Police seem to be no closer to finding 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan than they were when this story began months ago.

Since that time, the story has gained international attention as it’s taken twists and turns involving a purported cult, dead spouses, delusions of divinity and preparing for the end of the world. Despite all the angles, and the ever-growing number of people related to the case, the facts remain essentially the same as when it was first announced.

The two children remain missing and the parents, Lori (Vallow) Daybell, and her new husband, Chad Daybell, refuse to disclose their whereabouts to police. Both have been named persons of interest in the disappearance of the children. Law enforcement is also investigating the deaths of the Daybells’ previous respective spouses, Charles Vallow and Tammy Daybell, though neither Chad nor Lori have been named suspects in those cases.

Written timeline of events
  • April 3, 2018 - Tylee Ryan's father, Joseph Ryan, dies. Death ruled heart attack.
  • December 2018 - Chad Daybell & Lori Vallow make first appearance on Preparing a People podcast.
  • February 2019 - Charles Vallow files for divorce from Lori, claiming she viewed herself as a god preparing for the second coming, and she would kill him if he got in her way.
  • February - April 2019 - Lori disappears for nearly two months, leaving her children with others.
  • June 2019 - Lori's niece demands a divorce from her husband, who says she shares similar beliefs to her aunt.
  • July 11, 2019 - Charles Vallow shot and killed by Lori's brother Alex Cox. Shooting initially ruled self-defense.
  • August 2019 - Lori moves to Rexburg, Idaho with kids
  • September 3, 2019 - Joshua "JJ" Vallow enrolled in school
  • September 23, 2019 - JJ last attended school
  • September 24, 2019 - Lori unenrolls JJ from school, saying she would be homeschooling him.
  • September 2019 - Tylee also seen in September, but it's unclear when and where (she had graduated early)
  • October 2, 2019 - Lori's niece's ex-husband was shot at, missing his head by inches. Shooter was driving a vehicle registered to Charles Vallow.
  • October 9, 2019 - Tammy Daybell, Chad's wife, called 911 and said a masked man shot at her with a paintball gun.
  • October 19, 2019 - Tammy Daybell dies, death is ruled natural
  • October 25, 2019 - Tylee, or someone using her phone, texts a friend
  • Late October / Early November 2019 - Chad Daybell & Lori Vallow get married
  • November 26, 2019 - Welfare check requested for JJ at the request of extended family - police are told he is in Arizona with family, but he is not
  • November 27, 2019 - Police return to serve a search warrant, finding the Daybell's gone
  • December 12, 2019 - Lori's brother, who had shot her ex-husband, dies mysteriously in Arizona
  • December 20, 2019 - Search for JJ and Tylee goes public
  • December 30, 2019 - LE says Lori knows where her children are but will not cooperate
  • January 25, 2020 - Chad & Lori are located in Hawaii, served with a notice that she must produce the children within 5 days
  • January 30, 2020 - Lori fails to produce JJ and Tylee

Great news that it keeps coming.

Nothing so far though seems to hit the Melanies in this case/these cases...

Brandon does deserve justice. He did get a multi million dollar settlement but not over the shooting. I can only wonder why after all that went on Melanie gets to see the kids... The Melanies are not blameless imo... Not by a long shot.

Perhaps needed to get the big dogs, Chad and Lori, but I just hope they don't get some sweet easy deal like another case I recall in Colorado where the one needed to get another was given way too sweet of a deal.

Back to the point though, GOOD. I hope one day Joe gets some justice too. And it keeps coming. And while Alex was a part of this, I don't think his death was accidental either, I don't know that I feel he needs justice, but I do think someone would be charged if the proof was there... It may not be in Joe's and Alex's cases but both are hokey... Imo.
 
Wow. I'm not a happy camper these days when cases I have kept up on throughout even though a struggle then I have no time now to watch any bit of trials or read all of these documents now that they are starting to come to trial or more charges, etc. So I have to say thank you as I had no idea there was even news like this in this case. Lots of food for thought, I hope to get to read them. Glad Justin Lum hit the important points. One day I hope to read all.

I can't read all the docs right now but things that stand out in your posts offhand and that Lum pointed out, Alex's phone and service was paid for by Chad or registered to him. I truly am not surprised but the fact they have evidence of this makes me happy. I think there was a lot of "money" plan here and Lori was to get Charles' life insurance, of course Chad get Tammy's which he did, etc. and I figured in at least some ways Alex was being supported or they all were as part of the "group" and players... I am positive Justin was to be part of that as well... Or his death...

