Police search for family of little boy found wandering Florida neighborhood

Police in South Florida are asking for the public's help to find the family of a young boy who was found wandering alone in a Broward County neighborhood.

Miramar police said the child, who appears to be 2 to 3 years old, was seen walking near SW 68 Ave and 18th Street on Sunday morning.

Investigators said officers spent hours canvassing the area and knocking on doors, but said no one recognized the toddler.

Officers are asking anyone who recognizes the boy or has any information on who his parents or guardians are to call Miramar police at 954-602-4000.

Police are searching for parents of a Florida toddler who was found wandering around a neighborhood in a soiled diaper and without shoes

A toddler who was found wandering around a Florida neighborhood in a soiled diaper and without shoes over the weekend has still not been claimed by a parent or guardian, police said Monday morning.

Authorities said officers have been going door-to-door in a bid to locate someone who may know the toddler or his parents are.

She told the station that aside from his diaper being soiled, the toddler looked like he was in good health.

In an update Monday morning, police said: 'His family has NOT been located. Officers spent hours canvassing the area, knocking on doors, speaking w/ neighbors.

'No one recognizes the child,' police said.

Footage of the adorable toddler shows him interacting with police officers at the station and pushing around a chair.

The toddler is now in the custody of Child Protective Services as police continue their investigation.

So I wish I could see what she is carrying in each picture. The Cracker Barrel picture, is that a wallet? She seems to be carrying things when running from the Lexus. In the picture with Cam at the gas station the night before he was found, she appears to be waiting. Is she waiting for someone with them or waiting in line? She seems to have no wallet or anything...

It appears she had somewhere to shower and change clothing. And in the picture with Kam she is CLEARLY not kidnapped at 10 something the night before the child was found. At least not under physical hold by anyone in the gas station AND she has her child with.

We also know this was not the last sighting of her as they say the last sighting was at Walmart? They still said that yesterday. We also see pictures of her without Kam prior... And then back with Kam that night in a dress after being in shorts and a tank around 3 at the Lexus... I wonder what the reason is for holding back all of the other pictures...

Strange... And I would like to know if she hopped in and out of the Lexus at 3... Or did she hop out and then back in? Which way was it? And where is Kam? In the car with someone else? With a sitter?

From further reading, I gather the Shannon guy had a Lexus, I did not know that so assuming it is his... 10 something p.m. that night at the gas station, was she going to go sleep in her truck with Kam after...? And something happened? It is a no brainer they have video of how she came to be at the gas station at 10 something, whether by car, walking, dropped off...

Before arriving in South Florida, Cavett had been drifting around in a tiny North Georgia town of some 3,000 people called Dawsonville. She has also spent time in Jasper, Alabama, where much of her family is.

“She jumps from county to county,” said Danny Lee West, who would like to step up to care for Kamdyn.

He said she asked him to wire her $50 on July 23, because she said Kamdyn needed to go to the dentist. West said he wired $60 to the Dawsonville Walmart. From the Walmart, Cavett recorded Kamdyn and shared the video. That video of Kamdyn being pushed in the cart is now circulating widely on social media.

The following day West said he asked Cavett how the dentist appointment went. He said she told him it could have been better. He said she sent a photo of Kamdyn to him with a note that said, “He looks just like you.”

Cavett was in Georgia, spending some time with her uncle, according to her mom. Cavett mentioned to her uncle in passing that she was thinking of going to Florida but that the uncle thought nothing of it, because Cavett was 21 and had no job or any real money to speak of, Cavett’s mom, Tina Kirby, told the “Dr. Phil” show, which recently aired a piece about the case.

Cavett’s family acknowledged Cavett had a history with drugs. Kirby said it was apparent her daughter had been selling items on the Facebook Marketplace before heading to Florida.

Cavett wasn’t known to have money. West, who wired her the $60, now questions if she even took Kamdyn to the dentist with the money, and Cavett’s uncle gave her $40 just days before she and her little boy hopped into an old extended cab Chevrolet truck and pushed their way south from North Georgia. A sign on the truck’s window read, “Baby on Board!”

On July 24, surveillance video put her at a Cracker Barrel in Vero Beach.

On July 25, she arrived with her son in South Florida. For two days, she would spend time in the areas of Hollywood, Miramar and Fort Lauderdale, the FBI said.

In her short time in South Florida, Cavett traveled rather extensively in the greater Fort Lauderdale area, according to GPS that tracked her phone. Assuming Cavett was with her phone, she likely traveled up State Road A1A along the beach in Fort Lauderdale and spent time in Miramar and Hollywood.

