Police seem to be no closer to finding 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan than they were when this story began months ago.

Since that time, the story has gained international attention as it’s taken twists and turns involving a purported cult, dead spouses, delusions of divinity and preparing for the end of the world. Despite all the angles, and the ever-growing number of people related to the case, the facts remain essentially the same as when it was first announced.

The two children remain missing and the parents, Lori (Vallow) Daybell, and her new husband, Chad Daybell, refuse to disclose their whereabouts to police. Both have been named persons of interest in the disappearance of the children. Law enforcement is also investigating the deaths of the Daybells’ previous respective spouses, Charles Vallow and Tammy Daybell, though neither Chad nor Lori have been named suspects in those cases.

Written timeline of events
  • April 3, 2018 - Tylee Ryan's father, Joseph Ryan, dies. Death ruled heart attack.
  • December 2018 - Chad Daybell & Lori Vallow make first appearance on Preparing a People podcast.
  • February 2019 - Charles Vallow files for divorce from Lori, claiming she viewed herself as a god preparing for the second coming, and she would kill him if he got in her way.
  • February - April 2019 - Lori disappears for nearly two months, leaving her children with others.
  • June 2019 - Lori's niece demands a divorce from her husband, who says she shares similar beliefs to her aunt.
  • July 11, 2019 - Charles Vallow shot and killed by Lori's brother Alex Cox. Shooting initially ruled self-defense.
  • August 2019 - Lori moves to Rexburg, Idaho with kids
  • September 3, 2019 - Joshua "JJ" Vallow enrolled in school
  • September 23, 2019 - JJ last attended school
  • September 24, 2019 - Lori unenrolls JJ from school, saying she would be homeschooling him.
  • September 2019 - Tylee also seen in September, but it's unclear when and where (she had graduated early)
  • October 2, 2019 - Lori's niece's ex-husband was shot at, missing his head by inches. Shooter was driving a vehicle registered to Charles Vallow.
  • October 9, 2019 - Tammy Daybell, Chad's wife, called 911 and said a masked man shot at her with a paintball gun.
  • October 19, 2019 - Tammy Daybell dies, death is ruled natural
  • October 25, 2019 - Tylee, or someone using her phone, texts a friend
  • Late October / Early November 2019 - Chad Daybell & Lori Vallow get married
  • November 26, 2019 - Welfare check requested for JJ at the request of extended family - police are told he is in Arizona with family, but he is not
  • November 27, 2019 - Police return to serve a search warrant, finding the Daybell's gone
  • December 12, 2019 - Lori's brother, who had shot her ex-husband, dies mysteriously in Arizona
  • December 20, 2019 - Search for JJ and Tylee goes public
  • December 30, 2019 - LE says Lori knows where her children are but will not cooperate
  • January 25, 2020 - Chad & Lori are located in Hawaii, served with a notice that she must produce the children within 5 days
  • January 30, 2020 - Lori fails to produce JJ and Tylee

Yeah that thought crossed my mind too but Im really not sure a judge can deny that request if she's mentally stable, and they've now withdrawn their request for an eval... So not sure...

New attorneys so more slow down to get up to speed.

She must have complained about the first ones then unless they were the ones who wanted off...

They withdrew the evaluation request so they can get up to speed. I didn't know this, but apparently the defense can attach evidence for the evaluation. They had tons of stuff dumped on them. They need time to go through it all and pick what they want to use.

I missed the dropping of the eval request when I read it when I was heading off to work, never picked up on it even though the main post here, I just didn't catch it, that they were withdrwaing it. Tonight got home late and came to this thread first, before Delphi lol, or would never have seen this one tonight.

I saw in the tweet/post itself here and picked up on they were dropping the eval, went into Tweet/link and yes, they want to go through to see what they want to provide for records, info, etc. and need time.

So yes, did when fresher and early on, pick up on that.

I didn't know either they could do that but it makes sense. But they can pick and choose?? Man. I think most of us are up a BIT more on legal stuff than others out in the world, but did not know that. In fact, I'd almost think if you want to open that door, it would be all provided or have to be, or nothing and don't open it. And actualy do know a teeny bit, and enough to think that''s how it works, but maybe not always.... Also different state...

Will she let them this time, not that it appears she is getting her way with representing self, but she may well have agreed to trying new attys., hard to say...