It almost seems in a couple as if the PD thinks Melanie was a groupie of Lori's and innocently influenced by her/them and not part of things... I don't buy that. Sugar would not melt in that woman's mouth but she acts and portrays that it would... Circular talker... I hope more is coming as it has been and/or they just don't have enough to charge her because if they fall for her act then I would wonder about their abilities and instincts... But perhaps they know things we don't and I shouldn't assume but just because she may have been raised and influenced with this family does NOT mean she does not have a brain cell as an adult. She was married, a mother, etc., not a teenager or impressionable young girl any longer with all of this...

The first thing or big one is what Alex said about Tylee being his dark portal and asking Zulema about a tornado at one person or something on that order... That POOR girl... It takes a lot for older adults (like me) to have our blinders ripped off to people we know or things we grow up believing or in life, etc. and I think this young girl was losing her blinders to her mom, her uncle, this group and CHAD imo came in too that labeled her and called her dark...

I go on about the Melanies but in no way do I not think Zulema, maybe in particular, was a large part of all of this... I think Alex went for a reason and always will and I think it may not have been the original plan but things started not going perfectly...

I can't get over the fact that this Apple Dumpling Gang thought they were so smart and were getting away with a lot by different jurisdictions, states, PDs, etc. but left such a trail ONCE something finally triggered the first look or a deeper look...

I wish I had time to read it all in full, the actual document dumps here, etc. Just my quick take, can't keep up with cases lately. This is just my take and opinion on the posts here.

I am impressed that they DO HAVE some big things tied together. Alex and Chad by the phone accounts. Alex and Chad in touch all day on the "Brandon" day... The renting of the storage unit... The dates right before during and after the attempt on Brandon and the activities of all... It ties imo CHAD too into the attempt on Brandon... And definitely Lori. And imo Melanie but they got her out of there and alibied her imo as she would be the first one looked at with a motive...

I saw none of this, haven't been able to stay up on anything so glad you posted it all! I have to trust I will hear it in videos and stay informed through comments here and one day may be able to keep up on all cases I have followed.

I came in because Linda said there was something broadcast in Canada that we can’t all see here in the states. Here’s a copy of her video Going over the material. It’s hard for me to look at all of the new documents here from my phone so I will be looking at them from a PC tomorrow. Wow, just wow.

It sounds interesting. These people are nut jobs. Chad, Lori and they are not the only ones... I'd say it nicer but can't think of anything nicer than that.

With this new info dump, do you all think Alex would have been incompetent or competent? I know we aren't psychiatrists here but he was about as bad as Lori in following Chad. Genetics much? What happened to these people?

The whole family sounds a bit off based on what we have seen since the dumps began.

I think he'd be as competent as Lori in that they know right from wrong as the plotted and covered up crimes. So just on that kind of thought I think they all are but that doesn't mean they aren't a bit "off" to say the least.

This case will be long considered I think about one of the nuttiest ever along with the players in it...

The more they say Alex would be charged if alive, the more likely I think as all have speculated that Chad and Lori will try to pin it on Alex and on each other if necessary as well.

Good Lord, I hope not. I pray they are in a "league of their own". I do worry what all is out there with connection to them though and the remaining uncharged players in this case may well pick up where they left off once they feel the attention if off of them one day... I wonder who will move into Lori's role or who is the second in command of the females... Only 1/2 kidding...

I don’t know? There are certain men who are really stupid when it comes to females that are, shall I describe it as, “sex objects”? If there was some kind of inappropriate sibling sexual energy between them, I don’t know if that would’ve been deemed competent or incompetent? I’d like to know what is deeming Lori incompetent.

You know something we have not heard much about is there has to be some type of money trail too with these people. Who paid for the tinting? Lori? Chad? I doubt it was Alex as it wasn't his vehicle. We know Chad got life insurance and Lori hoped to. She was collecting on the kids before and after I'm sure and probably had child support until they killed Charles... Melanie was in the midst of divorce and it was contentious and she did not have her children but I guess she could have been receiving maintenance...

I think of cults in general--were they pooling money to the leader like to Chad...? I mean look how many apartments were rented in Rexburg... No one seemed to work much if at all... Tinting was paid for, there was a lot of travel, a few moves, a storage unit rented, etc... We know Lori bought rings on Charles' account after he was dead...

I just think logically there is a money trail here too that we don't hear a lot about in the things we are learning...
