Bernard Madoff says he is dying and is asking a judge for compassionate release from prison, where he is serving 150 years for orchestrating the largest Ponzi scheme in history, according to a Wednesday federal court filing.

Madoff, 81, has terminal kidney failure and a life expectancy of less than 18 months. When the court sentenced him, “it was clear that Madoff’s 150-year prison sentence was symbolic for three reasons: retribution, deterrence, and for the victims,” the court filing states. “This Court must now consider whether keeping Madoff incarcerated … is truly in furtherance of statutory sentencing goals and our society’s value and understanding of compassion.”

Madoff said in the request for compassionate release that he “does not dispute the severity of his crimes.”

I don't know all the details but it seems like a joke of a sentence to me. I am truly sick of seeing people who oh well the child is already dead, the wife is already murdered and dead why ruin her or his life (the perp)... Give them a chance... It disgusts me to no end... Yet send some else away for something like theft or drugs for 20 years or more... Not that that may not be just in some cases but what is it with MURDERERS... And what seems like something close to SYMPATHY.

No kidding right??? If he gets back into general pop he will probably have access to media, phone and orange hair dye again.... It ain't right. Scott Peterson Death Sentence Overturned.

ETA: That link is for here. I thought it would show. Fran started a thread on it. That's where I first saw the news about this rotten arse and the overturning of the sentence.

Wow. Successful ending though, child safe and the couple under arrest. I wonder what possessed them to do that or what their motive is--it isn't clear if they had any connection to the mother or child from what I can tell.

Hmm. I guess he can try. That is quite a range of various charges. Doesn't look like he plans on pleading guilty does it...