On July 26, West said he sent Cavett a text asking if he could come see Kamdyn. “She didn’t respond,” he said.

That was the day Kamdyn was found alone in the parking lot.

A man using the name Shannon Ryan posted a 51-minute video on YouTube, saying he saw Cavett get into a vehicle that pulled away from the RaceTrac. He claims to have taken Cavett in about a year ago when he was living in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Ryan said in the video that he was near the truck Cavett drove down from Georgia, when police rolled up to the Walmart and found the abandoned vehicle. He said police questioned him but let him go, adding that he did nothing wrong. A source confirmed the man was questioned, but police won’t comment about him.

The FBI said they’ve received many tips about the case, but haven’t discussed them publicly. “We believe some people who are familiar with the circumstances surrounding Leila’s disappearance remain in our community, while some have left the area,” Special Agent in Charge George Piro said.

This case! I read the entire article, I would say it is a good one and covers a lot. I don't know if I have ever been at such a loss of what to think. On the surface, I would suspect the man and suspect she is gone but on the other hand, what was she doing, what was her intent and the pictures we have seen she is safe and in some does not seem to have her son with her. Changes of clothing, also was in Vero Beach before getting further down south.

Compilation of her photos with various hairstyles. View attachment 5929
It has crossed my mind that her different outfits, hair and locations perhaps she hoped to not be noticed or seen or recognized on various video or by people? Then I think that is too out there and why would she do that..?

And is it just me or does that picture of the dress and sandals not seem to fit her compared to other pictures we have seen over time? It does not seem her style.

Eh.. I think it fits her style..the blue top/dress in the upper right is pretty flashy also. I just think it's just the curly vs. straight hair that changes her appearance so much.

Yeah, I can't quite decide. It almost looks like it has shoulder pads and that does not seem like her thing... However, it could be just the sleeves and the way it looks. It still is many changes of clothes for a short period of time without a place to stay or shower...

And she stayed somewhere Friday night for sure...? Seen at the Cracker Barrel in Vero Beach which is still a ways from her destination... And if SR is telling the truth, they did not connect until Saturday. I doubt she had $$ for a motel or if she did have enough $$ that she would have used them or a motel, so my thought is she did know or stay with someone in Florida...? That night on the way down...?

Frustrating case.

What other outfits was she wearing that day? Being a Florida resident, I could say one reason to change clothes so many times in a day is because it gets so hot. This Florida heat is killer! Along with the humidity, it will have you sweating bullets just walking out to your car sometimes. So putting on lighter clothes or changing out of sweaty clothes could be an explanation..
Eta- Not sure if her truck had a/c, but if not
that's dreadful in Florida.

That part I get. I have been to Florida and on other tropical trips. Yes, I can change three to four times a day. I am more looking at where and how, including likely showering, and of course there is the fact in a couple of photos, she had clearly changed but Kam's clothes were the same.

I am looking more at what it means. Probably means she packed a few things at least for herself. So some preparation. It means somewhere to change, it can be done in a vehicle, etc. but she seems clean as does he so again, guessing perhaps she stayed somewhere.

Heck her dress could even have been put on over a dry bathing suit, who knows...

The only other thing I would say is each change is a very different outfit. I change on trips but it is often one pair of shorts and a tank for another pair and a tank. Maybe to a suit. And then maybe to a skirt or dress for dinner. Which then again, leads me to was she with someone, what was the plan, etc.

So, just uselessly trying to armchair detective and figure it out... :)

Found only one other article from the Sun Sentinel but couldn't read it. Probably a duplicate anyhow. Boy is our media slow and not what they used to be.

He is NOW charged with kidnapping as well. I wonder if that means of Leila, of Kamdyn or of both... Court appearance today it sounds like...

So per the final page it is the kidnapping of Kamdyn. Leila's truck had an Ohio plate. It surprises me though that his Lexus also has an Ohio plate. She had been in Ohio I know and doesn't her dad live there if i recall correctly?

I really need to put this down on paper in front of me all the dates in the documents along with the picture times we have, etc.

Unless I missed it, it is unclear when or if Leila went missing or was even along when Kamdyn was dumped off. It sounds like it was just Ryan.

So if she was seen at 10:30 ish at RaceTrak if I recall, what happened to her between then and when he dumped Kamdyn the next morning...? All hints of garbage bags, duct tape and more had me feeling she was deceased but upon seeing the chlorofoam search, I am not so sure...

I also am unsure why if he was going to do something to her he waited...? He did bring her back to town from the beach and all or so it seems... And doing so much in front of cameras...?

I am glad they have him under arrest but wonder if they will ever find her. We know they have far more than is shared but still no hint of recovery of her...