She never wanted the mental thing used in the last one and it wasn't...Who knows, maybe that's the issue... Last attys filed for eval and she doesn't want that... So wanted to represent self. Nope, but new ones given and they pull the eval back and that's what she wants so giving it a chance....

Who knows with her...

It's very difficult imo for most of us, you have your opinions, I have mine but to talk this mental stuff. We are not psychs or doctors. Lori imo is sane versus most intepretations of what true insanity is. I mean man, Colby knows but doesn't know, imo and still I think thinks answers will come, well not all of the time, I mean he SEES it, the manipulation, that she was selfish, knew exactly what she was doing, why, etc...

So in the last trial she insisted and stuck to speedy trial although her hospitalizations stopped the clock.

In this one she wanted same if I recall correctly, and I'm just guessing here, but her first attys went against that and told judge they simply needed a lot more time than that.. I think I'm getting this right. Judge denied her speedy trial right, re her first attys getting up to speed. Didn't fly fo there so she then wants to represent self, denied, and has new attorneys who also waylaid the mental health eval. Man it makes sense to me but now I am floundering.

Judge maybe gave her no say again and chose for her.

But what she tried in the first isn't flying here I guess is what I'd say...

A bit tired and overdone. Are you seeing it similar at all or am I making any sense?

The DP also ended up off the table in the last one due to the speedy trial thing all I think this one in AZ is not charged with DP, not even sure AZ has it thinking not.

But all have rights to speedy trial and she got denied here.... When Delph is over if time, I'd like to look into this. I'm not even sure the judge can deny her representing herself or wanting to unless mentally incompetent, unfit, etc..
 
watched more than my fill of delphi, had no time to share what I thinkg pretty interesting, Or discuss biut was ttired and done and did onoe last refresh and Colby and Kelsie'[s first boy was born today.

Happy for them. Part of me feels his news belongs anywhere but this thread about the evil of Chad and Lori, but I guess it also does.; Overcomng...

Well psheesh I can see why. Ditto. I got through a good portion of this article and just quit and couldn't continue. Nothing is making a bit of sense. I was lining up what to say that doesn't add up or make sense but it just continued on getting worse and I just can't even...

One thing, first of I was going to say is they said she was incompetent to stand trial in ID at one time. That is NOT how I remember it and apparently the judge believes this and bought it from was it the former D attorneys? What was always said was she was incompetent to aid in her defense. I think I recall this correctly and well until restored. Maybe that doesn't seem like a big difference but it is to me, and I don't know AZ law versus ID either for that matter and most differ...

And somewhere in this mix we find out two state doctors have done evals and are reading with their findings and is this what spurred the first D wanting their own? OR did the state doctors do such based on the request for an eval from the D? Seems to me in first states, first it is state doctor's that do one before it can go further into another one by the D if I recall correctly.

The trial got delayed from February (not that far off) was one effect this had immediately early on.

I'm also sure Lori is telling them she doesn't want them, telling them (the new D) she is competent to stand trial and they are likely doing her bidding there. She may be had a fit when the old D did not do as she wanted, speedy trial, etc...

There's more but as you said, it is so flipping confusing and even what I said here is. Now the P says they wanted it, they asked for it, and it is not being called off. or they'd motion or some such. And the judge wants more info from ID.

This is the best I can put the messed up convoluted sh*t I just read a big part of but not all before I gave up. I had better things to say before going further into the article but they'ave all vanished now.

I will give up trying to follow it but will say imo Lori would never accept any attorney not doing as SHE WANTED. Look how hamstrung she had Archibald at her last trial, he had no defense because she wouldn't let him use any and she in no way would allow the mental hints, etc. She also wanted speedy trial and they maintained that throughout which got the DP thrown off the table in the end over it.

The other thing I will say is she has wanted the limelight and to be special her entire life and her wanting to represent herself does not surprise me one bit, I'm only surprised she did not try to do so in the last one, however, she still did not want to affect Chad's chances I'm sure at that point...

I'm not sure if I am going to be able to come back and finish that article when less overwhelmed by "my" full work week I just finished and trying to keep up on Delphi, etc., especially when it makes no sense overall. I'm not even blaming the reporters, the attorneys, judge and circumstanes are not making sense to me either. Convoluted and probably was confusing to the reportes as well but they sure did not clarify it.

