public about the disappearance of a girl not seen in more than two years.

Harmony Montgomery, 7, was last seen in a home in Manchester in October 2019, when she was 5, police said.

Police said they first learned Harmony went missing earlier this week. Chief Allen Aldenberg did not specify who reported the girl missing but said his department has been in touch with multiple family members and will continue to speak with them.

Aldenberg said police are not searching for any adult or vehicle in connection with the case. Investigators are focusing on the whereabouts of Harmony.

"No time is a good time for a child to go missing," Aldenberg said. "I'm begging the community. I don't care if you saw this young girl a year ago and you think it's irrelevant. Call us."

Aldenberg said at a news conference Friday his detectives are working to confirm where Harmony is from and where she went to school before her disappearance.

Harmony is estimated to be approximately 4 feet tall and 50 pounds. Investigators said she has blonde hair, blue eyes and should be wearing glasses.

"We need help," Aldenberg said. "This remains a very active investigation."

Whew. It appears being put in jail might be saving her from herself for a bit.
It appears that that could be true by looking at her mugshot. I assume this is the wife & not Harmony's birth mother. There's still the girlfriend in Maine too.

Anyone else starting to think this is a recovery? Maybe it's just me after seeing these cases unfold over the years. I hope wherever Harmony is that she's not scared or hurt & can see clearly with both of her beautiful eyes.

yes, it says she is not her mother.
per link...
"Kayla Montgomery is not the biological mother of Harmony Montgomery."
She sure didn't mind collecting the benefits even though she knew Harmony didn't live with them.

Detailed timeline in this link.

So it seems "mom" only made a half-hearted attempt to contact her daughter in two years and might not have even tried if not for the Millers wanting her. This poor child had somebody that actually wanted her and her makers kept her from getting that.

It’s alarming to me that there are parents out there that care so much more for their drug addiction than their children. What’s even more alarming is that they continue to find other people just like them.

Very much so, especially when mom states she's with dad and dad states she's with mom.

And another thing  is that mom states that the last call she had with Harmony, Harmony appeared scared, yet she did nothing???

I have to say though, she may have said something to somebody and they just ignored her. When I was married, the other parent of the stepchildren was definitely lacking In the ability to care for children. But trying to tell that to the court or law enforcement was like talking to a brick wall. They think everything you say is just One parent trying to make the other parent miserable. That’s why CASA is so important. That’s where the children have somebody impartial stepping in and speaking for them in their behalf at the court level.

I will have to disagree with you about CASA. From personal experience only the GAL in my case never requested to speak with my child, review medical records, nor speak with my regular sitter. The GAL was an attorney who was assigned to be impartial while charging a lot of money for nothing more than her unprofessional opinion. I have a hard time believing that they truly have a childs best interest in mind.

In Harmony's case, the birth mother lost custody because of drugs however she still maintains a relationship with her sons adoptive family. The bio dad's family heard about the abuse & did what? Why wasn't a case worker assigned to follow up with Harmony's reunion with her family?

But when you have a child you are worried about, you don't just let it go, it sounds like she really didn't try much until her son's adoptive family kept asking. Asking for two years! She was the parent, not the step parent. I see no good excuse since it appears that it was only by the love of the ones that actually wanted her but legally could actually do nothing but ask the mom to try.

CASA here in Oregon is for foster parents, I believe. That's how the representatives have explained it to council, anyway.

I have heard of GAL before, but not in Oregon. If they have GAL, I don't know about it. I mentioned CASA because the foster care system had been involved. I wish that Harmony would have had a CASA rep helping her and am guessing she didn't. :(

P. S. I can see that I didn't make myself clear in my post. I put the two thoughts I was having in together! :gaah:

:okay:

I'm not trying to give excuses, just possible reasons.

Let me sort out my thoughts.

1. CASA could have been a resource for Harmony in the foster care system. Perhaps she would still be with her foster family.

2. The bio-mom may have been ignored when calling law enforcement because she was a) a chronic drug abuser and b) appeared to have sour grapes toward the bio-father.

Again possible reasons, not excuses. I would be in the DA's office screaming if it were me. Then again, I wouldn't have been in the bio-mom's situation in the first place.

i think she did FINALLY do something in Dec and that's when they finally started looking for her, but IMO she didn't ever take it a step further without the instance of her son's adoptive family. I think they are the only reason anything was done. I think she used the "can't get a hold off him" excuse alone.

per article
"Family members and Kayla Montgomery told police they last saw her around late October 2019. Adam Montgomery was living in a sober house at the time, she said, and then left the area to live in Maine with a third woman, police said. Sometime after that, they got back together. At the time, Kayla Montgomery accused Adam Montgomery of telling her that Harmony Montgomery was given back to her mother in Massachusetts. "

So are they saying that he was living at a sober house at the same time they last saw her? IF so, where was she living or was she with him there? This by itself seems like should have opened up an inquiry to her since he is the custodial parent and she would be a part of his sobriety.
