Got my Masters degree from here. :(

Killer who stabbed 4 Idaho students to death still at large

The killer — or killers — who stabbed four University of Idaho students to death remained at large Tuesday, prompting many students to leave the campus in the idyllic small town despite police assurances that there was no imminent risk to the community.

So many students had left the scenic tree-lined campus in Moscow, Idaho, by Tuesday that university officials said a candlelight vigil scheduled for the next day would instead be held after the Thanksgiving break.

The students, all close friends, were found dead in an off-campus rental home around noon on Sunday, and officials said they likely were killed several hours earlier. Latah County Coroner Cathy Mabbutt told the Spokane, Washington-based television station KXLY that her preliminary investigation showed the students were stabbed to death. There is no indication that substance use was involved in the deaths, Mabbutt said.

The father said it in the interview with Brian Entin (sp?). I saw it. What does it mean, though? It could mean that she was fighting harder than Maddie because Maddie was the first one attacked. Also, I never know when the information is going to change, so I'm not hanging my hat on anything anymore.
Oh I agree. I thought of two that maybe she had a bit more warning than Maddie or fought harder. However, it does fit with what they hinted at at the outset but have constantly went back and forth on and tried to take back--that she was the target.

But yes, can't hang one's hat on anything with these investigators, etc. If we feel that way, I can't imagine how it tears the parents apart trying to decipher what means what and constantly having changing stories.

I heard also he said (dad) that they signed some waiver over some mail or piece of mail or something. This I don't understand at all. All of these victims were adults. What right over an adult would a parent have regarding the adult child's mail that they could sign off on it? Maybe if she was receiving mail at home? Makes no sense to me that tidbit.
All of their belongings would become their “estate”. Which would now belong to their parents. Perhaps it wasn’t something that was sitting at the home at the time but something that had arrived since. Or maybe they’re just covering all legal bases just in case. Just because a person is deceased doesn’t mean you can now open any mail addressed to them.

Well Kaylee’s dad is spreading rumors right and left on his publicity world tour.

I feel for him but he needs to stop. And I'll stop there because FOUR young adults were murdered. Not just one or two.

More from Moscow PD on Kaylee’s dog Murphy: During the search of the home, a dog was found in a room where the crimes had not been committed. Officers did not find any evidence on the dog and there was no indication the animal had entered the crime scene.

See what I mean? I thought I read a report that the dog was outside when they arrived? Sheesh.

Latest Info | Moscow PD says U of I murder victim's stalker claims stem from encounter at business

In their latest update, police revealed information about an encounter Kaylee Goncalves, one of the four victims, had at a local business in mid-October. Police said this encounter may be related to references Kaylee made to friends and family about having a stalker.

According to investigators, two men were seen inside a local business in mid-October. The two men parted ways and one man appeared to follow Kaylee inside the business and outside as she walked to her car. Police said the man turned away and did not appear to make any contact with her.

Detectives contacted both men and learned they were "attempting to meet women at the business." Detectives believe this was an isolated incident and not an ongoing pattern of stalking.

Police said there is no evidence to suggest the two men were involved in the murders.

Moscow Police also released the following information:
  • Detectives continue investigating what occurred from approximately 9 p.m. on November 12th to 1:45 a.m. on November 13th, when Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle were believed to be at the Sigma Chi house on the University of Idaho Campus at 735 Nez Perce Drive. Any interactions, contacts, direction and method of travel, or anything abnormal could add context to what occurred.
  • Detectives continue processing and working through more than 2,645 emailed tips, 2,770 phone tips, and 1,084 digital media submissions. We believe someone has information that will add context to the picture investigators are creating of what occurred that evening. Our focus is the investigation, not the activities. Your information, whether you believe it is significant or not, might be one of the puzzle pieces that help solve these murders.
  • Investigators continue looking into information about Kaylee having a stalker. Information about a potential stalker or unusual occurrences should go through the Tip Line.
  • There have been numerous requests about the dog found at the residence on the morning of November 13th. Arriving officers entered the residence and found the deceased victims. During the search of the home, a dog was found in a room where the crimes had not been committed. Officers did not find any evidence on the dog and there was no indication the animal had entered the crime scene. The dog was taken to Animal Services and released to a responsible person. While the dog was in the house when officers arrived, it has not been determined where the dog was physically located when the murders took place.

Did they really say big news? Apparently their "big news" was that they still need information. :sigh:
I don't consider the dog info big news. Or the "stalker" that now looks like it was actually just one creepy encounter with a guy. Which, don't get me wrong, can definitely be unsettling. But it's not a stalker. I guess that could be "big news" - that they've finally figured out after 3 weeks that she didn't have a stalker.

Also, Moscow PD coming out and saying that they DIDN'T release additional info to the families, so whatever the families are saying is not confirmed. So, yeah. Whether anyone believes that or not is another thing. But I believe they certainly won't be releasing anything further to the families.

Still talking. More info.

I believe it's important to have someone in a case that families can talk to, even if it's just to say things are moving along or to listen to what they have to say. That's how it's done around here, from what victims have told me. They don't have to give details, just give a bit of themselves to show everyone is working together to find the killer.

I'm pretty sure they have a contact. I'm thinking it's just not good enough for Kaylee’s dad.

Still haven't been able to confirm Xana and Ethan's whereabouts from after they apparently left the party around 9.
I wonder, did anyone SEE them leaving at 9? Or can just no one CONFIRM that they saw them after 9?
They need to be more clear about this. We don't care if you were participating in underage drinking, drug use, etc. This is a murder investigation!

Does anyone have a suspect in their head? I'm NOT asking for names, because everyone that has been named has been essentially cleared as "not a suspect" at this time. And we know from other cases there's a real good chance it's someone we're not even aware of yet. Just curious what everyone is thinking at the moment. Someone already named that we know about? Or someone entirely off our radar right now (though hopefully / not necessarily off LE radar)?

It could have been a random attack if the stories of the knife wielder are true.
