ONGOING CRIME BREAKING NEWS!

Starting in January 2020, this thread is about the news as it breaks!

Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

IMO- stay in jail

I know her mom. She was a vet at the spay/neuter clinic we help out. Such a sad time. She tried so hard to get her daughter over this, but I guess the scars were just too deep.
I don't know how I missed these notifications on this thread, but I just now saw you and @kdg411 posts on it. I don't recall if I posted it but there was a friend who after this happened remarked on her having a stalker and trying to do something about it, and her fear and how it was affecting her.

Note that these victims did not wait 15+ years to press charges unlike the Masterson case. Just my thoughts. ;)
A bit off topic in re: this alleged offender, but when I was about 9 or 10, Bill Cosby was doing a stand up comedy show here in town. My parents owned the nicest motel at the time, so celebrities scheduled press conferences there, or stayed the night. My stepmother asked Cosby's agent (or whoever) if us kids could come into the conference room, shake his hand, get an autograph, and leave (we were NEVER allowed to try to "hang out" with celebrities, or any guests for that matter). She got the okay. This was before the Cosby show- we had all of his comedy records and adored him. The minute I entered the room, I was overcome with a sense of weirdness and ugliness. He was loudly complaining about how much he "hated signing autographs", and generally acting like a d-bag. It broke my heart, but it also left me feeling somehow dirty. The minute I got home, I tore up his autographed photo and threw it in the trash.
When the rape allegations started surfacing, I wasn't a bit surprised. He was a nasty, controlling, narcissistic piece of work. And, for the record, if his management had called my stepmother and said Cosby wasn't up to meeting anyone, that would have been the end of it. Just saying...

I have never had much doubt about him either just because the nastiness, ego and rape allegations have surfaced here and there and off and on for decades... Seems to be enough smoke in his case to believe that where there is smoke, there is fire... That is interesting to hear that you personally saw him and felt that way.

Wow, first dismissed as a cardiac event--the Vallow case could use some help doing this or double checking if not too late... Joseph Ryan, Tammy Daybell, Alex Cox...

Tragic and all sorts of crazy. Gated community. Perp seemed not to know family. Crashed through gates. Did all of this. Two deaths, grandma critical, more... Perp drinks bleach... Sometimes I think of going somewhere warm and then I think I will just stay put where we have our not fancy residences and where all of these crazy news headlines seem like they come from another planet...

Hate Crime?. I don't see a motive. Maybe that's it.