I guess I will wait for it to sort itself out to where it is more clear or for someone who can make sense of it to explain it all. Most atty. YTers are on Delphi, well not all, but one of them would maybe be good to understand this sh*t.

My other guess is the state doctors found her competent...? OR the state doesn't want all this messing around to cause tons of further delays as it has already caused. She is already going through attorneys and wanting to represent herself and they probably know they are in for a lot of this...

the best I can do right now but honestly just as confused.
 
For anyone interested, upcoming tonight.

I suspect the name is going to honor JJ and Tylee, or perhaps JJ and Charles somehow. It's their first boy. He has not hinted in any way but it would make sense to me, just an educated guess. Something on that order.

Interesting. Judge Gull could take a lesson from this and this is about her mental health too isn't it although it sounds like sensitive parts will not be part of what is recorded. Things don't have to be live to keep your public, your paycheck payers, informed and can be distributed later OR even when all things are released after a trial even. All sorts of options exist.

So is a superior court commissioner an appeals court or is the uust the overseer of the district/county courts? I take it this is not the judge on the case, pretty sure not, name doesn't sound right but I forget the judge's name.

Just ran into another in a case I realize hs not come up for me in awhile. Many of them are on X, YT, FB, etc...

I need to learn to keep a list and just search for who I follow because I usually just look for who I know that is thrown at me as possibles to watch. Even though I subscribe, they don't come up.
Also, Justin has this one and I don't search for him either but think I was following and he doesn't come up. Not sure if he has a YT channel though, I know he HAS been on it in the past.

And that's where I mostly go. Don't do Instagram etc. The ones that hit all the platforms are smart I'd say because most of us have our ones. FB I've been off of for some years.

I doubt this hearing will tell us a lot but it is good they are doing it to be shown after. It sounded like most of the confidential stuff will not be a part of the public recorded hearing.

This is sounding like a bit of a clusterf**k already. Lori wanting to represent self, change attorneys, wanted a speedy trial, denied and former attys (for her) said no needed time, she basically "fired" them or tried to and did accomplish such and the P is saying they asked for a whatever it is not Chapter 11 but some thing that regards mental competency and now they want to drop it but we say no, they wanted it, it was done and we say such should happen.

I think even though ti sounds confusing I have it about right. A clusterf**k. Probably with Lori at the root of a lot of it.

I'm just talking the case not to your post.

Since they are both convicted and in prison for life, I'm not overly concerned here. I don't want to be taken wrong, CHARLES deserves justice, so I am concerned there. But if this one takes forever well, even Charles' family knows the two are put away for life or beyond and Chad with the DP. It doesn't make up to his family that it isn't justice for his murder solely, and justice for him specifically BUT they at least are not walking the streets and are not going to be walking the streets.

I'm still not sure why the AZ judge talks about records from ID re Lori. And I'd say get up to speed judge. Of course we can only know or comment on what news, etc. tells us.

She was never found incompetent as I recall it, she simply couldn't aid in her own defense until restored to competency to do so. It gets pretty confusing and there was never a mental insanity defense. I'ts like Delphi, it is attempted to be used without wanting to actually go there.... Because if they do it will open the door to records and things they don't want opened...

Probably not making any sense. But Lori NEVER wants to be seen as mentally ill. That's clear and ever present. And fo rme, I don't see her as such. Never will most likely. She is calculated and cunning.

But in the end, it doesn't matter imo. True insanity is rare or the old standard, and a good one imo,, of not knowing right from wrong. Oh she did!

Okay,. There is always a transition post from work week to trying to change modes and I guess this is the wandering one it happened with here.

so my comment is without watching but a minute, that I'm no surprised as she has always disdtained the mental illness thing.

clearly there is sh*t going on here between her, her attorneys, and now new attorneys, etc. and wanting to represent self., now not and denied, etc.

Okay this is actually pretty interesting... Lori should be there and has also refused to speak to mental health experts etc., etc. It also SOUNDS like her attys advised her not to per what is said which sounds like is wrong advice. I am going to do a two time watch of this just to be clear. I was not paying 100 percent attn since I didn't expect it to be much of interest... I have caught 75 per percent...
 
Yep needed a rewatch to be sure of some things. From her own attys from their "understanding" she refused to appear. More to come. I needed also to be sure who was who after the first watch where I wasn't paying total attn.
